Whitehorse RCMP say a man has been charged in connection to a fatal two-vehicle crash on the Alaska Highway last year.

The charges come after a six-month investigation.

The collision in September involved a City of Whitehorse transit bus and a delivery truck and happened at the intersection of Kathleen Road, near the Crestview subdivision.

Whitehorse resident Isaiah Brodhagen, 29, was killed during the crash. He was a passenger in the truck.

In a news release on Thursday, police say that Whitehorse resident Larry Chichak, 64, is now facing three charges under the Motor Vehicle Act — careless driving, failing to remain in a designated lane, and driving without a seatbelt.

RCMP told CBC News that Chichak was the driver of the Pacific Northwest (PNW) Freight Systems truck involved in the crash.

Police said earlier that a semi truck was involved, but RCMP confirmed Thursday it was a medium-duty delivery truck.

Police say the city bus had passengers aboard when the collision happened and that one of them suffered minor injuries.

The highway was closed for several hours following the incident. Several school bus routes had to be delayed or cancelled that day.

Chichak is expected to make a first court appearance on April 21.
