David Bowie’s daughter Lexi Jones shares heartbreaking home videos from her childhood with late pop star as she writes poem about fading memories and ‘remembering his laugh’

The daughter of pioneering singer David Bowie has shared personal home videos of the late pop icon, ten years after his death to cancer.

Bowie passed away at the New York City apartment he shared with supermodel wife Iman and their daughter Alexandria ‘Lexi’ Jones on January 8 2016, following a private battle with liver cancer.

The enigmatic singer, 69 at the time of his death, had been diagnosed with the disease 18 months earlier. His twenty sixth and final album, Black Star, was released on the day he died.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Bowie’s bereaved daughter – his only child with Iman – shared an introspective video in which she attempts to recapture fading childhood memories of her father.

Seated at a writing desk, Lexi, 25, struggles to record her memories in the blank pages of a journal after beginning a written sentence with the words ‘He was.’

Addressing the viewer with an internal monologue, she says: ‘He was. I start there because it feels like the right beginning, but the sentence never seems to go anywhere.

‘I sit here trying to remember clearly, like if I close my eyes long enough the picture will come back the way it was. But memory doesn’t work like that.

‘I remember movement more than anything, someone standing ahead of me, the sound of a voice before I even realise where it’s coming from,  the feeling that if I call out, they’ll turn around, and they do.

‘But something about it is always wrong. The moment never finishes the way it should, like a door that opens but never quite does.’

The monologue is interspersed with shaky home video footage, including childhood footage of herself dressed a Dorothy from the Wizard Of Oz while Bowie praises her off-camera, and never-before-seen clips of her father in bed.

‘It’s strange what stays and what disappears,’ she adds. ‘I can remember the way a room felt, the way laughter sounded from down the hall, the way someone walked away from me. But when I try to see him standing right in front of me, the memory slips somewhere else.

‘Maybe that’s just what time does, it doesn’t take everything, just the details, just the sharp edges, just the parts we thought would stay forever.

‘What remains is softer – fragments, moments. A feeling that someone existed before you for a while, that you shared the same rooms, the same days, the same small pieces of life.

‘So maybe finishing a sentence isn’t the point, maybe it was never meant to be finished. Maybe the truth is just this. He was. And for a long time, that was enough.’

Lexi, a New York based artist, recently insisted she does ‘not blame her family’ for ‘forcibly’ removing from her home and sending her to multiple treatment centres, leading her to miss her father’s final days.

Taking to Instagram in February, she said she held no resentment towards her loved ones and understood that they were trying their best to help her through something that ‘none of them fully understood at the time’.

‘My story was never meant to place blame on my parents,’ she wrote. ‘I love my parents deeply and I don’t hold resentment towards them.

‘They were trying to help a child who was struggling in ways none of us fully understood at the time. I never shared this to create a narrative of family conflict’.

‘What I as trying to talk about was the experience of being a young person inside the teenage treatment system and how it feels while it is happening. Those feelings can exist at the same time as love for the people who were trying to help you. Both things can be true’.

‘I shared my experience because many people who have been through similar programs carry confusion and silence around it. Hearing from others who related has already shown me the messaged reached who it was meant to reach’.

She went on: ‘I’m not asking anyone to speculate about my family or assign fault to anyone in my life. My intention is conversation and understanding about a system, not judgement of individuals’.

Before adding: ‘I spoke about something that shaped me in hopes someone else might feel less alone in theirs’.

Lexi previously described how she was just 14 when two men ‘well over six feet tall’ came to take her to a treatment facility.

She also recalled her father writing her a heartfelt letter when revealing the decision to send her to the facility, which read: ‘I’m sorry we have to do this.’

Looking back on her childhood she said: ‘Adults would talk to me differently than they would talk to other kids. Some were not interested in me as a person at all, and only as a proximity to something else.’

She added that she felt like she ‘existed as an idea’ rather than a real person, with constant projections and expectations from others.

She continued: ‘Something hit me pretty young before I was around ten. I started seeing a therapist because my teachers noticed something was off, and so did my parents. That was around the time I had my first anxiety attack.

‘I started to feel depressed. I was failing school. I had learning disabilities, that made everything feel harder, and I hated the way I looked. I developed bulimia when I was 12. I started self-harming when I was eleven.

‘I felt stupid, incompetent, unworthy, useless, unloveable, and having successful parents only made it worse. It felt like I would never live up to them. I couldn’t understand how I came from people that were thriving in every single direction while I was failing at everything.’

