Robert Pattinson And Zendaya’s The Drama Accused Of ‘Diminishing’ A Serious Issue

Warning: This articles contains spoilers for The Drama.

Going to see The Drama, the new flick starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, may initially feel like sitting down to a typical romantic comedy.

The film’s marketing revolves heavily around the idea of a gorgeous wedding, surrounded by loved ones, until the bride-to-be reveals a secret a few days before she and her fiancé are set to get married: When she was 15, she planned to carry out a school shooting.

After another mass shooting happened the same day, though, Zendaya’s character, Emma, ultimately didn’t go through with her plans.

Production company A24 has been coy about the big secret in all of its promotional materials, and viewers are given no forewarning as they settle into their seats about the subject matter that is about to play out onscreen.

The trailer suggests that Emma committed a serious faux pas — but one that might simply reflect a quirk of her personality.

In fact, the only way a moviegoer would know about the big twist is if they had already seen spoilers online, where critics have congregated to question the movie’s whole premise.

Melissa Alexander, whose two kids survived the 2023 Covenant School shooting that left three other children and three adults dead, knew about the plot twist going in.

Still, she walked out of the cinema before The Drama was finished. The film gave her a nightmare later that night.

Alexander saw the movie Friday night with another Covenant mum in a cinema less than a mile away from the Tennessee school, and the pair walked out about two-thirds of the way in, as Charlie is talking to his friends about Emma’s past.

In the scene, Charlie wonders aloud, given that mass shootings are such a prevalent problem in America, whether there may be a bunch of people who think about committing such a crime but never go through with it.

“There’s not just a bunch of normal people walking around thinking about doing something like this,” Alexander told HuffPost. “It’s a specific type of person. And to diminish it down to everyday people just really annoyed me.

“If somebody is watching this movie, who has some sort of ideations or thoughts about this, I think what it does for them is it helps to normalise it for them.”

An increasing number of Americans have first-hand experience with the terror of a mass shooting.

So far this year, there have been 32 shootings on campuses across the US, resulting in 15 deaths and 15 injuries, according to Everytown, a gun violence prevention organisation.

And there have been 99 mass shootings in America this year, which the Gun Violence Archive defines as at least four people shot, not including the shooter. Gun violence is the number one cause of death in teens and children; in 2024, then-U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy declared gun violence a public health crisis.

Emma explains to Charlie she was bullied in school and got caught up in the “aesthetics” of mass shooters – a definition she never really parses. The movie shows Emma, wearing dark eye makeup, posing with a rifle in front of her webcam. But after a nearby shooting leaves one of her classmates dead, Emma abandons her plans and instead joins her fellow classmates in advocating for gun control.

Later on, it’s revealed that Emma becomes so involved in gun control activism that she’s arrested for harassing Walmart employees for selling guns.

For Alexander, Emma’s motivating factor – bullying – felt oversimplified and woefully unrealistic. The person who killed six people at the Covenant School was not exacting revenge against peers for bullying: They were 28 and killed three nine-year-olds.

“These people are mentally ill, and they don’t just grow up to be a beautiful Hollywood actress like Zendaya,” she said.“That’s not a normal trajectory or the way somebody matures.”

Gun control activists have been among the film’s most vocal critics. One of them, Mia Tretta, was shot during the deadly 2019 mass shooting at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California, and also survived the recent deadly shooting at Brown University. She is an advisor for Students Demand Action, an organization of students advocating for the end of gun violence.

Tretta chastised The Drama’s filmmakers for treating school shootings as a “plot point”.

“It’s a reality I lived through when I was shot at my school at 15 years old, and again as a terrified student at Brown this past December,” she said in a statement to HuffPost.

“Using a planned massacre as a rom-com hook isn’t ‘starting a conversation’, it’s exploiting a crisis. There are ways to show nuance without using trauma as a gimmick. Studios and stars have massive platforms, and they should use them to give dimension to survivors, not perpetrators.”

Fred Guttenberg, whose 14-year-old daughter Jaime was murdered in the 2018 Parkland high school shooting, hasn’t seen the movie yet, but told HuffPost that he had hope for it given Zendaya’s past acknowledgement of his own activism. The actress once shared a clip of Guttenberg speaking at a Parkland vigil on Instagram.

But Guttenberg remains wary of any effort to explain away a mass shooter.

“Once somebody makes a decision to commit the act of gun violence, I don’t feel the need to humanise them,” Gutenberg told HuffPost.

