What is DSD in Bite By Night?
Bite By Night players had discovered a hidden effect in the game pertaining to the Killers, which has been dubbed DSD. Short for Decreased Stamina Drain, this effect causes a Killer to lose less stamina for a short while upon dealing damage. DSD is a play style-defining mechanic, where certain Killers like The Rotten can massively benefit from the reduced stamina consumption.
Here’s a complete breakdown of DSD and how it can be of great help for Killers in Bite By Night.
An overview of DSD in Bite By Night

In this experience, Survivors have a baseline stamina stat of 100 as opposed to the Killers’ 70 points. The 30-point disparity between these stat lines means that in a regular chase, the Killer’s odds of catching up to the Survivor are fairly low. Unless the Killer employs entrapping strategies, they are unlikely to reach their target, eventually causing them to lose the match. That is where DSD comes into play, tipping the scales in the Killers’ favor.
DSD, also known as Decreased Stamina Drain, is a mechanic where Killers receive a reduced stamina drain bonus upon hitting a Survivor. This bonus only lasts for a few seconds, but it is enough to make up for the 30 stamina point disparity. As such, it is an invaluable tool in the Killers’ arsenal, potentially being the deciding factor in the match. Stamina-intensive Killers like The Rotten can make great use of this mechanic to gain the upper hand, incentivizing offensive gameplay.
This mechanic was not explained in-game, meaning its effects were hidden. It was discovered rather recently, and brought to the attention of the players. Prior to the QoL + New Content update on April 7, 2026, DSD reduced the Killer’s stamina drain from 10 points per second to five points per second. With the advent of the aforementioned update, however, the mechanic was removed, putting the Killer archetype at a severe disadvantage.
Taking note of the disrupted game balance, the game’s creators re-added DSD with a hotfix. The mechanic has been rebalanced to keep the odds of winning between the Killers and Survivors more or less even.
