Two people in Iqaluit have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a man in the early hours of Friday morning.
In a news release Saturday, Iqaluit RCMP said 24-year-old Kendra Amaaq and 19-year-old Owen Amaaq of Iqaluit have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and being disguised with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Police responded to a report about a disturbance at a home in the 300 block of the city just after 12 a.m. Friday, the release said.
Officers found a man with life-threatening injuries, and he was taken to Qikiqtani General Hospital where he died.
The release said the two will remain in custody, and are scheduled to appear in court on May 5.
Iqaluit RCMP said it will not be releasing further information, as the matter is now before the courts.