March For Our Lives, an organisation started by victims of the Parkland massacre, wrote on X that the marketing for The Drama — as a dark romantic comedy — is “deeply misaligned” with the reality of school shootings.

During the press tour, Zendaya has played into cutesy matrimonial tradition, donning “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue”.

Zendaya has acknowledged in interviews that the movie has “many elements of a romantic comedy”, but called it “heartbreaking, disturbing to some, emotional, but also so much more than that”. Robert, meanwhile, has said it is “so romantic”.

Entertainment reporters appear to be helping preserve the film’s big twist, though, as the stars have not been pressed to answer for the controversy. Their discussions have instead focused more broadly on the relationship between Emma and Charlie, and the moral lines that people may draw – or not – when it comes to those closest to them.

“I think the movie is exploring more, like, your personal limit, and … the limits for how honest and how flawed you can be in your most private life,” Kristoffer Borgli, the 40-year-old Norwegian who wrote and directed The Drama, told the Popcorn Podcast.

There is little solid research into the minds of mass shooters. Two criminologists who spent a decade researching mass shootings told the US news show 60 Minutes that shooters often experience “horrific trauma” early in life, but can appear very normal in person, like “the kid sitting next to you in class”. They suggested overstigmatising shooters could lead people to believing there is nothing that can be done to help them.

Julia Moralez knows what it’s like to know someone before they reveal a horrifying secret. She knew the mass shooter who carried out the 2019 mosque shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand, that killed 51 people and injured 89 others. The shooter once lived with Moralez, who told HuffPost that when she knew him, he was “polite, kind and well-mannered”. But reports after the shooting revealed he was a white supremacist.

Moralez was initially interested in seeing The Drama, but once she read the spoiler online, she didn’t think she could.

“It seemed edgy for the sake of being edgy,” Moralez told HuffPost. “There were just things I didn’t like and felt exploitative to me personally. Even the title, The Drama, just making light of something that is a real-life situation for a lot of people … just doesn’t sit right with me.”

The film also goes against statistics that show mass shootings are typically carried out by boys and men. Emma’s gender is only briefly discussed in the movie when, during a class discussion on mass shooters, Emma corrects one of her classmates when they say that mass shooters are almost always boys. Emma chimes in and says that not only do girls do it sometimes, but mass shootings even happen outside of America, too.

But Moralez doesn’t see it that way.

“If you look at the numbers, it’s something that affects men,” Moralez said. “And I think that that’s something that needs to be looked at. And I think that twisting it to [be] a female issue, for the sake of a story, a good drama, is kind of belittling an issue that affects males, especially as someone who knows someone who shot and killed more than 50 people and live-streamed it.”

“I like Zendaya as an actor, but I’m kind of disappointed that she took this role because I don’t know, it just doesn’t seem right to me.”

Peaky Blinders Creator Admits He Ditched A Tom Hardy Twist From The Movie

The recently-released Peaky Blinders movie mixed familiar faces with some exciting new additions – but there were also a couple of notable absentees from The Immortal Man, too.

One such missing character was Alfie Solomons, played by Tom Hardy.

Alfie was famously thought to have been killed off in the BBC drama’s fourth season, only to shock Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby by returning in the fifth, with the character sticking around for the sixth and final run, too.

While Tom ultimately didn’t make an appearance in The Immortal Man, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has revealed that he did consider including him in a storyline that would have really shaken things up for Tommy Shelby.

“I didn’t do it in the end, but I had an idea,” Steven told The Hollywood Reporter, before pointing out: “Ever since he was shot on the beach at Margate, you’ve only ever seen Tommy and Alfie together alone. There’s never been anyone else.”

He continued: “I thought, ‘Maybe he appears, and we realise he’s been dead all that time’. Now, I nearly did that, and I didn’t do it, but that was a thought.”

Another missing face in the film was Tommy’s brother Arthur Shelby, played by Paul Anderson, who it emerged had been killed off screen by Cillian’s character before the events of the film.

Between the end of Peaky Blinders and the production on the movie, Paul became embroiled in some personal and legal dramas that are well-documented, though Steven was adamant that this wasn’t responsible for him not being included in The Immortal Man.

During the same Hollywood Reporter interview, the screenwriter explained: “What I’ll say is that the story determines the cast, and the story was set. I knew that Tommy needed to have done something that he couldn’t forgive himself for. Therefore, that’s why the plot went in that particular direction.”

