Thomas Frank sacked by Tottenham as head coach after just eight months into tenure: ‘Change is necessary’

Tottenham are really struggling with their domestic form and are on an eight-match winless streak in the Premier League which is their longest in more than 15 years.

Tottenham Hotspur have decided to part ways with Thomas Frank as head coach of the club less than 24 hours after the Spurs went down against Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Tottenham lost to Newcastle 2-1 at home to continue their dismal domestic form. They now sit just five points above the relegation zone in the Premier League standings and are already out of the FA Cup and League Cup.

Frank’s ouster comes just 10 days ahead of the North London derby at home against current Premier League leader Arsenal.

Tottenham say change is needed

The Spurs explained their decision to sack Frank on social media saying that the club thought change was needed at this point.

“The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” Tottenham posted on Wednesday.

“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary,” the club added.

The sacking of Frank comes after a dreadful run of recent form for the North London side who have now not tasted victory in their last eight Premier League matches. This is their longest such streak since 2008. In fact, in last 17 matches in the league, the Spurs under Frank could only collect two victories.

The Spurs were knocked out of the League Cup in the fourth round while in FA Cup, their run ended in Round 3.

However, in the Champions League, Tottenham earned five wins in eight games to finish fifth in the league phase and directly qualify for the Round of 16.

“Throughout his time at the Club, Thomas has conducted himself with unwavering commitment, giving everything in his efforts to move the Club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future,” the club concluded in its parting statement.
