A Baby Sea Lion Rescued In San Francisco Is Now Safe And Receiving Expert Care – World Animal News

A young sea lion pup found alone in the early morning hours in San Francisco has been safely rescued and is now in the care of marine mammal experts, receiving specialist support.

The pup, named Irving after the street where they were found, was seen resting on a sidewalk in the Outer Sunset neighborhood just a short distance from Ocean Beach. At only around 10 months old, they were likely separated from their mother and became lost.

Officers and marine mammal responders quickly arrived on scene, safely securing the pup and transporting them to The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito for evaluation.

Veterinary teams are now caring for Irving and carrying out a full health assessment to better understand their condition and needs. Young sea lions at this age are still developing essential survival skills, making early intervention especially important.

While occasional wandering can occur in juvenile sea lions, sightings far from the shoreline remain uncommon and highlight the risks young animals face in urban coastal environments.

With expert care now underway, Irving is in good hands and on a hopeful path toward rehabilitation and eventual release back into the wild.