He added: “In terms of Paul, all I’ll say is that he’s a fantastic actor.”

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is now streaming on Netflix.

Jennifer Garner Is Remaking 13 Going On 30 With A New ‘Magical Pairing’

With the last few years offering up a musical re-do of Mean Girls, a Legally Blonde prequel series, two Avatar follow-ups, a new TV adaptation of Harry Potter, a long-awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada and planned revivals of Pirates Of The Caribbean and The Lord Of The Rings, appetite for 2000s movies is clearly showing no sign of waning.

It’s now been announced that another classic from around the turn of the millennium is being given the remake treatment, with a new version of 13 Going On 30 in the works at Netflix.

The film’s original star Jennifer Garner will serve as an executive producer on the project, which will star People We Meet On Vacation’s Emily Bader and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower’s Logan Lerman as its romantic leads.

Director Brett Haley told Deadline: “13 Going On 30 is one of those rare, perfect films. Funny, emotional, deeply human, with unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo and Judy Greer.

“I’m a longtime fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility. Jennifer Garner being on board as an executive producer, after playing such a big part of what made the original special, is especially meaningful.”

He added: “I also couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Emily Bader after People We Meet On Vacation. She and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are a magical pairing. I feel incredibly lucky to be trusted with something that means so much to so many people.”

The original 13 Going On 30 centres around a teenage girl who is granted a wish to fast-forward to her life at 30 years old, with no memory of the 17 years that have passed.

Jennifer starred as Jenna Rink in the rom-com, with Mark Ruffalo playing her love interest Matty Flamhaff, while the supporting cast included Judy Greer, Andy Serkis and Phil Reeves.

13 Going On 13 is currently streaming on Prime Video.

Dwayne Johnson’s Wig In The New Live-Action Moana Trailer Is A Bit Of A Distraction

Following the mixed success of recent offerings Snow White, Lilo & Stitch and the Lion King prequel Mufasa, Moana is the latest animated Disney movie to be getting a live-action remake.

Less than a decade on from the release of the original animated movie, a new live-action version of Moana is hitting cinemas this summer – with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reprising the role of Maui from the original films for this latest take on the hit franchise.

On Monday evening, Disney shared a first-look trailer of the studio’s new spin on Moana, depicting the former WWE performer in character as Maui for the first time, having lent his voice to the demi-god in the original animated musical.

And while the reaction to the clip has been pretty mixed, one thing people are more or less unanimous on is the absolute jump-scare presented by Johnson’s hairpiece.

Yes, Johnson’s transformation into Maui includes a hefty body suit and a long flowing wig, the latter of which it’s fair to say that people aren’t exactly convinced by…

Hundreds of millions of dollars wasted so Dwayne Johnson can don a terrible wig and deliver the same lines but with worse timing. New low for the corporate slopmongers. Can’t even make it past the two min mark of this trailer, I don’t need to see anything from the last 19 seconds https://t.co/81kEzT6Zlc

— Schaffrillas (@Schaffrillas) March 23, 2026

The weirdest thing about Disney live action remakes is the entire film is still animated with the exception of close up shots of a handful of human actors lol https://t.co/y4KcUA7Xim

— CAMELCAST OFFICIAL (@CAMELCASTOff) March 24, 2026

Director Thomas Kail also opened up to Entertainment Weekly about transforming The Rock into Maui.

We knew that it had to be something that could have real lift to it,” he said of Johnson’s wig. “Because you’re doing this on the water, ‘what does it look like wet?’ is a real conversation when you’re making Moana.

“That one weighs seven pounds more with all the water in it for all those hours a day.”

Johnson added that one of the biggest unexpected challenges “that I had to work through very quickly” were presented by the prosthetics and wigs he wore in the movie.

“That is an additional 40 pounds on you,” he claimed. “There’s a freedom when you perform, whether it’s as an actor or singing. So that was an adjustment on how to actually work my emotions through the 40 pounds of prosthetics and hair and body that I had on me.”

Disney’s live-action Moana arrives in cinemas on 10 July.

Where You’ve Seen All The New Stars Of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man Before

Cillian Murphy has officially bowed out of his frontline role as Tommy Shelby in the Peaky Blinders franchise with the Birmingham-based blockbuster The Immortal Man.

The film transports us into the throes of World War Two, with regular faces from the TV series like Cillian, Stephen Graham and surprise returnee Sophie Rundle joined by a collection of new characters as they navigate Nazi plots and gangland Birmingham.

