Police in Amherst, N.S., are turning to the public for tips after a man was shot on Prince Arthur Street on Monday evening and later died from his injuries.
According to a Facebook post by the Amherst Police Department, a report was made at 6:51 p.m. about a man who appeared to be “seriously wounded and sustained a single gunshot wound.”
“Those responsible fled the scene in a vehicle after the incident,” police said in an update on Facebook.
“Shortly afterwards, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.”
The police said they have no reason to believe there is further risk to the public.
In response to concern in the community, the Cumberland Homelessness and Housing Support Association said in a Facebook post that the shooting happened near its facility, but that its staff and guests were not involved.
“We are working closely with Amherst Police Department. Staff and guests of CHHSA were not involved in the incident, however are deeply impacted by the proximity to our shelter,” the post read.
“We will do our best to keep our community informed as appropriate. At this time, we are still gathering information and will not speculate on details.”
