Stephen A Smith implores ‘addict’ Tiger Woods to ‘stop getting behind the damn wheel’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Tiger Woods is no longer getting the benefit of the doubt.

After his second DUI arrest in less than a decade, Stephen A. Smith implored the 15-time major champion, who he suggested as an “addict,” to “stop getting behind the damn wheel.”

“Compassion is running out for Tiger Woods. He got his money, he’ll never be poor, he’s fine, but you talk about somebody whose image has fallen off a cliff…” Smith began on his SiriusXM show on Monday. “My brother, you got issues with drugs, and I personally suspect… that it’s pain meds. I can understand that. What I don’t understand is this tendency to get behind the damn wheel of a car.

“You’re a billionaire, bro. You can afford car service. We are very fortunate that Tiger Woods hasn’t killed somebody yet… I’m not saying this to castigate and vilify Tiger Woods. Who doesn’t love Tiger Woods?… But how forgiving as a society are we supposed to be with this proclivity or tendency that you have to get behind the wheel of a car when you’re inebriated? Are we going to be satisfied until he kills somebody?”

President Donald Trump voiced his continued support for Woods, saying in a recent interview that the five-time Masters champion “lives a life of pain.”

“He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain,” Trump added Tuesday of Woods. “He doesn’t have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain.”

TIGER WOODS’ EX-WIFE, ELIN NORDEGREN, ‘CONCERNED’ AFTER DUI ARREST FOLLOWING ROLLOVER CRASH: REPORT

Shortly after the crash, Trump labeled Woods as a “very close friend of mine” with “some difficulty.” Woods dates Trump’s former daughter-in-law, Vanessa, the mother of the president’s granddaughter Kai.

Woods was arrested on Friday after crashing into another car while traveling at a “high rate of speed.” Woods’ car rolled over onto its driver’s side, and he had to escape out of the passenger door with the help of the driver he crashed into.

The five-time Masters winner was arrested on charges of driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit to a blood alcohol level (BAL) test after law enforcement said his vehicle collided with another vehicle Friday afternoon while he was driving impaired. Prescription opioids were found in his pocket.

According to the arrest affidavit, the pills were later identified as hydrocodone, a prescription opioid for pain relief.

Woods previously told law enforcement prior to the field sobriety tests that he underwent seven back surgeries and “over 20 operations on his leg.” He told law enforcement that “I take a few” prescription medications.

In 2017, he was taken into custody, also in Jupiter Island, after taking prescription drugs and being asleep behind the wheel of a running car at roughly 3 a.m.

Woods entered a not guilty plea on Tuesday and demanded a trial with a jury.

NBA player Jaden Ivey goes on social media rant after being waived amid comments criticizing pride month

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

NBA player Jaden Ivey went on a social media tirade after being waived from the Chicago Bulls on Monday. The Bulls claimed Ivey was waived for “conduct detrimental to the team” after he made comments critical of pride month, citing his Christian faith.

In a series of Instagram live posts, Ivey gave his thoughts on being waived by the Bulls.

“They’re liars, bro. This is lying,” Ivey said in one Instagram live. “They’re lying saying my conduct is detrimental to the team. That’s a lie. Ask any one of them coaches in there, ‘Was I a good teammate?’ All I’m preaching about is Jesus Christ and they waived me. They say I’m crazy, right? I’m psycho.

“They gonna try to stop me but I’m not, I’m going to keep speaking the truth. That’s why everybody around me turning their back on me because of my faith. I didn’t get myself waived. I was in the gym today, I was rehabbing, lifting, and doing what was required of me in my job… I could’ve quit on my own self but they kicked me out.”

Ivey later spoke about his addiction to pornography and how Christianity helped him overcome it.

“Before I came to the Lord Jesus Christ, the NBA was everything to me,” Ivey said in one livestream. “I didn’t know God. I didn’t know Jesus when I came to the NBA. I was a fornicator, I was a pornography addict and I used to get drunk. That’s all I knew. And after a win, and after all those points, I felt good… I felt like I had everything set out for me.”

Ivey also appeared to criticize Steph Curry and LeBron James, questioning their devotion to Christianity.