Following her father’s diagnosis and turning to drink and drugs to cope, she said:  ‘Everyone around me was experimenting. But for me, it wasn’t about fun. I wasn’t experimenting, I was escaping.

‘When the party ended for everybody else, I kept going, and I drank and got high alone. I became someone who lashed out. I was cruel to people who didn’t treat me the way I wanted to be treated. I was begging to be respected by becoming something people feared, or at least noticed.’

Eventually, she said, an intervention occurred that was both unexpected and deeply traumatising.

She said: ‘My dad read a letter he had written. I don’t really remember what it said, but I do remember the last line and it said, “I’m sorry we have to do this”.

‘Then two men came through the door, and they were both well over six feet tall. They told me I could do this the easy way or the hard way. I chose the hard way. I resisted. I screamed. I held onto the table leg.

‘They grabbed me, they put their hands on me, they pulled me away from everything I knew and I was screaming bloody murder. I was screaming for someone to help me, but no one did…

‘I felt stripped of any right to stay in my own life. They got me back into a black SUV and shoved me inside. By the time the door shut, my parents were already gone. I was alone. I was in a car with two strange men that wouldn’t tell me where we were going and I just sat there completely horrified and silent.’

Lexi said she spent 91 days at a ‘wilderness therapy’ programme living outdoors in winter conditions with no privacy, showering once a week, and being forced to count out loud every time she used a makeshift bathroom so staff could monitor her.

Wilderness therapy, also known as outdoor behavioural healthcare, is a highly controversial style of mental health treatment developed in the US for adolescents and young adults.

It combines intensive outdoor activities with counselling to purportedly address behavioural, emotional, and substance abuse issues.

Lexi acknowledged that her experiences have shaped who she is today, making her ’emotionally intelligent, introspective, not afraid to reflect on some of the harder things’.

She added: ‘I was forced to look inward before I even had a chance to look outward. I had to understand emotions before I understood algebra. I had to become fluent in the language of healing before I even knew who I was.’

Jesy Nelson celebrates ‘superhuman’ mums on her first Mother’s Day – amid her twins’ heartbreaking health battle

Jesy Nelson celebrated ‘superhuman’ mums on her first Mother’s Day on Sunday – amid her twins’ heartbreaking health battle.

The Little Mix star, 34, welcomed her daughters prematurely in May 2025 with her ex-fiancé, Zion Foster.

But last month, she revealed the devastating news that both babies had been diagnosed with genetic neuromuscular disease, Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1).

The condition weakens the muscles by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, and Type 1 is the most common and severe form, with life expectancy estimated at less than two years without medical intervention.

On Sunday she shared snaps from a recent campaign shoot with families and their children with various health difficulties and disabilities.

She penned in the caption of her post: ‘Happy Mother’s Day to all the super human amazing mummas out there.

‘For anyone who finds today difficult, my heart goes out you. I had the chance to sit down with some incredible mums and families to celebrate women and the true powerhouses they are.

‘It was so incredibly special hearing their stories and learning about their amazing children who have had to overcome so much in their life. I cannot wait to share with you all their inspiring stories.’

In another post, she gave a special nod to all those who are not able to share the day with their mothers.

Jesy recently candidly opened up on her babies’ heartbreaking diagnosis in her documentary Life After Little Mix, and often shares updates about their health battle on Instagram.

The heartwarming post comes after Jesy recently revealed that she burst into tears when she saw the girls’ special feeding chairs.

As SMA1 causes progressive muscle weakness and wasting, Ocean and Story require feeding tubes due to severe swallowing, sucking and breathing difficulties, and need specially designed chairs to give them extra postural support.

After the two chairs arrived, the sight brought their mother to tears, as she explained it was ‘another reminder of another obstacle we have to tackle’ amid their health battle.

Alongside a snap of the chair, she penned: ‘So the girls need special feeding chairs that came yesterday and I couldn’t help but burst into tears yesterday when I saw them.

‘It just made me feel so sad as it’s just another reminder of another obstacle we have to tackle. Do any other SMA mummies feel this way?’

As well as caring for her babies, Jesy is currently hard at work campaigning for the NHS to expand the standard heel prick test to check for SMA1.

She has said that, had her twins had the test – which costs around £1 – and been diagnosed and started treatment earlier, their legs could have been saved.

And the star has already succeeded in getting a petition to reach over 100,000 signatures, calling for the government to fund and fast-track the process, meaning Parliament must consider it for debate.

But as she continues to push for the screening to be included in the newborn blood spot test and care for her daughters’ medical needs, Jesy revealed she has parked her music career.

Appearing on Heart FM’s Breakfast show, she told Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston: ‘Look listen I’d never say never to music, but for me, my girls are my main focus.

