A swath of communities along central Alberta’s eastern slopes are expected to get walloped with a wintery snowstorm today.

Environment Canada has issued a series of snowfall warnings for communities in west-central Alberta, including Grande Cache, Hinton and areas across the Municipal District of Greenview.

Heavy snow is expected Tuesday and Wednesday, with total amounts between 20 and 35 centimetres.

Spring in Alberta? Not so fast

Environment Canada is forecasting snowfall for much of northern Alberta and the Rocky Mountains. As Travis McEwan reports, it comes as many Albertans are ready to move on from winter.

According to Environment Canada, the snow will begin Tuesday morning and continue through Wednesday evening.

The heaviest snowfall is expected near the community of Grande Cache, 430 kilometres west of Edmonton, including parts of Highway 40.

Drivers are advised to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

Travel will likely be challenging with poor visibility throughout the region, Environment Canada cautioned.
