Nova Scotia-based actor Mike Smith of Trailer Park Boys has pleaded not guilty to one count of sexual assault.

Smith’s lawyer, Stan MacDonald, appeared on his client’s behalf Thursday in a Dartmouth, N.S., courtroom, where he told the judge that Smith had instructed him to plead not guilty to the charge.

The actor’s trial in provincial court is scheduled for three days in early October.

Smith was charged last October in relation to an alleged sexual assault in December 2017 in Dartmouth. The female complainant’s identity is protected under a publication ban.

Court documents do not provide details of the allegations.

The actor is best known for playing Bubbles on the long-running television show.
