Moses Itauma ‘guaranteed’ fight by WBA heavyweight champion if he ‘demolishes’ Franklin | Boxing News

Moses Itauma could soon find himself with a world title opportunity.

The 21-year-old has dominated throughout his short professional career so far, winning all 13 of his fights, 11 of those coming by knockout.

He has defeated the likes of Dillian Whyte, Demsey McKean and Mariusz Wach, and returns to action later this month when he takes on former Anthony Joshua and Whyte foe Jermaine Franklin at Co-Op Live in Manchester.

Many fans believe that with a victory there, Itauma may be close to earning a crack at world honours, and it could come earlier than expected after a callout from the team of reigning WBA Regular heavyweight champion Murat Gassiev.

Speaking to Boxing Social, Gassiev’s promoter Al Siesta declared his interest in a clash against Itauma, who is ranked number one with the sanctioning body.

“Gassiev is in camp now and hoping to fight end of June, beginning of July. We are negotiating with a few of the credible heavyweights.

“Our good friend Moses Itauma, who tried to disrupt the situation with Gassiev fighting Pulev. I love Itauma, I think he’s a great talent, but let’s see what he can do to Jermaine Franklin.

“If he can beat him in an exemplary manner and demolish like he always does then why not. Gassiev will not be shy in fighting him, I guarantee you that.”

After reigning as cruiserweight world champion, Gassiev moved up to heavyweight and won the WBA Regular belt with a sixth round stoppage of Kubrat Pulev back in December, and a clash against Itauma would certainly interest a lot of boxing fans.

Whether or not the Russian will be in the Brit’s plans remains to be seen – there is potential for the full WBA and IBF titles, held by Oleksandr Usyk, may soon become vacant. If so, one of those belts would trump what Gassiev currently boasts.
