Starting on April 27, a second GO train will travel from Union Station in Toronto to the Kitchener GO station on weekday mornings.

The train will leave Toronto at 8:49 a.m. and arrive in Kitchener at 10:26 a.m., Metrolinx says on its website.

As well, a new eastbound afternoon trip will be added as of April 27, leaving Kitchener at 3:43 p.m. and arriving in Toronto at 5:17 p.m.

“Schedules are adjusting to better reflect actual travel times across our entire network on all lines,” the update from Metrolinx said.

“Some trips will depart up to two minutes earlier or later, depending on the station you are departing from. Be sure to check schedules before you travel.”

Metrolinx noted the lengths of trains may also change.

Hopefully it is a sign of more service to come’

Regional Coun. Matt Rodrigues posted the news to the social media website Bluesky and said the new trips “are very welcomed options for riders.”

Our community has long been calling for two-way all day GO train service. The introduction of more express train trips that allow riders in the GTA to get to Waterloo region, and vice versa, outside of peak commuting hours is a welcome change,” he told CBC News.

“Hopefully it is a sign of more service to come as the necessary infrastructure changes are made by the Province and Metrolinx.”

The province has not provided a firm timeline for when two-way, all-day GO train service would be available to riders from Waterloo region, but it has noted work is being done to eventually be able to provide it.

In November, Metrolinx started weekend GO train service between Kitchener and Toronto, which local transit advocates celebrated with special trips into Toronto to mark the first day of weekend service.