‘I’ll be honest with you, I’ve not got time, I really don’t. They are my whole heart and soul and my main focus, and I want to continue advocating for them and getting this heel prick test changed and getting them strong, that’s my main focus.

‘Because that’s going to determine their future. That’s my main focus right now.’

She previously described caring for the twins to the Daily Mail as an emotional rollercoaster, with some days being ‘really f***ing s***’ and others slightly lighter.

Jesy explained that she and ex-partner, Zion, never expected to be caring for their babies in such a way, and having to provide for their medical needs is a daily struggle.

She told how the medical procedures her babies must endure each day leave her feeling like she’s hurting them as they cry and scream.

‘Every day is so full-on – I can speak about it, but I’ll never be able to explain how intense it is until you see it,’ Jesy told the Daily Mail.

‘There are a lot of medical things I have to do which I am still really struggling with, I’ll be honest with you. I never expected that to be part of my life and it’s tough.

Last month Jesy revealed the devastating news that both babies had been diagnosed with genetic neuromuscular disease, Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1)

Last month Jesy revealed the devastating news that both babies had been diagnosed with genetic neuromuscular disease, Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1)

‘They’re so tiny and I have to do things which I know are doing them good but at the time, when they’re crying and screaming, it feels like I’m hurting them and I hate that I have to be the person to do that. I just want to be their mum.’

When asked about a typical day with her twin daughters, Jesy said it’s impossible to describe, as no day is ever the same emotionally.

She added: ‘I don’t know how to explain my life in the day because sometimes it’s really f***ing s*** and then, other times, I don’t necessarily forget about their diagnosis but there are days [that] are lighter and they’re not as heavy.

‘So many mums have told me that’s what it’s going to be like and that’s why I need to take each day as it comes. It’s a rollercoaster; I don’t feel like this is going to be a steady journey at all.’

She has also addressed the tragic prognosis that Ocean and Story may not live beyond the age of two.

Speaking to Jamie Laing on his Great Company podcast, Jesy said she was hopeful that her babies would  defy the odds now that they are receiving treatment.

‘So spinal muscular atrophy is a muscular wasting disease, so they don’t have a gene that we all have in our body,’ she said.

‘Their muscles are now deteriorating and wasting away, and if you don’t get them treatment in time, eventually the muscles will all just die, which then affects the breathing, the swallowing, everything. And they will die before the age of two.

‘It’s not OK, but it is what it is, and I just have to accept it, and now just try and make the best out of this situation… And my girls are the strongest, most resilient babies and I really believe that they are going to defy all the odds.’

What is spinal muscular atrophy?

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a disease that weakens a patient’s strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord.

It results in gradual muscle wasting and the severity of symptoms varies by type.

Type 1 SMA is the most severe and is evident at birth. The weakening of muscles means sufferers cannot sit and usually leads to death by the age of five.

Type 2  is intermediate with the sufferer being unable to stand.

Type 3 is mild and makes it difficult to get up from a sitting position.

Type 4 sufferers don’t have symptoms until they are in their 20s or 30s.

Brooklyn has yet to post to mark Mother’s Day amid the feud.

He has grown close with Nicola’s parents and spent last Christmas celebrating with them, including her brother Bradley.

It comes after he is said to have been ‘disheartened’ that his parents publicly wished him a happy birthday and broke their communication agreement.

The eldest son of Victoria and David turned 27 earlier this month and blasted the ‘performative posts’ which included loving messages, according to reports.

An insider told ET that Brooklyn wants to put an end to any attempt from his parents to contact him, including on social media, following their bitter falling out.

Victoria, 51, David, 50, and his brothers Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 21, all shared heartfelt posts honouring Brooklyn’s birthday, but they were apparently unappreciated.

A source told the publication: ‘Brooklyn and Nicola are disheartened they chose to make public Instagram posts for his birthday.

‘These are the exact type of performative public actions that Brooklyn has been trying to put an end to, to no avail.

‘Last summer they issued a legal letter to his parents requesting that any correspondence go through lawyers.’

Brooklyn spent the day with Nicola who shared a video of her husband blowing out his candles on a box of doughnuts.

The aspiring chef only took to Instagram during the day to thank his wife for her gushing social media post, brushing aside his family’s olive branch.

He was given another opportunity to reconnect with his estranged family after his parents attempted to build bridges by sharing a series of birthday tributes.

But while he failed to acknowledge their nostalgic throwback photos, birthday messages and repeated use of his affectionate nickname – Buster – he wasted no time in responding to Nicola.

