Night One of WrestleMania 42 ended on a shocking note as Cody Rhodes retained the Undisputed WWE Championship after Randy Orton betrayed Pat McAfee in the main event. The result also means that we have most likely seen the last of McAfee in the pro wrestling industry.

Pat McAfee made his return to WWE on the road to WrestleMania 42 as he was revealed as Randy Orton’s mysterious caller. The sports analyst declared that if Orton lost at WrestleMania 42, he would leave the professional wrestling business for good. While the 38-year-old tried his best to help the Legend Killer pick up the win, the latter turned on him during the main event and took him out with an RKO. This allowed Cody Rhodes to hit Orton with a Cross Rhodes and secure the win.

The result means that Pat McAfee is now done with WWE and professional wrestling as a whole. The 38-year-old himself promised the same, and with his alliance with Orton coming to an end on Night One of WrestleMania 42, there is nothing left for him to do in the company.

What else happened on Night One of WWE WrestleMania 42?

In addition to Randy Orton’s shocking betrayal of Pat McAfee, Night One of WrestleMania 42 also saw multiple title changes and returns.

We saw Paige, Bianca Belair, John Cena, and Bron Breakker make their returns to the global juggernaut. While Paige replaced Nikki Bella in the Women’s Tag Team Championship match, John Cena returned as the host for the Showcase of Immortals. Bron Breakker made his comeback during the Seth Rollins-Gunther match, taking out The Visionary. Bianca Belair, meanwhile, returned to announce pregnancy.

There were also multiple title changes on the show. Liv Morgan defeated Stephanie Vaquer to become the new Women’s World Champion, while Becky Lynch reclaimed the Women’s Intercontinental title from AJ Lee. Paige’s return was also a successful affair as she and Brie Bella won the Women’s Tag Team Championships.

The main event was the longest match of the night, where Cody Rhodes retained his Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton. However, the American Nightmare’s victory celebration was short-lived as he was attacked by Orton after the match. The Legend Killer even took out his former protege with a Punt Kick. The feud between the two is likely to go on, this time without the presence of Pat McAfee.