“That’s why you got Steph Curry… he don’t know Jesus, and I pray he comes to the truth, that him and his family be saved in Jesus’ name… ” Ivey said. “All them rings he got, all them rings LeBron got, all them rings Michael Jordan got, all them people in the Hall of Fame who don’t know Jesus Christ — No. It’s not gonna matter on Judgment Day if you don’t know Jesus and your name is not written in the book of life.”

Ivey’s video calling out the league was posted on Monday morning, as he said it was “unrighteousness” that the NBA would celebrate pride month.

“The world can proclaim LGBTQ, right?” Ivey said in that video. “They proclaim pride month and the NBA. They proclaim it. They show it to the world. They say, ‘Come join us for pride month to celebrate unrighteousness.’ They proclaim it. They proclaim it on the billboards. They proclaim in the streets. Unrighteousness. So, how is it that one can’t speak righteousness? Who are they to say that this man is crazy?”

Ivey also said in a different video that Catholicism was a “false religion,” which comes as a potential issue for Ivey’s mother.

Ivey was the fifth overall pick of the 2022 NBA Draft by the Pistons, who hoped he would be a key piece in their rebuild. He was solid to start his career, making the 2022-23 NBA All-Rookie team after averaging 16.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game, while shooting 41.6% from the field.

Ivey was traded to the Bulls as part of a three-team deal involving his previous Detroit Pistons and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He posted a career-high 17.6 points per game during the 2024-25 campaign, as the Purdue product looked to be hitting his stride.

Ivey played just four games with the Bulls, averaging 11.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game before his release.

Pelley: Leafs looking for ‘data-centric’ leader | Globalnews.ca

TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs will be looking to hire a “data-centric” visionary as they move on from a disappointing NHL season that led to the firing of general manager Brad Treliving.

Rick Campbell joins Edmonton Elks coaching staff | Globalnews.ca

Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment president and chief executive officer Keith Pelley faced the media Tuesday to answer for a season gone wrong and give an idea of how the Leafs will move on in an increasingly competitive Atlantic Division.

“They have to be data-centric,” Pelley said of whoever will replace Treliving as the head of Toronto’s hockey operations. “They have to really understand the importance of data and where data is moving.”

“Every single decision we make will be evidence based,” he added. “Evidence-based decisions are never wrong.

“That’s not to say there’s not room for the heart, that doesn’t mean there’s not room to check culture, but it’s evidence based.”

Story continues below advertisement

Pelley said the misfortunes of the Maple Leafs, who entered the day in third-last place in the Eastern Conference standings, could not be placed solely on Treliving’s shoulders.

But after firing him Monday following three seasons on the job, Pelley said the team must “chart a new course” under different leadership, calling Treliving a “good man” and an “excellent hockey executive.”

“The team is blessed with the best resources in hockey,” Pelley said. “I can emphatically tell you, with the greatest of confidence, that there are many teams competing next month in the Stanley Cup playoffs that their expenditures on hockey operations pales in in comparison to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“But without the right structure, without the right processes in place, without the right culture, without the alignment and accountability among everyone inside the operation, we will not be successful.”

Pelley said the search for the Maple Leafs’ new head of hockey operations will begin immediately, but assistant general managers Brandon Pridham and Ryan Hardy will share the duties on an interim basis for the rest of the season.

Pelley did not say whether the Leafs’ hockey operations would be led by a president, a general manager or a combination of the roles.

“There’s no right or wrong way to actually run it,” he said.

But perhaps Pelley can find clues from division rivals Montreal and Buffalo, two teams he lauded for making big leads this season.

“We definitely didn’t see the train coming, which was the Buffalo Sabres and the Montreal Canadiens,” Pelley said, adding they are young and energetic teams that are “going to be here for a long time.”

Buffalo entered Tuesday in second place in the Atlantic Division, tied on points with Tampa Bay, while the Canadiens were third while riding a five-game winning streak.

Treliving was hired by former Toronto president of hockey operations Brendan Shanahan after he handed Kyle Dubas his walking papers as GM in May 2023.

Treliving took over a top-heavy, high-priced roster led by Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander and John Tavares originally pieced together by Shanahan, Dubas and former GM Lou Lamoriello that was never able to get over the playoff hump. Dating back to 2017, Toronto is 2-14 with a chance to eliminate an opponent and 0-7 in winner-take-all contests, including 0-6 in Games 7s.