The most recent reports suggest Brooklyn is on speaking terms with his grandfather Ted and his wife Hilary, even though he remains estranged from his parents. He’s reportedly been in regular contact with them.

Now based in the United States with his wife, Brooklyn recently outlined his desire to distance himself from his family in a six-page Instagram statement filled with lurid allegations.

Addressing social media followers in January, he claimed his parents had tried to sabotage his marriage and have always prioritised public branding over their family relationships.

‘For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family,’ he wrote.

‘The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.’

He added: ‘Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.’

Brooklyn Beckham’s statement in full

I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.

I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.

Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.

My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped. My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress.

Weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children.

They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated. My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since.

During the wedding planning, my mum went so far as to call me “evil” because Nicola and I chose to include my Nanny Sandra, and Nicola’s Naunni at our table, because they both didn’t have their husbands. Both of our parents had their own tables equally adjacent to ours.

The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was “not blood” and “not family.” Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, I’ve received endless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, that were sent to the press on their orders.

Even my brothers were sent to attack me on social media, before they ultimately blocked me out of nowhere this last Summer.

My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song. In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead.

She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life. We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.

My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.

Despite this, we still travelled to London for my dad’s birthday and were rejected for a week as we waited in our hotel room trying to plan quality time with him. He refused all of our attempts, unless it was at his big birthday party with a hundred guests and cameras at every corner.

When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn’t invited. It was a slap in the face. Later, when my family travelled to LA, they refused to see me at all.

My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family “love” is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it’s at the expense of our professional obligations.

We’ve gone out of our way for years to show up and support at every fashion show, every party, and every press activity to show ‘our perfect family.’ But the one time my wife asked for my mum’s support to save displaced dogs during the LA fires, my mum refused.

The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.

I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief. My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.

No specific product names or innovations were detailed in the document.

Sweeney recently opened up about her mission for the brand, insisting she wanted to ensure every piece fits well and works on a ‘beautiful range of body types.’

She told Cosmopolitan magazine: ‘My designers are all women, and I have an amazing diverse team.

‘My models are a beautiful range of body types. I’m always like: “I want to see it on every body.” I can’t be the only model. I need to make sure everyone feels really good in it.’

Sweeney emphasized, ‘If I wouldn’t wear it, I wouldn’t want to make it.’

Brooklyn Beckham reveals the cheeky nickname he calls wife Nicola Peltz after celebrating his 27th birthday

Brooklyn Beckham has revealed one of the cheeky nicknames he calls his wife Nicola Peltz.

On Wednesday, the estranged son of Sir David and Victoria Beckham celebrated his 27th birthday, with his wife Nicola, 31, throwing him a party.

The actress shared a slew of loved-up snaps from the evening on Instagram, showing the couple packing on the PDA.

In the post, Nicola flashed sideboob in a black halterneck gown as she posed for snaps puckering up to her husband.

She captioned the post: ‘last night was so special thank you to everyone who came and made it so perfect.’

Nicola then appeared to make a jibe at the Beckhams – who are known for always professing their love for family members in their captions – as she finished off writing: ‘we all love you so much brooklyn!’

Fans rushed to the comments section to share their birthday wishes for the aspiring chef.

However, the post’s most-liked comment came from Brooklyn himself, who sweetly wrote to his wife: ‘My sexy little pepper xx’

The flirty remark racked up more than 300 likes, with fans replying to say how adorable they found the couple while also complimenting Nicola on her stylish look for the evening.

One fan wrote: ‘Agree! The third picture is smoking. Wow!’; while another added: ‘best couple!!’

It comes after Nicola offered a pointed response when she was questioned about the drama surrounding the Beckham family feud.

The actress and Brooklyn have been embroiled in an ugly fallout with her husband’s parents David and Victoria for months, with things coming to a head in January when Brooklyn posted an explosive statement about the row.

Despite her husband proving he wasn’t afraid to speak out, Nicola did not publicly comment on the feud at the time.

However, in an interview this week the billionaire heiress was directly asked: ‘There’s been a lot of public interest in your real life and relationship with husband Brooklyn Beckham’s family. How have you navigated that attention?’

Steering the chat firmly back to her upcoming movie, Nicola pointedly replied: ‘I’ve been editing my next film [Prima] for the past two and a half weeks.

‘So honestly, I’ve been in the editing room. We haven’t had weekends. We’ve just been trying to make a deadline [for Cannes].’

She added to The Hollywood Reporter: ‘And it’s been so amazing to just put my focus on that and be creative. It’s been really fun doing that, and I’m really excited for it to come out.’