If you thought a few of the new additions looked familiar, here’s where you might have seen them…

Barry Keoghan

Barry Keoghan as Oliver Quick in Saltburn

One of the biggest stars of the moment, you’re probably most likely to know Barry Keoghan from his major breakthrough as bathtub-lurking wrong’un Oliver Quick in Saltburn.

He’s also starred in critically acclaimed films like The Banshees Of Inisherin (which landed him a Bafta award and an Oscar nomination), The Killing Of A Sacred Deer, Dunkirk, Bird and Bring Them Down.

Barry’s also no stranger to portraying a gangster, having also played one in the TV series Top Boy, while you might have also caught him in acclaimed miniseries Chernobyl.

Pop fans might also recognise him from his cameo in Sabrina Carpenter’s Please Please Please music video, filmed when the pair were dating.

Finally, if you have seen pictures of Barry with a Ringo ’do or moustache doing the rounds, that’s because he’s set to appear as the Beatles drummer in Sam Mendes’ upcoming musical biopic films.

Rebecca Ferguson has been a regular fixture on the big screen in both Sweden and Hollywood since her breakout as Ilsa Faust in Mission: Impossible, in which she starred opposite Tom Cruise.

Since then, Rebecca has appeared in the likes of Florence Foster Jenkins, The Girl On The Train, The Greatest Showman, Doctor Sleep, Dune and A House Of Dynamite.

TV fans might recognise her from BBC’s 2013 historical drama The White Queen, Apple TV+ sci-fi series Silo or The Red Tent.

Tim Roth is part of the “Brit pack” of British actors who broke into Hollywood in the 1980s.

Well-known for his collaborations with Quentin Tarantino – in films including Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and The Hateful Eight – he also picked up a Bafta win, and an Oscar nomination, for his role in Rob Roy.

His TV breakthrough came when he played the teen racist skinhead Trevor in Alan Clarke’s Made In Britain, after which he went on to appear in series like Twin Peaks: The Return, Tin Star and Last King Of The Cross.

Jay Lycurgo

DC Comics fans will recognise Jay Lycurgo for his work in the TV series Titans, in which he played Robin, but interestingly he also had a small role in the Robert Pattinson movie The Batman, too.

His other TV work has included I May Destroy You, Cheaters and Netflix’s The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself.

On the big screen, Jay appeared in another of Cillian Murphy’s projects, Steve, for which he won a British Independent Film Award.

Like Jay, Ruby Ashbourne Serkis appeared in Cillian Murphy’s Steve before being cast in the Peaky Blinders film.

She previously appeared in Apple TV+’s The Greatest Beer Run Ever, portrayed a younger version of Susan Lynch character in the hard-hitting drama National Treasure and played Amy Robsart in the historical drama Becoming Elizabeth.

Oh, and if you’re wondering about that surname, yes, Ruby is the daughter of fellow actors Andy Serkis and Lorraine Ashbourne, sharing the screen with her dad in the 2020 Netflix series The Letter For The King.

Zendaya Resurrects Iconic Red Carpet Look At Premiere Of Her New Film The Drama

Zendaya and her long-time stylist Law Roach dug deep into their archives when it came to dressing her for the premiere of her new movie The Drama.

The Emmy winner stars alongside Robert Pattinson in the new romantic drama, in which they play a seemingly happy engaged couple whose relationship begins to unravel thanks to a shocking revelation about the bride-to-be’s past in the run-up to their big day.

At the movie’s premiere on Tuesday night, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Zendaya was playing up to the film’s wedding theme (and, indeed, ongoing rumours about her own personal life) by wearing bridal couture on the red carpet.

However, upon closer inspection, the Vivienne Westwood dress is one she actually first wore more than a decade earlier at the 2015 Oscars.

Zendaya said her red carpet dress was her “something old”

“Who remembers this dress and all the headlines that came with it?” Law wrote on X. “Decided to go with SOMETHING OLD tonight.”

The first time Zendaya wore that white dress, she was much earlier in her career, and found herself on the receiving end of unkind comments from Fashion Police presenter Giuliana Rancic, who became embroiled in a racism row when she suggested that the star wearing her hair in locs made it look like she smelled of “patchouli and weed”

Zendaya first wore the same dress to the 2015 Oscars

Zendaya responded at the time: “There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair.

“My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of colour that our hair is good enough.

