“They need somebody like Jrue Holiday”: Fans react after Kawhi Leonard’s reported demand to Clippers front office comes to light

Kawhi Leonard’s move to the LA Clippers has yet to deliver results, with the forward struggling to make a sustained impact. Following their play-in loss to the Golden State Warriors, Leonard reportedly issued a list of demands to the front office as he continues his pursuit of another NBA title.

AP Hoops shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) highlighting Leonard’s reported stance, quoting Clippers writer Tomer Azarly, who first broke the story.

“Kawhi Leonard is expected to “apply pressure” to the LA Clippers’ front office to improve the team around him this offseason, per @TomerAzarly,” AP Hoops wrote.

“‘Can [Garland] get healthy? Can we get a big wing? Can we get a more mobile big man? … Kawhi is very comfortable [in LA] but winning is his highest priority.'”

Leonard’s reported requests drew reactions from NBA fans, with many supporting the forward and believing he could deliver with the right supporting cast.

@APH00PS @TomerAzarly He has to stay. All these years we have been asking for a healthy kawhi he has his best season been the clippers best play and now we wanna get rid WHEN HE IS HEALTHY. Now him being hurt is not the problem the problem is now we have a whole bunch of BUMS around him.

@APH00PS @TomerAzarly Hey Kawhi can rest up, he was a beast bringing them to the position to even be in the playoffs (First time in history) He already proved himself. Harden chokes and Paul George plays too slow. If they can get a great scorer and defender + a semi decent bench OOF.

Although many believe Leonard can lead the Clippers with the right personnel, others criticized the forward for his quiet demeanor and questioned his ability to lead a team at this stage of his career.

@APH00PS @TomerAzarly They need a leader. Kawhi is not a vocal. Always got his head down. They need somebody like jrue holiday

@APH00PS I want the clips to trade kawhi too but everyone switching up on him in the replies is crazy

@APH00PS @TomerAzarly KAWHI is in no position to demand anything! if he wants to leave lets pack his bags for him and show him the door! tired of this prima donna BS!!! Kawhi probably had his best season health wise as a Clipper and cant get this team to the playoffs!! Hard reset is needed…..

A two-time Finals MVP, Kawhi Leonard was expected to bring a monumental change to the Clippers upon his arrival. However, his time in Los Angeles has been marred by injuries and inconsistency, with the forward failing to get past the first round since 2021.

While he experienced one of his better seasons in Los Angeles this term, leading a 7-21 Clippers side to a 42-40 finish in the regular season, Leonard was unable to replicate that form in the play-in, as they suffered a 126-121 loss to the Warriors.

The forward finished with 21 points but was nowhere to be found in the fourth quarter, scoring just two points.

Kawhi Leonard gives cryptic response regarding his Clippers future

Kawhi Leonard will enter the final year of his three-year, $149,505,800 contract next season, leading many to believe there could be a potential move involving the forward.

Following his team’s exit in the play-in, Leonard was questioned about his future and provided a cryptic response.

“Let me cry about this loss a little bit more,” Leonard said (Timestamp: 1:16). “Um and you know we’re going to have our discussions when that time comes.”

Leonard remains a key player for the Clippers and is expected to return to the franchise next term as they continue to chase their first-ever NBA title.
