Man Utd handed instant verdict on Lisandro Martinez red card as Neville reacts
Manchester United were reduced to 10 men just minutes in the second half against Leeds United with Lisandro Martinez given his marching orders
Lisandro Martinez was shown a straight red card during Manchester United’s clash against Leeds United after pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair.
United were trailing 2-0 at Old Trafford when Martinez was given his marching orders.
Indeed, in the 56th minute, Martinez was penalised after appearing to pull Calvert-Lewin’s hair as the pair went up for an aerial challenge.
After it initially went unpunished, referee Paul Tierney was advised to go over to the pitch-side VAR monitor to have a closer look at the incident.
And, less than a minute later, Tierney decided to penalise Martinez for violent conduct and brandished the Argentine with a red card.
It left United to play with 10 men for the remaining 34 minutes of the game.
Delivering his verdict on Martinez’s red card, Gary Neville said while on co-commentary for Sky Sports: “You are not getting away with a hair-pull.”
Neville added: “Martinez is looking perplexed and confused. But a hair-pull results in a red card these days. He knew what he was doing.”