Communication between the Beckham family has fallen apart so spectacularly that Brooklyn is said to have requested that any attempts from his family to communicate with him should be done through his lawyers.

However, on Brooklyn’s 27th birthday on Wednesday, his parents made sure to make it known that he was in their thoughts, sharing a slew of birthday tributes on Instagram.

Sharing childhood photos of Brooklyn and tagging his wife Victoria, David used his childhood nickname for his son, Buster, as he wrote ’27 today. Happy Birthday Bust. We love you x’.

Minutes later Victoria shared the same photo and wrote ‘happy birthday Brooklyn, we love you so much’, before uploading a photo of herself laughing with her son with a string of love hearts.

Romeo and Cruz also shared posts along with members of extended family.

However, the posts are not said to have sat well with Brooklyn, with an insider telling ET that the aspiring chef wants to put an end to any attempt from his parents to contact him, including on social media, following their bitter falling out.

Despite the report, Brooklyn’s younger brother Cruz expressed his hopes of a reconciliation when he was asked about the fallout on Thursday while out in Paris with his girlfriend Jackie Apostel.

The musician, 21, was quizzed by a reporter if he had a message for Brooklyn as he celebrated his 27th birthday this week.

He simply replied: ‘Happy Birthday.’

When the TMZ reporter asked Cruz if he had spoken to him at all, he did not respond, though did say he ‘hoped to’ repair his fractured relationship with his sibling.

Brooklyn failed to publicly reach out to Cruz on his milestone 21st birthday last week and snubbed his birthday message this week.

One post he did respond to was Nicola’s, after she shared a gushing birthday message to him with a notably pink-themed tribute to her Instagram grid.

The American actress, who is taking on her most ambitious role yet as a ballerina in Prima, has been leaning into the traditional baby pink associated with the dance and its costume in her recent social media posts.

And Brooklyn’s birthday post did not veer from the pattern, as she treated her husband to pink doughnuts and flowers on the day.

Brooklyn, who was apparently disheartened by his parents’ ‘performative’ birthday tributes, was even fittingly dressed in a pale pink jumper to match the surroundings.

In keeping with the theme, Nicola was also wearing a baby pink top to match, in a cosy picture she shared of herself and Brooklyn cuddled up on the day.

Captioning the post, she wrote: ‘Happy birthday baby… I hope all your dreams and wishes come true! you light up every room you walk into and anyone who knows you loves you… you’re the most special human and I love being your wife. I love you I love you I love you.’

Responding to her birthday tribute, he wrote: ‘I love you baby girl.’

Nicola appeared to have something special up her sleeve for Brooklyn, with the actress gifting him a box of twenty one iced doughnuts, individually shaped to read ‘Happy Birthday Brooklyn’.

The influencer was also confronted by a mountain of gifts, thoughtfully presented in Cloud 23 wrapping paper – a reference to his popular hot sauce brand, ironically named after his father’s shirt number at Real Madrid and Los Angeles Galaxy.

Now based in the United States with his actress wife Nicola, Brooklyn recently outlined his desire to distance himself from his family in a six-page Instagram statement filled with lurid allegations.

Millionaire BrewDog founder James Watt says he’s ‘heartbroken’ after dozens of bars close and hundreds of jobs are lost following £33million sale

BrewDog co-founder James Watt says he is ‘heartbroken’ after his firm was sold off for just £33million this week – with the loss of almost 500 jobs.

The Scottish brewery, which was speculatively valued at £2billion just a few years ago, was sold to US cannabis and drinks firm Tilray for a fraction of that earlier this week.

A total of 38 UK bars were closed on Monday, when CEO James Taylor told 484 staff in an all-hands conference call that they were no longer employed.

Shares owned by the 220,000 ‘equity punks’ who invested some £75million in the company over seven funding rounds are now practically worthless.

In a post shared across several social media channels, self-espousing ‘punk’ and multimillionaire Mr Watt expressed contrition over the company’s downfall. However, it failed to impress some observers.

Describing the last week as ‘incredibly hard’, he wrote: ‘I am heartbroken for all of the hard working and passionate team members who have lost their jobs.

‘I am heartbroken for all of our brilliant equity punks who did not get the return on their investment they wanted.

‘And heartbroken to have dedicated the best 20 years of my life to something that ultimately did not have the ending we all wished for.’

Mr Watt – who stepped back from the role of CEO in 2024 amid allegations of a toxic culture within BrewDog – said he would have ‘loved to save every single job and every single equity punk investment’ but ‘couldn’t’, adding: ‘That will stay with me.’

