Beckham in stitches as Carragher puts him on the spot with Neville question

Jamie Carragher left David Beckham in stitches on CBS Sports after asking the former Manchester United star about his old team-mate Gary Neville

David Beckham could not contain his laughter after being asked to confirm that Gary Neville would NOT be appointed by Inter Miami. The England and Manchester United icon is currently searching for a new head coach for the MLS club following Javier Mascherano’s departure for personal reasons.

Beckham, 50, appeared as a guest on CBS Sports for their Champions League coverage and was quizzed for an update on the search. However, former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher decided to inject a little mischief into proceedings.

During his exchange with Beckham, he said: “I am going to put you on the spot. Can you just confirm please that Gary Neville will not be the next manager will he?”

The remark sent the former winger, along with Micah Richards, into fits of laughter, while fellow pundit Thierry Henry buried his face in his notes to hide his amusement.

Once he had regained his composure, Beckham replied: “I can confirm that Gary Neville will not be the next manager,” to which Carragher celebrated and said: “Yes, that’ll do me.”

Neville endured a notorious spell in management with Spanish club Valencia back in 2015, but was sacked after less than four months in charge and has yet to return to the dugout.

Speaking last year, Neville said: “Stick in your lane, stick to what you’re good at. This idea that I thought I could have all the businesses, the media career and be a head coach was nonsense, absolute nonsense.

“I saw Ange Postecoglou’s interview recently and it really hit home when he said: ‘these guys are tired, they’ve been playing Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday for the last four months’. At Valencia post-Christmas, I didn’t have one midweek break for three months. It was awful. I lost my confidence, didn’t want to turn up to press conferences.

“Six a week, the questions the same. ‘When’s this going to end?’ All the things that I know you have to ask. It was brutal. I never ask for a manager to be sacked. It’s the one job I think I stay clear of being wholly critical of.”

While Beckham has confirmed that Neville won’t be stepping into the role, he’s pledged that the club will adopt a measured approach in finding Mascherano’s successor. He continued: “He [Mascherano] came off the back of last season by winning our first championship.

“He’s an amazing person, a great coach, the players loved him, but obviously, these things happen in football clubs and we have to move on. We have to find a new coach at some point.

“But at the moment, we have to let things settle down. But, like I said, with owning a team, there are always challenges.”

Coleen Rooney’s lavish 40th birthday party gets underway as guests arrive in style and a helicopter is seen landing at their £20M mansion

Coleen Rooney’s lavish 40th birthday party has got underway as guests arrived in style with a helicopter seen landing at their £20M mansion.

The I’m A Celebrity star is set to throw a huge bash for her closest friends and family as she has an enormous white marquee put up in the 50-acre grounds of her home.

Among the stars pulling up to the mansion for the bash on Friday were English former footballer Phil Jones and his wife Kaya Hall.

TV personality Leanne Brown, who first rose to fame as one of the original cast members of Real Housewives of Cheshire back in 2015, also made an appearance.

Meanwhile Irish former footballer Darron Gibson was joined by another attendee in a black car as he arrived, and Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy also stepped out.

And it appears the star studded guests have began to arrive, with a helicopter spotted landing at Coleen and Wayne’s £20million Cheshire home.

In another snap, a glimpse of an outdoor marquee could be seen erected in the garden as people arrived in chauffeured cars.

The incredibly lavish celebrations are reportedly set to include hundreds of bottles of champagne on ice, a world famous singer to entertain the VIP crowd as well as a strict phone ban.

Wayne’s footballer pals, including Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher, are all on the guest list for the huge bash, along with Coleen’s WAG pals such as Annie Kilner and Abbey Clancy.

Speaking to The Mirror, a friend of Coleen’s reportedly said she loves to party and will be up dancing during the celebrations.

‘Coleen parties like a good northern Lass,’ they said. ‘She’s a very normal girl at the end of the day – she just likes a good time and having fun. It will be epic.’

Elsewhere on Friday, Wayne and lookalike son Kai headed to the barbers in Cheshire ahead of the party.

Wayne cut a casual figure as the barber got to work while Kai, 16, was seen arriving with takeaway food for the pair.