“To me, locs are a symbol of strength and beauty, almost like a lion’s mane. I suggest some people should listen to India Arie’s I Am Not My Hair and contemplate a little before opening your mouth so quickly to judge.”

Explaining why she chose to revive the gown, Zendaya told Variety: “I remembered the saying ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’. So, this is my ‘something old’.

“I thought I’d bring it back and give it new life.”

Bridesmaids’ Wendi McLendon-Covey Missed Oscars Reunion Due To ‘Neck Lift’ Surgery

Bridesmaids actor Wendi McLendon-Covey has shared the real reason she didn’t join her former co-stars at the Oscars over the weekend.

Over the weekend, the Bridesmaids cast took part in a skit at the Academy Awards to commemorate the film’s 15th anniversary.

However, fans quickly noticed that the group was one bridesmaid down, with Wendi not joining Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne and Ellie Kemper at the event.

At the time, director Paul Feig claimed: “I just heard that she was not available. She might even be travelling, I’m not sure. But we will miss her terribly, because I love Wendi.”

Since then, Wendi has set the record straight on her absence, revealing that she actually couldn’t attend as she is recovering from cosmetic surgery.

“In response to some of the DMs I’m getting: I had a neck lift last week because I’m tired of looking like a melting candle. So I had to skip the Academy Awards,” she told her Instagram followers.

“No drama. Everything is fine.”

In the years since her break-out performance as Rita in Bridesmaids, Wendi has appeared in hit shows like The Goldbergs and St. Denis Medical.

Rose Byrne attended this year’s Oscars as a nominee, off the back of her much-lauded performance in the dark comedy If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

Meanwhile, One Battle After Another was the big winner at the 2026 Academy Awards, written and directed by Maya Rudolph’s long-term partner, filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.

Upon its release in 2011, Bridesmaids was nominated for two Oscars, with Melissa McCarthy receiving an acting nod in the Best Supporting Actress category, and screenwriters Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo also landing a Best Original Screenplay nod.

7 Stars And Filmmakers Who Won Their First Oscars At This Year’s Ceremony

Excitingly, the 2026 Oscars saw a number of performers and filmmakers picking up those iconic gold statuettes for the first time – some of whom are relatively early on in their careers, and others who’ve been waiting a long time to win an Academy Award.

While One Battle After Another and Sinners were the two biggest success stories of the night, there were plenty of other movies whose cast and crew picked up awards during Sunday night’s ceremony.

Here are just seven first-time winners from this year’s Oscars…

Jessie Buckley

7 Stars And Filmmakers Who Won Their First Oscars At This Year’s Ceremony

After a clean sweep at awards season this year, Jessie Buckley rounded things off with a win in the Best Actress category for her performance in the heartbreaking drama Hamnet.

The Irish performer had one Oscar nomination to her name already this year, off the back of her work in the Maggie Gyllenhaal movie The Lost Daughter, in which she played the younger version of Olivia Colman’s character.

Michael B Jordan

The Best Actor category was one of the most open contests in the lead-up to the 2026 Oscars, but in the end, Sinners star Michael B Jordan beat stiff competition from Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Ethan Hawke and Wagner Moura to the prize.

Michael’s win was one of the night’s most emotional moments, following his performance as twins Smoke and Stack in the hugely popular musical vampire thriller.

Amy Madigan

Amy Madigan achieved something really rare at the 2026 Oscars, winning an Academy Award for playing a horror character, after stealing the show in last year’s Weapons thanks to her work as Aunt Gladys.

Before this year, Amy had earned one Oscar nomination previously, back in 1986, for the film Twice In A Lifetime.

Earlier this year, she broke the record for the longest gap between two nominations at the Academy Awards, joking on stage: “Everybody’s asking me in the press, ‘well, it’s been 40 years, what’s different about this time?’. What’s different is I got this little gold guy!”

Ryan Coogler

Back in January, Sinners made Oscars history when it received more nominations than any other film since the Academy Awards started.

While sadly, it didn’t end up becoming the night’s top winner when the ceremony came around, it did pick up a respectable four awards, including Best Original Screenplay for Ryan Coogler.

Ryan’s first nomination was in 2020 as a producer on the Best Picture nominee Judas And The Black Messiah, with another following two years later for his work on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

Paul Thomas Anderson

“You make a guy work hard for one of these!” Paul Thomas Anderson joked during his first speech at Sunday night’s Oscars, quickly adding: “I really appreciate it.”

