Manchester United get huge Luis Enrique update in next manager search

Manchester United-linked Luis Enrique is reportedly close to signing a new deal as Paris Saint-Germain manager. The Reds are still searching for a new permanent head coach after Ruben Amorim was sacked on January 5.
Interim boss Michael Carrick has enjoyed an impressive stint in temporary charge at Old Trafford with United on course to qualify for the Champions League. Carrick’s side sit third in the Premier League table and are seven points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea, who sit just below the final qualification spot for Europe’s elite competition.
But the Reds are still considering who will take charge beyond the summer with Enrique, Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola among the names linked. However, The Telegraph report that former Barcelona boss Enrique is set to stay at PSG and talks have progressed on a new deal at the Parc des Princes.

It is claimed that the Spaniard will extend his stay in Paris until 2029 with the option for a further 12 months.
Enrique’s current contract runs until June 2027, and while there is reportedly no rush to secure a new deal, it is said that both parties are happy and keen to finalise his future.

The reports follow Enrique’s recent comments about his future in the French capital. The 55-year-old recently branded rumours that he had rejected a new contract at PSG as “fake news”.
He said: “These are rumours that always circulate at PSG.
“We are used to them, they are private matters and will remain so. There is a lot of ‘fake news’ and they will not destabilise either the players or the team.
“It’s normal to have talks, but they remain private. We know what we want, and that’s the most important thing. We are calm and relaxed.”
Enrique joined PSG in July 2023 and has enjoyed remarkable success at the French champions. The ex-Spain boss led the Parisians to a treble last season – including a first-ever Champions League title which included a 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the final.
PSG are on course to retain their European title this term after seeing off Liverpool 4-0 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.
The Ligue 1 side will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the last four.