The teen was dressed in a grey tracksuit which he teamed with chunky trainers and a £400 Louis Vuitton beanie.

While Coleen organised a surprise party for Wayne’s 40th in October last year, he has not returned the favour and steered clear from planning the party over fears of disappointing her.

She said at the time: ‘He always uses the excuse of “it wouldn’t be good enough for you”. He’s not really a planner, so he’ll say “there’s no point in me doing it because you’d want to do it yourself”.’

A source told The Mirror: ‘[Coleen] wants to have a good time without anyone filming anything like Wayne falling on the dance floor or being drunk, It’s going be very high protection when it comes to this. It’s a private party. There’s no one that can party like Coleen’.

While its unclear who will be performing it has been claimed ‘no expense has been spared’ on the ‘Mariah Carey level singer’.

The source went on to say: ‘The guest list is obviously going to be A list and very football related. There’s going to be all of Wayne’s old teammates, the ex-Manchester United squad and everyone that’s played with Wayne, including David Beckham’.

‘[Wayne] wants Rio Ferdinand there, if he can get over from Dubai. There are a few players that might not be able to make it, but it is going to be full of people that have been there for them’.

The Daily Mail have contacted Coleen and David Beckham’s reps for comment.

Meanwhile fellow WAG and pal Tanya Bardsley, 44, showed off her new hair extensions ahead of the swanky bash.

She also posted a tribute to Coleen on her Instagram Stories which read: ‘Happy birthday to this gorgeous icon, can’t wait to celebrate with you later.’

Coleen reportedly has hundreds of bottles of champagne on ice for the bank holiday weekend marking her milestone day.

Caterers and staff will keep the party running smoothly, with insiders saying no expense has been spared for Coleen.

An insider told The Sun: ‘Coleen loves a good knees-up. She can afford a lovely lifestyle and everything at the party will be classy and beautifully done. But for her, plenty of booze, good music and her family is all she will want. There’s going to be live music and you can guarantee Wayne will be getting up on the microphone. He loves to sing and will be keen to give everyone a tune or two.’

The Daily Mail have contacted Coleen’s representatives for comment.

Ahead of the bash, Coleen said: ‘I’m looking forward to it, I love a birthday and a celebration.

‘I have decided to enjoy a couple of different celebrations with family and friends over the year, and with my birthday falling over Easter weekend, some friends are away — so any opportunity to extend the celebrations…’

Brooklyn Beckham’s football career before making heartbreaking admission to dad

Brooklyn Beckham initially tried to follow in his dad David’s footsteps and carve out a football career

Brooklyn Beckham was born into the spotlight. As the first child of world-renowned superstars David and Victoria, Brooklyn initially tried to emulate his father’s sporting career, though his brief time in football ended in his teenage years.

Manchester United legend David was still a future England captain when Brooklyn arrived in March 1999. Several years on, his eldest son began to show the abilities he’d inherited, catching the eye of coaches at community sessions organised by Tottenham Hotspur.

When the family relocated to America following David’s transfer to LA Galaxy in 2007, Brooklyn subsequently joined the club’s academy and also trained with Paris Saint-Germain when his father played for the French outfit. Yet it was after David hung up his boots in 2013 that Brooklyn began carving out his own football career.

Academy football

In May 2013, reports surfaced that Brooklyn was training with Queens Park Rangers’ academy, not long after his father had brought his career to a close. The then-14-year-old had also undergone a trial at Chelsea.

A source told The Mirror that Brooklyn was a technically gifted central midfielder and winger, occupying similar roles to his father, but found it difficult to gel with his teammates. A source familiar with Brooklyn during this time remembered that he was reserved and would frequently position himself at the back of groups.

Being the son of England’s most celebrated footballer meant his early forays into the game were overseen by the family’s security personnel. This unusual situation and pressure led to Brooklyn typically being more reserved than his teammates.

When David turned up to training sessions, the Mirror was told that the former England captain was always polite, though his presence created a spectacle that disrupted sessions. The attention surrounding his father left Brooklyn visibly uncomfortable.

