England v Spain live: Latest score and updates as Lionesses face rivals

OVER THE BAR! England 1-0 Spain

‘7: Spain now win a corner of their own but England fare slightly better with that, as it goes out for a goal kick.

Now the Lionesses build: Stanway charges down the pitch and lays it off for James, who rounds her defender with ease but blasts over the bar.

GOAL! England 1-0 Spain

It was chaos in the box but Russo’s touch while on the ground to flick the ball up for Hemp was remarkable! Spain appeal, but the whole ball crossed the line! The referees looked very unsure so thank goodness for goal line technology.

GOAL! England 1-0 Spain

Greenwood whips in the cross. It bounces around the box and Spain fail to clear – Russo knocks it down and Hemp is there with an acrobatic kick on the turn to score!

Spain have a real fumble at the back and want to argue against it, but it clearly crossed the line, and goal-line technology confirms it.

Wembley close to a sell-out for England v Spain clash

Over 73,000 tickets have been issued for tonight’s match. England have lost just one of their last 11 games played at Wembley – a 4-3 defeat to Germany in October 2024 – while the Lionesses have not lost a World Cup qualifier at home since October 2002.

They have won 22 games, drawing two, but have not faced a calibre of opponent such as Spain.

Cheers and hugs for Mary Earps on England retirement celebration

There are loud cheers as Mary Earps is presented with a framed shirt and bouquet of flowers on the pitch at Wembley to celebrate the former England goalkeeper and mark her contribution to the Lionesses. The Euro 2022 winner also received a warm hug from Leah Williamson, Lucy Bronze, Keira Walsh and Alessia Russo, as England headed off the pitch at the end of their warm-up. Sarina Wiegman wanted Earps to get the send-off she deserves and there were not any boos following her comments about Hannah Hampton published in her autobiography All In.
