“Phill Collins isn’t one already?” – Fans react to The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announcing its 2026 inductees

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its inductees for 2026, with the likes of Phil Collins, Oasis, and Billy Idol making it to the list.

The list was announced on the April 13 (Monday) episode of American Idol, including eight new inductees. They were Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Oasis, Sade, Joy Division/New Order, Wu-Tang Clan, and Luther Vandross. To be eligible for this honor, artists have to have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they are inducted.

The final inductees every year are decided by a voting system, with over 1200 musicians, artists, and historians participating in the process. This year’s nominees included Shakira, Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey, and Jeff Buckley, among others.

Fans took to X to react to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, sharing mixed reactions. One X user wrote:

@PopCrave Phill Collins isn’t one already?

Some other fans also shared their thoughts:

@PopCrave Sade, Luther Vandross, and Wu Tang are NOT Rock!!! Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is AND should be for Rock and Roll ONLY!!!

@PopCrave So no Mariah, Lauryn Hill, or New Edition?? what was the point of that dumb ass voting then? 😭😭😭

@PopCrave How come @MariahCarey hasn’t been inducted yet?? 😑 This sounds weird and does not reflect well on the credibility of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Fans continued to share their thoughts on the list:

@PopCrave These are legendary names i think

@PopCrave The is huge. Phil Collins, Sade, the clan && Luther. Incredible

@PopCrave Why are they still calling it the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Why not just Contemporary Music Half Of Fame

In this year’s list, three new categories were also introduced, including Early influence, musical excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.

Veteran English rocker Billy Idol got candid about his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. It was the second nomination for the former Generation X frontman in two decades.

Speaking to Rolling Stone after the news of his induction went public, Idol spoke about how he found out about his inclusion.

“My manager told me a few days ago. I didn’t think it was affecting me much until I told Steve Stevens verbally on the phone, and I got quite emotional. It just shows you I do care about the honor. It’s incredible. It’s fanatic to get recognized by your peers in the music world.”

He continued:

“I’m just glad that we did it for the right reasons in the first place. We were already doing punk rock music before it exploded in England. We were doing it for the love, for the sheer love, for the few other people who were into it. And then it exploded after the Sex Pistols went on the [Bill Grundy] program. We never expected that. And then, boom, every record company in England wanted a punk rock group, and there we were.”

Billy Idol also revealed that he had dreamed about this moment since he was a toddler and “fell in love with rock and roll.”

“But I really did commit myself to this life, sort of a vocation. It’s something that I dreamed about doing since I was 7 years old and I fell in love with rock & roll. I was a fan of the music revolution we were growing up alongside. And then I got to push the glass myself when I was in Generation X in 1976.”

The official ceremony is set to be held on November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Fans can tune in to watch the recorded version of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Disney+ and ABC in December.
