“Increasingly ridiculous”: NASCAR fans slam ruling as Chris Gabehart restraining order extended amid JGR lawsuit
Judge Susan C. Rodriguez has extended Chris Gabehart’s temporary restraining order after JGR’s recent allegations at Bristol. NASCAR fans took issue with the ruling and hit back at JGR.
JGR recently filed a new declaration with images of Gabehart performing ‘competition director-related duties’ at Bristol. The team found it a violation of Gabehart’s TRO, but Spire boss Jeff Dickerson pushed back on those claims.
Thanks for the submission!
Dickerson filed his own declaration and called out JGR’s competition director, Wally Brown. He stated that Spire’s competition director, Matt McCall, was in attendance at Bristol, while Brown wasn’t present during practice and qualifying.
The co-owner also stressed that several other executives, including Hendrick Motorsports’ Jeff Gordon and Bill Anthony, were present at Bristol in similar executive roles, just like Gabehart.
NASCAR analyst Bob Pockrass shared an X post on the judge’s ruling.
Here are some fan reactions to the news:
“This dispute is becoming increasingly ridiculous. While I’m a JGR fan, it’s getting more and more annoying with each passing day. The sport doesn’t need any more negativity; it’s time to stop dragging everyone down. With Bristol’s viewership numbers dropping below 2 million, positive change is desperately needed on all sides. Negative news is never good news,” a fan penned.
“Just because the man had a radio on doesn’t prove anything!! Gibbs is getting paranoid in his old age. Chris has been honest from day one. Gibbs, has done nothing but try to tarnish his good name. Sad!!,” another commented.
“This is total B.S . never thought I’d see the day a car owner would try and ruin someones life.i hope chris wins. and he sticks it to joe gibbs. what garbage,” an X user said.
“All this is proving is how petty and mad Gibbs is and how good Gabehart is,” someone wrote.
“JGR and Toyota are worse than the crooked government. Prove me wrong,” a fan wrote.
Chris Gabehart currently serves as Spire Motorsports’ Chief Motorsports Officer, overseeing the team’s operations across all three National Series. He’s been embroiled in an $8 million federal data-theft lawsuit filed by JGR, alleging he stole sensitive information during his transition to Spire.
Chris Gabehart responds to JGR’s ‘improper’ Bristol allegations
Chris Gabehart’s legal defence filed a declaration in response to JGR’s Bristol claims. The legal team asked the court to disregard JGR’s claims, since it’s commonplace for executive-level employees like Gabehart to be present during race weekends.
“It is an improper attempt to introduce surveillance photos as evidence outside the briefing schedule. Unable to substantiate its claims, JGR has resorted to stalking Mr. Gabehart at racetracks, then rushing to this Court to spin routine behavior into suggested misconduct,” Gabehart’s defence stated.
Chris Gabehart echoed the sentiment in a personal statement, noting that it’s routine practice to be in close proximity to on-track activities.