The circumstances resemble what United academy youngster Kai Rooney previously experienced. He banned his dad Wayne from watching his games because the England legend being in attendance would prove too distracting.

Brooklyn later moved to Arsenal’s academy aged 15 and was notably included in a U18 matchday squad while at the club. Speaking to Goal in 2021, former Gunners teammate and current Burnley star Jaidon Anthony said of Brooklyn: “It was an interesting time having him. He was a very nice guy and just wanted to be one of the lads.

“To be fair, we took him in as well. He was a good player; he was a right winger just like his dad. He surprised me with his skills.”

Heartbreaking decision

However, Brooklyn left Arsenal in 2015 after failing to secure a scholarship, bringing his footballing ambitions to an end. In an interview with ABC News, David recalled the heartbreaking moment his son revealed how deeply the comparisons with his father had affected him.

“I’d love them [my kids] to play soccer, but I want them to be happy doing it, you know,” David said of his children in 2015. “There was one thing that one of my boys turned around to me the other day, he said, ‘I’m not sure I want to play football all the time.’

“It broke my heart a little bit. He said, ‘Every time that I step onto the field, I know people are saying, you know, ‘This is David Beckham’s son,’ and if I’m not as good as you, then it’s not good enough.’ I said, ‘Okay, stop right there… You play because you want to play. You play because it makes you happy.'”

Several years on, Brooklyn reflected on the encouragement his father offered during such a challenging time. “My dad wasn’t sad, because he was like, ‘I just want you to be happy,'” Brooklyn told Variety in 2022. “But of course, I was sad. It was my whole life since I was literally two.”

He added: “To try and live up to what my dad did in football, I was just like, that’s going to be a bit difficult.”

Family feud

The dynamics within the Beckham family have since changed, with Brooklyn lashing out at his parents in a lengthy social media post in January. The now-27-year-old accused football legend David and former Spice Girl Victoria of trying to “ruin” his relationship with his wife Nicola Peltz, whom he wed in 2022.

In an Instagram post, Brooklyn said: “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.

“For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”

He continued: “The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.”

Brooklyn Beckham reveals the cheeky nickname he calls wife Nicola Peltz after celebrating his 27th birthday

Brooklyn Beckham has revealed one of the cheeky nicknames he calls his wife Nicola Peltz.

On Wednesday, the estranged son of Sir David and Victoria Beckham celebrated his 27th birthday, with his wife Nicola, 31, throwing him a party.

The actress shared a slew of loved-up snaps from the evening on Instagram, showing the couple packing on the PDA.

In the post, Nicola flashed sideboob in a black halterneck gown as she posed for snaps puckering up to her husband.

She captioned the post: ‘last night was so special thank you to everyone who came and made it so perfect.’

Nicola then appeared to make a jibe at the Beckhams – who are known for always professing their love for family members in their captions – as she finished off writing: ‘we all love you so much brooklyn!’

Fans rushed to the comments section to share their birthday wishes for the aspiring chef.

However, the post’s most-liked comment came from Brooklyn himself, who sweetly wrote to his wife: ‘My sexy little pepper xx’

The flirty remark racked up more than 300 likes, with fans replying to say how adorable they found the couple while also complimenting Nicola on her stylish look for the evening.

One fan wrote: ‘Agree! The third picture is smoking. Wow!’; while another added: ‘best couple!!’

It comes after Nicola offered a pointed response when she was questioned about the drama surrounding the Beckham family feud.

The actress and Brooklyn have been embroiled in an ugly fallout with her husband’s parents David and Victoria for months, with things coming to a head in January when Brooklyn posted an explosive statement about the row.

Despite her husband proving he wasn’t afraid to speak out, Nicola did not publicly comment on the feud at the time.

However, in an interview this week the billionaire heiress was directly asked: ‘There’s been a lot of public interest in your real life and relationship with husband Brooklyn Beckham’s family. How have you navigated that attention?’

Steering the chat firmly back to her upcoming movie, Nicola pointedly replied: ‘I’ve been editing my next film [Prima] for the past two and a half weeks.

‘So honestly, I’ve been in the editing room. We haven’t had weekends. We’ve just been trying to make a deadline [for Cannes].’