He added that, ‘with the benefit of hindsight’ the firm had expanded too quickly and diversified too widely, and that he had not responded to PR crises in a way that was ‘authentic and true to who I am’.

‘I am sorry that I was not able to repay the faith you bestowed in me with the outcome you all deserved,’ he signed off the post.

Observers on social media responded with a mix of well-wishing and cynicism – noting that Watt and co-founder Martin Dickie shared in a reported £100million payday when they sold 22 per cent of the firm to US investment firm TSG Partners.

The 2017 deal gave TSG ‘preferential’ shares that entitled them to a return on their investment in the event the company was sold – over and above other investors, including the so-called ‘equity punks’ that are now unlikely to get any money back.

‘Are you “heartbroken” you gave the institutional investor preference over the equity punks James? An arrangement that ensured we received no return on our investments,’ wrote one commenter under Mr Watt’s LinkedIn post.

‘I’m sure you have plenty of sympathy for those left with no jobs and bills to pay whilst you sit in your penthouse overlooking Blackfriars,’ wrote one follower on Instagram, where Mr Watt has limited who can comment.

Others were more positive.

‘Haters will always hate but there is no doubt that Brewdog was at the heart of, what is now, a resurgent craft beer culture in the UK,’ said one fan on Instagram.

‘As an equity punk myself I’m happy to say that I was part of that revolution and am delighted with the non-financial return on that investment.’

An email sent to investors this week, seen by the Daily Mail, thanked amateur investors for their contributions – and said they would continue to receive benefits such as discounts – including an additional discount for those with BrewDog tattoos.

‘We know you will have questions, and we ask for your patience while we focus on supporting our people and stabilising the business,’ the email added.

New owner Tilray Brands, described euphemistically in the email as a ‘leading global lifestyle and consumer packaged goods company’, owns several brands of medical and consumer cannabis in the United States, as well as other alcohol businesses.

Administrators AlixPartners said it had not received any offers that would have ‘preserved BrewDog in its entirety.’

Watt, who is married to Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo, had sought to invest £10million of his own cash in the firm as part of a rescue deal that ultimately failed.

Some 733 staff have been retained in the sale, including operational staff and those working at 11 franchised pubs.

But those who were sacked were told, per the BBC, to claim for lost wages via the Insolvency Service after the firm was put into administration – putting the onus on the public purse to pick up the tab.

They were given little notice of the conference call that saw them sacked – which has been compared to the mass sacking conducted by P&O Ferries in 2022.

Bryan Simpson, lead organiser of Unite’s hospitality branch, described the conduct of BrewDog management as ‘nothing short of a national disgrace’.

‘This has all the hallmarks of the scandal at P&O Ferries… it is a disgrace that lessons have clearly not been learned across corporate Britain,’ he told the Mail.

‘A company does not lose 97 per cent of its value in nine years without catastrophic mismanagement.’

He added that the union is demanding answers over unpaid wages with appointed administrator AlixPartners.

James Brown, the former CEO of BrewDog’s bars division, said the Government should shoulder some blame for BrewDog’s woes after hiking National Insurance.

‘For years now, government policy on rates and employment taxes has steadily eroded confidence in hospitality,’ he wrote on LinkedIn.

‘The leadership over the nearly 20 years of BrewDog could never have envisaged the world post Brexit, Post Covid and the tax, costs and admin burden facing businesses today.’

BrewDog grew from a small beer brewing business founded by Watt and Dickie in 2007 to the world’s leading craft beer brand at its peak in the late 2010s.

However, it was plagued by a series of public relations misfires and allegations of a toxic working culture and inappropriate behaviour by Mr Watt, who has vehemently denied any wrongdoing over the years.

In 2022, a BBC documentary aired claims that he had kissed a drunk customer and that female staff were given advice on how to avoid unwelcome attention from him on visits to bars.

Mr Watt later apologised for making anyone feel ‘uncomfortable’ – but hired private detectives to investigate those who had raised concerns and went to regulator Ofcom challenging the programme’s claims. It upheld none of his complaints.

BrewDog has weathered PR storms over the years, facing claims that it has shed its original DIY ‘punk’ ethos and become one of the corporate juggernauts that it resented so deeply.

The BBC reported in 2022 that Mr Watt had once purchased £500,000 of shares in Dutch brewery Heineken during takeover talks; he also sunk £2million into an offshore hedge fund.

BrewDog itself ditched the ‘real’ living wage in 2024. It has also been criticised for recent rounds of closures and redundancies, and has been repeatedly challenged on its environmental claims.

