Not only is it Valentine’s Day, it’s also Family Day on Monday and then Tuesday brings the start of Ramadan, Lunar New Year celebrations and Shrove Tuesday (aka Pancake Tuesday).

There’s lots of music this weekend. The Tonewheels perform as part of their February residency at The Boathouse in Kitchener Sunday afternoon and Julianna Riolino performs Saturday at Sonic Hall in Guelph.

Galentines Day Run (or walk)

Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Gaslight District, 64 Grand Ave. S., Cambridge

Sure, Saturday is Valentine’s Day, but this two kilometre fun run is for the ladies. Wear something fun, go at your own pace, and even get a race photo taken. The event is hosted by the River Rats Run Club and donations are being accepted for local organizations.

Hearts on Fire

Friday at 6 p.m.

Tapestry Hall, 74 Grand Ave., Cambridge

This Cambridge Symphony Orchestra performance will feature singing by Joey Nicoforo and Sara Papini. People can opt to enjoy a three-course meal or just the concert.

Halfway There

Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Elmira Theatre, 60 Arthur St. S., Elmira

Elmira Theatre Company presents this Norm Foster play about Sean, a heartbroken doctor who moves to a small Nova Scotia town where no one is able to keep a secret for very long. 

If you can’t make it this weekend, the play runs next weekend, too.

Family Day

There are so many events for Family Day, it’s hard to pick just one to highlight, so here are a few options on Monday:

  • Family Day Carnival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum in Kitchener. Tickets are required for the shadow puppet show. Also experience a balloon twister, stilt walker, carnival games and snacks.
  • Family Day at the Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kitchener Market. Activities include a percussion petting zoo, Spiderman, live entertainment, balloon animals, face painting and a vendor scavenger hunt.
  • Free outdoor screening of Angry Birds at 1 p.m. at The Gaslight District in Cambridge.
  • McDougall Cottage from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 89 Grand Ave. S. in Cambridge will have free admission and people can enjoy hot chocolate, treats and explore the cottage.
  • Messy Makers from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Schneider Haus in Kitchener lets young ones tinker, create and build and also enjoy a Funfetti cookie.
  • Pancake Day Community Celebration from 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Centre, 15 Michael St., Kitchener. There’s a celebration similar to Pancake Tuesday in Ukraine called Maslyana and it falls on Feb. 16. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time or at the door.
  • The K-W Titans face the Lebanon Leprechauns at 3 p.m. with pre-game activities starting at 2 p.m. Fans can enjoy interactive stations and family-friendly activities before the game, contests at halftime and then stick around after the game to meet the players and get signatures and photos. 
  • Skating, swimming, crafts, games and more will run 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the West End Community Centre in Guelph.
  • Balance and Respect: The Haudenosaunee Way runs 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus. It features Kevin Sandy, CEO and director of Cayuga Nation, Wolf Clan who will talk about the cultural importance of lacrosse.
