Canon’s Explorers of Light Program Welcomes Four New Creators

Canon has added four new names to its long-running Explorers of Light program, continuing a tradition that spans more than 30 years. The initiative brings together established photographers and filmmakers who share their knowledge through talks, workshops, and events aimed at photographers of all levels.

This latest intake reflects a broad mix of disciplines, from fashion and weddings to sports and documentary cinematography. The goal remains consistent to bring experienced visual storytellers into a space where they can educate, collaborate, and support the next generation.

Four new Explorers of Light

The new additions are Dixie Dixon, Lindsey Conklin, Steve Sanders, and Bryan Gentry. Each comes from a different corner of the industry, with a strong focus on storytelling in their respective fields.

Dixie Dixon (Fashion, photography & cinematography)

Based in Texas, Dixie Dixon works across fashion, lifestyle, and commercial advertising, alongside directing film productions. Her client list includes brands like Disney and Virgin, as well as editorial and celebrity work.

She has also spent more than a decade teaching photography and authored Secrets of Fashion and Lifestyle Photography, a guide aimed at those looking to enter the industry. Her work blends commercial aesthetics with narrative-driven imagery.

Lindsey Conklin (Wedding cinematography)

Lindsey Conklin brings more than 20 years of experience in wedding filmmaking, with a focus on cinematic storytelling rooted in authenticity.

As co-founder of Le Rêve Films, he has filmed events across more than 20 U.S. states and over 10 countries, including high-profile and celebrity weddings. Her approach centres on documenting moments with care and intention, creating films designed to hold long-term emotional value.

Steve Sanders (Sports photography)

Steve Sanders has spent more than 30 years photographing the Kansas City Chiefs, covering everything from regular-season games to multiple Super Bowl victories.

His background spans weddings, portraits, food, architecture, and commercial work. Alongside his career, he has mentored emerging photographers, many of whom have gone on to lead teams and build professional careers.

Bryan Gentry (Cinematography)

Bryan Gentry is a New Jersey-based director of photography working across film, television, documentaries, commercials, and music projects. His work is known for its focus on lighting and composition to shape mood and narrative.

Recent projects include the Emmy-nominated documentary series Stax: Soulsville, USA and the feature documentary Luther: Never Too Much, which earned him a Black Reel Award nomination for cinematography.

Ongoing focus on education

A shared theme across the new additions is their involvement in teaching and mentoring. The Explorers of Light program has long included public appearances, seminars, and gallery events where members engage directly with audiences. That direction continues with these latest additions to the group. The mix of stills and motion specialists also reflects how the definition of visual storytelling continues to expand.