She added to The Hollywood Reporter: ‘And it’s been so amazing to just put my focus on that and be creative. It’s been really fun doing that, and I’m really excited for it to come out.’

Communication between the Beckham family has fallen apart so spectacularly that Brooklyn is said to have requested that any attempts from his family to communicate with him should be done through his lawyers.

However, on Brooklyn’s 27th birthday on Wednesday, his parents made sure to make it known that he was in their thoughts, sharing a slew of birthday tributes on Instagram.

Sharing childhood photos of Brooklyn and tagging his wife Victoria, David used his childhood nickname for his son, Buster, as he wrote ’27 today. Happy Birthday Bust. We love you x’.

Minutes later Victoria shared the same photo and wrote ‘happy birthday Brooklyn, we love you so much’, before uploading a photo of herself laughing with her son with a string of love hearts.

Romeo and Cruz also shared posts along with members of extended family.

However, the posts are not said to have sat well with Brooklyn, with an insider telling ET that the aspiring chef wants to put an end to any attempt from his parents to contact him, including on social media, following their bitter falling out.

A source told the publication: ‘Brooklyn and Nicola are disheartened they chose to make public Instagram posts for his birthday.

‘These are the exact type of performative public actions that Brooklyn has been trying to put an end to, to no avail.

‘Last summer they issued a legal letter to his parents requesting that any correspondence go through lawyers.’

Despite the report, Brooklyn’s younger brother Cruz expressed his hopes of a reconciliation when he was asked about the fallout on Thursday while out in Paris with his girlfriend Jackie Apostel.

One post he did respond to was Nicola’s after she shared a gushing birthday message to him with a notably pink-themed tribute to her Instagram grid

The musician, 21, was quizzed by a reporter if he had a message for Brooklyn as he celebrated his 27th birthday this week.

He simply replied: ‘Happy Birthday.’

When the TMZ reporter asked Cruz if he had spoken to him at all, he did not respond, though did say he ‘hoped to’ repair his fractured relationship with his sibling.

Brooklyn failed to publicly reach out to Cruz on his milestone 21st birthday last week and snubbed his birthday message this week.

One post he did respond to was Nicola’s, after she shared a gushing birthday message to him with a notably pink-themed tribute to her Instagram grid.

The American actress, who is taking on her most ambitious role yet as a ballerina in Prima, has been leaning into the traditional baby pink associated with the dance and its costume in her recent social media posts.

And Brooklyn’s birthday post did not veer from the pattern, as she treated her husband to pink doughnuts and flowers on the day.

Brooklyn, who was apparently disheartened by his parents’ ‘performative’ birthday tributes, was even fittingly dressed in a pale pink jumper to match the surroundings.

In keeping with the theme, Nicola was also wearing a baby pink top to match, in a cosy picture she shared of herself and Brooklyn cuddled up on the day.

Captioning the post, she wrote: ‘Happy birthday baby… I hope all your dreams and wishes come true! you light up every room you walk into and anyone who knows you loves you… you’re the most special human and I love being your wife. I love you I love you I love you.’

Responding to her birthday tribute, he wrote: ‘I love you baby girl.’

Nicola appeared to have something special up her sleeve for Brooklyn, with the actress gifting him a box of twenty one iced doughnuts, individually shaped to read ‘Happy Birthday Brooklyn’.

The influencer was also confronted by a mountain of gifts, thoughtfully presented in Cloud 23 wrapping paper – a reference to his popular hot sauce brand, ironically named after his father’s shirt number at Real Madrid and Los Angeles Galaxy.

Now based in the United States with his actress wife Nicola, Brooklyn recently outlined his desire to distance himself from his family in a six-page Instagram statement filled with lurid allegations.

Addressing social media followers in January, he claimed his parents had tried to sabotage his marriage and have always prioritised public branding over their family relationships.

‘For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family,’ he wrote.

‘The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.’

He added: ‘Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.’

Brooklyn Beckham’s statement in full

I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.

I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.

Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.

My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped. My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress.

Weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children.

They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated. My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since.

