Washington Spirit fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Emma Hayes, the coach of the U.S. Women’s soccer team, said star forward Trinity Rodman is “fine” after leaving Sunday’s SheBelieves Cup win over Argentina with an apparent back injury.
Rodman fell to the ground at the end of Sunday’s match, grabbing at her lower back while receiving attention from medical staff. She ultimately left the game and did not return.
“Trinity Rodman is fine and training today,” Hayes said Tuesday.
The Spirit’s 23-year-old superstar missed four months last season due to nagging back issues. She returned late in the season and was named the NWSL’s Player of the Month in September.
Rodman was then hampered by an MCL strain as the Spirit’s championship push ended with a loss in the final against Gotham FC. The highest-paid player in the NWSL, Rodman has been a full participant in training with the Spirit, who open their regular season on March 13.
The SheBelieves Cup, a tournament that features four top national teams, continues on Wednesday. Rodman and the Americans square off against Canada while Argentina plays Colombia.