Story continues below advertisement

Pelley, who took over as president of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment in April 2024, declined to renew Shanahan’s contract after last season’s second-round playoff exit that was accented by consecutive 6-1 losses to the Florida Panthers on home ice in Games 5 and 7. Shanahan’s position in the hockey brain trust wasn’t subsequently filled.

Treliving’s tenure, meanwhile, will be marked by the loss of Marner — there was a window where the organization could have traded the hometown forward before his contract’s no-movement clause kicked in — and the high price paid for defenceman Brandon Carlo and centre Scott Laughton ahead of last season’s NHL trade deadline.

The Maple Leafs shipped prized forward prospect Fraser Minten, a top-5 protected first-round pick this June and a fourth-rounder last year for Carlo, a veteran blueliner yet to meet expectations. Minten is 21 years old and centring Boston’s top line in the middle of a playoff race.

A pending unrestricted free agent, Laughton was dealt to the Los Angeles Kings for a 2026 conditional third-round pick — much less than what Toronto paid 12 months earlier — at this season’s deadline.

Blue Jays pitcher Cody Ponce carted off with injury in first MLB start in 5 years

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Cody Ponce was carted off the field in his first MLB start since 2021 with an apparent leg injury.

Ponce, 31, sustained the injury while trying to field a bouncing ground ball between the pitcher’s mound and first base in the third inning of the Blue Jays’ 14-5 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Monday night at the Rogers Centre.

Ponce seemed to take a bad step and hobbled for a couple of strides before falling to the infield dirt. First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. immediately waved toward the dugout before Ponce crumpled to the ground.

Tiger Woods had ‘glassy’ eyes, pills in pocket during DUI arrest: police – National | Globalnews.ca

Tiger Woods had glassy eyes and opioid pills in his pocket when he was arrested by Florida police following a car crash on Friday, and told investigators with the Martin County Sheriff’s office he was distracted by his phone when the crash occurred, according to an incident report.

Rick Campbell joins Edmonton Elks coaching staff | Globalnews.ca

The golf star said he was looking down at his cellphone and changing the radio station, and didn’t notice that the truck in front of him had slowed down, the report said. He crossed lanes in order to overtake the vehicle and his Land Rover clipped the rear of the trailer attached to the truck, causing his car to roll onto its side, police said.

The driver of the truck, who has been identified as 43-year-old Jeromy Bullard, said he noticed a car approaching him at “high speeds” as he was manoeuvring onto the drive, it added.

The truck had about US$5,000 in damage to the rear-left fender and wheel of the trailer, the incident report says.

Woods, 50, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of an unknown substance and was described by police as “lethargic” after crawling out of the passenger door of his car.

Woods’ eyes were “bloodshot and glassy,” and his pupils were “extremely dilated,” the report said. Police stated that he was “sweating profusely” in an air-conditioned vehicle and “extremely alert” during their investigation.

The report also noted that Woods stumbled during a sobriety test, where he was described as “limping and stumbling to the right,” and as moving his head from side to side after being told to keep it straight.

He told the officer executing the field checks that he had seven back surgeries and more than 20 leg surgeries, and that his ankle tightens up when he walks.

Woods informed officers he had not been drinking alcohol, but that he takes a “few” prescription pills, which he had consumed earlier in the day, according to the report.

He advised that he takes medication for high blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as ibuprofen and Vicodin. Woods had hiccups during the entire investigation, the report noted.

Two white pills, determined by police to be hydrocodone — an opioid prescribed to treat chronic pain — were found inside his left pocket, according to the report.

Woods later submitted to a breath test at the jail but refused to do a urine test, authorities said. He was seen on video leaving the jail late Friday night.

Deputies said Friday they believed Woods was impaired by “some kind” of medication or drug at the time of the crash, but was cleared for driving under the influence of alcohol. There were no drugs or medication found in his vehicle.

The golfer was previously injured in a 2021 crash in Rolling Hills Estates in Southern California.