During the wedding planning, my mum went so far as to call me “evil” because Nicola and I chose to include my Nanny Sandra, and Nicola’s Naunni at our table, because they both didn’t have their husbands. Both of our parents had their own tables equally adjacent to ours.

The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was “not blood” and “not family.” Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, I’ve received endless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, that were sent to the press on their orders.

Even my brothers were sent to attack me on social media, before they ultimately blocked me out of nowhere this last Summer.

My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song. In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead.

She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life. We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.

My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.

Despite this, we still travelled to London for my dad’s birthday and were rejected for a week as we waited in our hotel room trying to plan quality time with him. He refused all of our attempts, unless it was at his big birthday party with a hundred guests and cameras at every corner.

When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn’t invited. It was a slap in the face. Later, when my family travelled to LA, they refused to see me at all.

My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family “love” is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it’s at the expense of our professional obligations.

We’ve gone out of our way for years to show up and support at every fashion show, every party, and every press activity to show ‘our perfect family.’ But the one time my wife asked for my mum’s support to save displaced dogs during the LA fires, my mum refused.

The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.

I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief. My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.

Cruz Beckham shares hope for reconciling with brother Brooklyn as he sends loving birthday message

Cruz Beckham said he hopes to repair his fractured relationship with his older sibling Brooklyn Beckham while chatting with TMZ on Wednesday in Paris, France.

The singer, 21, wished the media personality, who turned 27 that same day, a happy birthday on camera, four years after rumors of a familial strife began swirling in 2022.

However, Cruz, who is currently on tour with his band Cruz Beckham & The Breakers, dodged questions about whether or not the two had recently spoken.

The artist thanked the reporter before crossing the street alongside his girlfriend Jackie Apostel.

Cruz and Brooklyn’s parents, David and Victoria Beckham, acknowledged Brooklyn’s special day on social media Wednesday, despite their estranged son’s no-contact ban.

“27 today 🥹 Happy birthday Bust 🤍. We love you x,” the athlete wrote on his Instagram Story beneath a picture of himself, the fashion designer and Brooklyn in a pool.

The Spice Girls member, 51, re-posted that same shot to her own Instagram Story, writing, “Happy birthday Brooklyn, we love you so much ❤️.”

David, 50, also posted a black-and-white pic of him with Brooklyn as a child, while Victoria added an image of her playing with their eldest child to her Story.

Brooklyn spent the day with his wife, Nicola Peltz, with the model showing off her display of gold balloons, flowers, presents and a box of pink donuts that spelled out “Happy Birthday, Brooklyn” via Instagram.

“Wow, that’s cool,” he gushed while eyeing his treats.

“You have to make a wish,” Nicola replied.

“Happy birthday, I love you,” she added. “I hope your wishes come true.”

“Aw, this is so sweet,” Brooklyn noted.

The British star’s birthday come two months after he allegedly asked his parents to only contact him through a lawyer.

At the time, the Daily Mail revealed that the aspiring chef reportedly said he also didn’t want David or Victoria to make public statements about him on social media.

“David was told to speak to them via [law firm] Schillings,” a source expressed to the outlet. “That was the only way for them to communicate.”

The Beckham family drama took a turn in January after Brooklyn wrote a scathing series of Instagram Stories declaring that he did not want to reconcile with his family, which includes Cruz, brother Romeo, 23, and sister Harper, 14.

He alleged that Victoria and David have tried to ruin his marriage to Nicola.

The couple tied the knot in 2022, with Brooklyn claiming that his mom “hijacked” his and the “Bates Motel” actress’s first dance and “cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour.”

David and Victoria have not publicly addressed the allegations, though Brooklyn’s siblings have tried to publicly make amends.

In February, Cruz posted a series of throwback shots with his brothers.

Then, on Valentine’s Day, Harper posted a shot of herself and three brothers, writing, “I love you all so much words can’t describe it.”

But despite the siblings’ kindness online, Brooklyn previously covered up his tattoo tributes to the Beckham brood.

The “Cookin’ With Brooklyn” star used to have Romeo, Cruz and Harper’s names on his fingers. In January, however, eagle-eyed fans noticed the ink is no longer visible.

Instead, Brooklyn is sporting a cloudy black-and-white design on the spot.