The ‘Lost Forest’, a 10,000 acre woodland estate in the Scottish Highlands, was sold off after trees that BrewDog planted to offset its carbon emissions either died or failed to take root.

BrewDog’s international future is unclear. It has four breweries: its main headquarters in Ellon, Aberdeenshire; Columbus, Ohio in the US; Brisbane, Australia; and Berlin in Germany.

It told investors this week that its international businesses were ‘being reviewed’. However, the Berliner Morgenpost has reported that the German arm of the business is likely to be liquidated. It closed one Berlin bar last month.

Martin Dickie, co-founder of BrewDog, stepped away in 2025 citing personal reasons.

Mr Watt has since co-founded his new business Social Tip, which promises influencer-style payouts for people who promote brands on social media.

It has paid £500,000 to its 100,000 users since its launch last year – equivalent to £5 per user.

’70s pinup Mariel Hemingway, 64, who was a Playboy bunny and co-starred with Woody Allen, shares brutally honest post about aging

Mariel Hemingway was a blonde pinup beauty in the 1970s and 1980s.

The granddaughter of novelist Ernest Hemingway was a model in New York City for top fashion magazines such as Vogue and Cosmopolitan.

She then parlayed that fame into a starring role in the Woody Allen doomed romance drama Manhattan in 1979.

Soon after, she appeared in a 1982 Playboy magazine feature following her role in the film Personal Best.

The thespian landed the lead role in 1983’s Star 80, in which she played real-life Playboy bunny Dorothy Stratton, who was brutally murdered.

The actress was also in the films Bad Moon and Lipstick, and she popped up on popular TV shows such as Roseanne and Law & Order.

This month, the 64-year-old artist wrote an honest Instagram post about dealing with the aging process and living with wrinkles.

Her note was long and covered a lot of ground as she posted an unfiltered close-up photo of herself.

‘I have been talking about aging lately. But today it is not aging. It is wrinkles. The lines around my mouth I swore I would never have,’ she mused.

‘The soft crepe skin at my neck that seems to appear overnight. The mirror catching me in light I did not ask for.

‘Some days I do not care. Other days, it feels like a punishment. I eat well. I move my body. I take care of myself. I do the things we are told will protect us. And still… time touches my face.

‘There is a voice that whispers, Why this? Why me? Why now? I know it is fashionable to say we earned our wrinkles. That this is graceful. That this is beautiful. And yes… part of me knows that is true.

Her grandfather is author Ernest Hemingway

‘But another part feels something deeper. What I realized is this. The ache is not about the wrinkles. It is about identity.’ she noted.

‘Somewhere along the way, we start to believe the mirror is telling us who we are. That youth equals value. That smooth skin equals worth. That beauty equals belonging.

‘And that is the lie. Because there is a woman inside of me who has not aged one day. She is calm. She is radiant. She is grounded. She is sovereign. She does not disappear because my skin changes. She was never my skin. She is my rhythm.

‘My breath. My voice when I stop performing. Time changes the body. But it does not touch the throne. When I remember that, something softens. I stop fighting the season. I stop punishing myself for nature. I stop confusing appearance with identity.

‘This is not about pretending you love every wrinkle. It is about remembering you are not the wrinkle. It is not what you add. It is what you remove. Remove the belief that beauty is youth. Remove the fear that aging equals invisibility. Remove the story that your value lives in your face. When there is nothing left to remove, the Queen remains.’

She ended with: ‘Where have you mistaken your reflection for your identity?’

Her followers loved the post, commenting on the honesty of her missive. Actress Lesley Ann Warren said, ‘Absolutely glorious message. I’m right there ♥️.’

Another fan said, ‘Truth! Reconciling age is pain & joy all wrapped up together… I hear you!’

Soon after, Hemingway shared another post with a profile photo attached. ‘What if the insecurity wasn’t the problem? What if it was the solution?’ began the star.

‘Because as long as you’re not quite ready, not quite certain, not quite confident enough, you never have to find out what happens when you actually step forward.

‘You never have to risk being too much. You never have to carry the weight of a life you actually chose.

‘Staying small has a hidden benefit no one wants to admit: It keeps the responsibility off the table. So the doubt stayed. And you let it. Not because you were weak. Because you were protecting something. You are not held back by self-doubt. You are held back by the fear of what becomes possible when you stop hiding behind it.’

Apple surprises fans with the iPhone 17e: £599 ‘budget’ smartphone has TWICE the storage of the 16e – and comes in a stunning soft pink shade

Apple has surprised fans with a new iPhone, called the iPhone 17e.

