John Hannah reunites with Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz in The Mummy sequel

Jonathan Carnahan returns in The Mummy sequel, played by John Hannah again. His character was always a bit sketchy, always looking out for himself. That’s how he showed up in the earlier movies, too. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reprise their roles as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell. The trio last shared screen time in the early 2000s. This coming together feels like a big moment for the series.

Brendan Fraser’s Rick was a treasure hunter chasing relics. Weisz’s Evelyn was a librarian with a strange interest in old things. She found buried knowledge just by asking questions. Jonathan often ended up caught between survival and profit. The sequel will follow these characters, staying close to their interactions. Their dynamic was what made the original films work. It’s central to what fans loved about them.