Despite having more than 70 tattoos in honor of Nicola, 31, the British entrepreneur also covered up his tribute to his parents.

Brooklyn replaced the word “DAD” in an anchor on his right arm with a starfish and life preservers. Now, a floral design covers up the “mama’s boy” on his chest.

Brooklyn has also appeared to have covered a “Mum” tattoo on his shoulders with a flower and dragon artwork.

Victoria Beckham Has A Short And Sweet Message For Brooklyn Amid Fall-Out Drama

Victoria Beckham has joined her husband Sir David in wishing their son Brooklyn a happy birthday, despite their eldest child no longer being on speaking terms with them.

Across several social media posts, he accused them of “performative” and “controlling” behaviour over the course of his “entire life”, as well as claiming that they had tried “endlessly” to “ruin” his relationship with his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham.

Neither Sir David nor Victoria has commented publicly on Brooklyn’s claims, but on Wednesday, the football legend shared an old family photo to commemorate his son’s 27th birthday.

After reposting her husband’s message, the former Spice Girls star then shared one of her own, writing alongside an old photo of herself and her son: “Happy 27th birthday Brooklyn, I love you so much.”

The morning after Brooklyn’s social media post confirming the fall-out, Sir David made an appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he dodged numerous questions about the family drama.

During a subsequent interview, he made a timely comment about social media use among young people, explaining: “I’ve tried [with] my children to educate them. They make mistakes. Children are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how they learn.

“That’s what I try to teach my kids. But you know, you have to sometimes let them make those mistakes as well.”

In the weeks before Brooklyn’s posts, it had been reported in the press that Sir David and Victoria had unfollowed him on Instagram, to which his brother Cruz Beckham made a public statement in retaliation.

“My mum and dad would never unfollow their son,” he insisted, before alleging: “They woke up blocked… as did I.”

A representative for Victoria also told People magazine around this time that it was “not true” that she had unfollowed Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Beckham issue solved by Kai Rooney after David and Wayne’s pressure

The footballing pressure placed on Brooklyn Beckham and Kai Rooney resulted in very different responses

Brooklyn Beckham and Kai Rooney had contrasting reactions when it came to dealing with the pressure of being sons of football icons.

David and Victoria Beckham’s eldest son Brooklyn turns 27 years old on Wednesday, while teenage Kai, 16, is the eldest of Wayne and Coleen Rooney’s four sons. Currently in the midst of a very public feud with his parents, it was in January when Brooklyn accused of his parents for dominating much of his life.

Once following in the footsteps of his Manchester United icon father, Brooklyn used to be part of Arsenal’s academy but walked away from football when he was 15 years old in 2014.

Now a business owner, Brooklyn’s struggle to deal with the sporting legacy his father forged led to him quitting football, which was previously revealed by the Inter Miami co-owner in a 2015 interview.

Speaking to ABC at the time, David said: “One of my boys turned around to me the other day and said, ‘Daddy, I’m not sure I want to play football all the time.’ “It broke my heart a little bit.

“He said, ‘Every time I went to the field, I know people are saying, ‘This is David Beckham’s son,’ and if I am not as good as you, then it is not good enough.'” In a 2022 interview with Variety, Brooklyn admitted turning his back on football was “sad”.

He said: “My dad wasn’t sad, because he was like, ‘I just want you to be happy.’ But of course, I was sad. It was my whole life since I was literally two.” Brooklyn’s inability to handle the pressure is a far cry from Kai’s circumstances.

The 16-year-old currently plays for Man United’s U18 team as his father – the club’s record goalscorer – casts quite the shadow given his historic legacy at Old Trafford. However, the illustrious career of Rooney is not hampering his son’s belief in himself.

While Rooney was primarily a centre-forward, Kai usually operates as a right-winger. Coleen spoke to the Mirror in September 2024 on the expectation placed on her children, Kai specifically, as she said: “We’ve never pressured them into even playing football. We’ve always just let them decide what they want to do.

“My eight-year-old was playing and doing really well but then decided he didn’t want to, and that’s OK. I think they sometimes get pressure off other people, you know. People approach them now and then if we’re out, they do say, ‘Are you are as good as your dad?’