It’s been almost 30 years since Paul was first nominated for an Oscar as the director of Boogie Nights, consistently racking up more nods for movies like Inherent Vice, Phantom Thread and There Will Be Blood, none of which translated into a win until this year.

Of One Battle Another Another’s six wins, half of them were for Paul himself, who picked up three awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Autumn Durald Arkapaw

One of Sinners’ wins was in the Best Cinematography category.

Not only was this Autumn Durald Arkapaw’s first time winning an Oscar, it was the first time any female artist has triumphed in this category, which was not lost on the creator, who invited all of the women in the room to stand up with her to commemorate the moment.

Joachim Trier

What movie fans might not realise is that the Best International Feature Film prize doesn’t just go to filmmakers, but to actual countries.

So, this year’s triumph for Sentimental Value marks the first time a Norwegian film has won in this category – technically marking the first time Norway itself has received an Oscar, as well as its director, Joachim Trier.

Check out the full list of winners from the 2026 Oscars here.

Michael B Jordan’s Best Actor Win Was The Big Moment At This Year’s Oscars

In the lead-up to this year’s Oscars, it looked like the Best Actor prize could have gone in one of several directions, after previous wins for Timothée Chalamet, Wagner Moura and Michael B Jordan at various awards shows over the last few months.

At Sunday night’s Academy Awards, it was Sinners star Michael who came out on top, in one of the night’s most memorable and emotionally-charged moments.

The US star was visibly stunned when his name was called by last year’s recipient Adrien Brody, first pausing to share the moment with his mum, who was seated to his right, before being wrapped up in a hug by Sinners director Ryan Coogler.

He and co-star Delroy Lindo then also shared a moment before Michael headed up to the stage to collect his award – but what really came across was just how much love there was for the Black Panther star from the whole auditorium.

Meanwhile, in his acceptance speech, he paid homage to the Black performers who have won Oscars for their leading performances in the past, name-checking Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker and Will Smith.

Michael B. Jordan just thanked all six Black winners in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories during his own Best Actor speech:

Michael played twins Smoke and Stack in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which made Oscars history as the most-nominated film ever at the Academy Awards.

In the end, it triumphed in an impressive four categories in total, but One Battle After Another was the year’s big winner, picking up six awards including Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson and the coveted Best Picture prize.

Sean Penn also won his third Oscar on Sunday night for his work in One Battle After Another (but didn’t attend to accept it in person), while the hotly-contested Best Supporting Actress went to Amy Madigan for Weapons, over One Battle After Another’s Teyana Taylor and Sinners’ Wunmi Mosaku, as well as Sentimental Value’s Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.

Meanwhile, Frankenstein came away with three technical prizes, and family favourite KPop Demon Hunters won two awards in total.

Anna Wintour Channels Miranda Priestly Presenting At The Oscars With Anne Hathaway

While her sense of humour is perhaps not the first thing that comes to mind when most of us think of Anna Wintour, she certainly managed to raise a smile while presenting at the 2026 Oscars.

Early on in Sunday night’s ceremony, the long-time Vogue editor came on stage to present two awards with Anne Hathaway.

Anne, of course, is the star of The Devil Wears Prada and its upcoming sequel, both of which feature the character Miranda Priestly, heavily rumoured to have been inspired by Anna.

Introducing the Best Costume Design prize, the Oscar winner told the audience: “A character’s costume is key to telling a story.

“One could argue that one’s wardrobe in real life is also key. Does it make one appear elegant and attractive on, say, the most important night in Hollywood, and say when the most important people in fashion will be judging how one looks?”

Turning to her co-host, she continued: “Anna, just curious, what do you think of my dress tonight?”

By way of response, Anna simply donned her sunglasses and declared: “And the nominees are…”

Following this, the duo then announced the winners for Best Makeup And Hairstyling, with Anna intentionally misnaming her co-presenter “Emily” in an even more explicit nod to The Devil Wears Prada.

In the original Devil Wears Prada film and the new follow-up, Meryl Streep plays Miranda Priestly, the editor of the fictitious Runway magazine, whose look and mannerisms have sparked comparisons with Anna Wintour for two decades now.

Last year, the award-winning journalist and Met Gala organised claimed: “I went to the [Devil Wears Prada] premiere wearing Prada, completely having no idea what the film was going to be about.

“I think that the fashion industry was very sweetly concerned for me about the film that it was gonna paint me in some kind of difficult light.”