The tech giant usually hosts elaborate launch events at its Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California.

However, it skipped the fanfare this year, simply announcing the device via a post on its newsroom.

At £599 (and sold for $599 in the US), the iPhone 17e is the same price as its predecessor, the 16e, but comes with twice the amount of storage.

There’s also a stunning new ‘soft pink’ colour option, which is bound to be a hit with the Instagram generation.

‘iPhone 17e combines powerful performance and features our users love at an exceptional value, making it a compelling option for customers looking to upgrade to the iPhone 17 family,’ said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice-president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing.

‘We know our customers want a product that will last, and iPhone 17e delivers just that.

‘With A19 for incredible performance, double the entry storage, a smarter camera system, and enhanced durability, iPhone 17e is designed to stay fast, secure, and valuable for years to come.’

At £599 ($599 in the US), the iPhone 17e is the same price as last year’s iPhone 16e – but comes with twice the amount of storage

The iPhone 17e features Apple’s latest–generation A19 chip, which delivers ‘exceptional performance’, according to Apple.

In terms of camera, the device has a 48MP Fusion camera, although Apple’s describes this as ‘two cameras in one’.

‘The 48MP Fusion camera enables an optical–quality 2x Telephoto, giving users two cameras in one so they can get closer to the subject and easily frame their shot,’ the tech giant explained.

‘Users can shoot sharp photos at up to 48MP resolution, or capture in the 24MP default for incredible image quality at a file size perfect for storing and sharing.’

One of the most exciting new features is support for MagSafe charging, which many fans were disappointed was missing on the iPhone 16e.

This not only enables fast wireless charging up to 15W but also opens the door to a range of new accessories, including chargers, wallets and camera accessories.

The iPhone 17e is available in three colours – black, white and a new soft pink – and in two storage options.

While last year’s device cost £599 (or $599 in the US) for 128GB, you’ll be able to get twice the storage for the same price this year – ideal if you’re always running out of space on your iPhone.

Elon Musk’s transgender daughter Vivian wears silky gown to walk in Milan Fashion Week

Elon Musk’s transgender daughter slipped into a silky gown as she took to the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week.

Vivian Wilson, 21, who has been estranged from the Tesla founder since 2020, wore a white Gucci one-sleeved dress that boasted a high neck and side split.

The look, designed by the Italian fashion house’s new artistic director, Demna, was finished with a pair of glittering pointed-toe heels and a sparkly silver clutch bag.

Wilson wore her long blonde tresses straight with one side swept behind her shoulder.

She posed up a storm as she made her way down the runway, crossing paths with fashion royalty such as Kate Moss and Emily Ratajkowski.

Just moments after her appearance, Wilson celebrated the achievement on social media.

‘I just walked for Gucci lmfao,’ she wrote on her Instagram story in text that overlaid a makeup-free selfie.

But it is not the first time that Wilson has been in the style spotlight.

She appeared on the cover of Teen Vogue in March last year and, two months later, officially made her modeling debut while collaborating with the brand Wildfang.

That same month in May, she additionally modeled pieces for the underwear brand Tomboyx.

‘I was terrified,’ Wilson said of the latter shoot during an interview with Vanity Fair. ‘Before this, I was very much the person who didn’t show any skin, ever, at all.

‘Even in my day-to-day, like going to the beach with friends, I would not wear a swimsuit.’

The star added, ‘So it was very, very nerve-racking, but I wanted to do [the shoot] because I wanted to have more confidence in my own body.

‘I do feel confident in my own body, but I wanted to prove that confidence to myself, if that makes any sense.’

In September last year, Wilson made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week, strutting for CHRISHABANA’s Spring 2026 show.

When it comes to being more in the spotlight, Wilson admitted to The Cut last year, ‘I’m not very good at being famous. It’s a skill.

‘I fought so hard for so long to be viewed as a regular person. There was a moment literally right before I became famous where no one knew who I was. It was amazing.’

The star added, ‘Everyone treated me as a regular person. I kind of miss that. But I also like being famous.’

Wilson is the eldest daughter of Musk and his ex-wife, Justine.

At the age of 16, she came out as trans and two years later filed to have Musk dropped from her last name amid her estrangement with her father.

Wilson briefly opened up about the relationship she has with the tech mogul while talking to Teen Vogue.

‘I don’t give a f*** about him. I really don’t. It’s annoying that people associate me with him. I just don’t have any room to care anymore.’

Wilson is active on social media and currently boasts one million Instagram followers. She often posts insights into her modeling career and takes fans along to events she has attended.