“Kai says ‘I’m a different type of player.’ You’ve got to let them know that you don’t have to follow and to be your own person.”

David and Victoria Beckham’s tragic reality as Brooklyn celebrates birthday

The Beckhams have been rocked by a family rift that escalated with Brooklyn’s bombshell statement at the turn of the year

The feud ripping through the heart of the Beckhams makes it likely that David and Victoria will not be able to wish their son, Brooklyn, a happy birthday this year. Brooklyn, who turns 27 on Wednesday, caused a stir with a stunning statement he released in January.

After months of speculation about the state of the family’s relations, the couple’s eldest revealed his side of the story with a bombshell message via social media.

The Manchester United idol and former Spice Girl also reportedly received a lawyer’s letter from Brooklyn and wife, Nicola Peltz, last summer. It’s believed to have asked David and Victoria to cease communication with the pair and to even avoid mentioning them on social media.

The correspondence was merely a request and isn’t believed to have led to any action yet. However, Brooklyn has also blocked his parents online.

The strong actions taken by the 27-year-old could mean that David and Victoria will not be able to deliver any birthday messages to their estranged son, with various channels shut off for now. The rift came to a head after Brooklyn and Nicola failed to attend the former England captain’s 50th celebrations in London back in May 2025.

The shocking post on Brooklyn’s Instagram that followed months later claimed his superstar parents have been attempting to “ruin” his relationship with Nicola since they wed in April 2022. The post also alleged that he’s been subject to “relentless attacks” from them in the press.

The statement read: “I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.

“The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade.”

David and Victoria have yet to publicly respond to their son’s earth-shattering remarks. However, David confessed in a post marking Brooklyn’s 26th birthday last year that he yearned to see his firstborn son.

The former Real Madrid star wrote: “Happy Birthday Bust x we love you so much have the best day lots of cake and hot sauce, we miss you.”

The photograph depicted a young Brooklyn making silly facial expressions with his father. The 50-year-old even tagged his son and various other relatives in his message.

David Beckham showed his true colours with classy gesture for sporting legend

David Beckham rubbed shoulders with plenty of sporting superstars during his time in Los Angeles

Few England footballers have made as significant an impact beyond the pitch as David Beckham. The former Manchester United midfielder’s reach has extended far and wide, with his bold move to Los Angeles playing a key role.

Beckham signed for Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy in 2007 following a stint with Real Madrid. Throughout a five-year spell in MLS, he mingled with major Hollywood names as well as sporting icons from America’s ‘big four’ sports, while still making time to win trophies before retiring.

Among those sporting figures was Wayne Gretzky, a legendary name in ice hockey who starred for the Los Angeles Kings, among other teams. The Canadian had never been a big fan of football – the European variety, at least – but gained a newfound fondness when he and Beckham crossed paths.

The chance to see the former Manchester United star in action was only one aspect of it, though. Gretzky also has warm memories of the thoughtful gesture Beckham made towards his young son.

“When I was in LA, David Beckham came to LA,” Gretzky recalled when speaking to TNT Sports. “I did not know a lot about soccer and I said, ‘I have got to see this guy play.’ He was so incredible, it was so much fun to watch him play.

“And more importantly, my son, at the time he was eight, we went down to the locker room and he took my son around and got every player in the team to sign his jersey. So I have got a great deal of respect for athletes who are really nice and perform well under pressure also.”

Beckham turned out more than 100 times for LA Galaxy and ended his career as a winner of MLS Cup in 2012. Since hanging up his boots he has assumed ownership of his own expansion franchise, Inter Miami, who claimed the same trophy for the first time in 2025.

In the years following his encounter with the England icon, Gretzky’s passion for football has intensified. He participated in the draw for World Cup 2026, where his native country, Canada, will share hosting duties with Mexico and the United States.

Canada, managed by Jesse Marsch, have been placed in a group alongside Qatar, Switzerland and whoever wins the European play-off comprising Italy, Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Wales. England, for whom Beckham excelled at numerous World Cups throughout his playing career, will face Croatia, Ghana and Panama.
