Two elderly people have been taken to hospital after a fire at an East York apartment.

Toronto police were called to Cosburn Avenue and Linsmore Crescent just after 9 p.m. for reports of a fire in an apartment above a business.

The building was evacuated and two people, a man and a woman, were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Roads in the area were closed but have since reopened.