He was driving at twice the speed limit in a 45-mile-per-hour (74 kilometres per hour) zone when he lost control of his SUV and struck a tree, flipping the car onto its side.

Woods seriously injured his right leg in that crash and underwent multiple surgeries.

The golf star has played 11 tournaments since that 2021 crash, not finishing within 16 shots of the winner on any of the four occasions he completed 72 holes.

He was also arrested on a DUI charge in 2017 when South Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car that was parked awkwardly with damage to the driver’s side. Woods said he had taken a bad mix of painkillers. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

The Toronto Star reported the charge stems from an alleged altercation between coaches following an under-15 playoff game earlier this month involving the Markham Waxers and York-Simcoe Express. The teams’ websites list Grabovski as head coach of the Waxers and Cooper as head coach of the Express.

As a condition of his release, Grabovski is prohibited from contacting Cooper or going to any place Cooper is known to be.

The 42-year-old Grabovski played 340 games with Toronto from 2008-13 and 534 in the NHL overall with the Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Washington Capitals and New York Islanders.

He retired in 2019.

Grabovski has faced legal action in the past.

A civil suit filed in September 2010 in B.C. Supreme Court alleged he assaulted a couple during a confrontation in downtown Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics. Grabovski had been selected to play for Belarus but did not compete due to injury.

The case was dismissed by consent in March 2018 before reaching trial.

Tallest college basketball player ever, standing at 7-foot-9, entering transfer portal

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The average height of a men’s basketball program will increase significantly next season.

That’s because Olivier Rioux, the tallest college basketball player ever, is transferring out of the University of Florida.

The 7-foot-9 20-year-old announced his decision in an Instagram post, where he thanked his coaches for “believing in me, for trusting me, and for pushing me to develop every single day,” as well as “trainers, managers, and support staff.”

Rioux said he took time “to reflect on my jersey and what’s best for my future.”

“It’s truly hard to put into words what these last two years and this experience has meant to me. From being raised in the province of Quebec back home in Canada, to representing this incredible program, wearing these colors and competing at the highest level has been one of the greatest honors of my life…” Rioux wrote.

“Winning the national championship last year was a dream come true for all of us. It’s something we worked for every single day, and to experience that moment together is something I will cherish forever. I will take these memories with me for the rest of my life.

“To the alumni and Florida Victorious, thank you for building the legacy that we’re so proud to represent. And to my teammates, my brothers, thank you for every moment, every battle, every joke, and every memory. The bond we share is untouchable. And most importantly, thank you to all Gator Nation. Your energy, passion, and support mean everything to me. You’ve stood by me through it all, and I’m forever grateful to be a part of this family. This time together will always hold a special place in my heart. Until we meet again. Thank you, merci.”

Rioux played sparingly in two years with the Gators, redshirting as a true freshman during the team’s national championship season and then getting on the court in mop-up duty this past season. He played 15 total minutes, finishing with seven points, six rebounds , and an assist.

Rioux became the tallest person to ever play college basketball when he made his debut in a 104-64 victory over North Florida last November. He scored three games later, making a free throw after getting fouled. He also recorded his first rebound.

Rioux is two inches taller than former NBA giants Gheorghe Muresan and Manute Bol, and three inches taller than popular big men Yao Ming, Tacko Fall and Shawn Bradley.

Head coach Todd Golden gave Rioux the option of playing sparingly as a true freshman or taking a redshirt season and working on his game. Rioux chose the latter. After all four frontcourt players returned, Golden made it clear before the season that Rioux would only play late in blowouts.

Woods also had “bloodshot and glassy eyes,” “extremely dilated pupils,” and was “sweating profusely,” when a sheriff’s deputy arrived at the two-car crash scene on Friday afternoon in Jupiter, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office affidavit says.

“Woods movement was lethargic and slow,” the deputy wrote in the affidavit.

“I asked Woods if he consumed any alcoholic beverage to drink today to which he stated ‘none,’ ” the deputy wrote.

“I asked Woods if he consumed any prescription medication to which he stated, ‘I take a few,’ ” the deputy wrote.

John Harbaugh dishes on potential Giants reunion with Odell Beckham Jr

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

There could be one Giant reunion in the works for New York.

Head coach John Harbaugh was asked about the team signing free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and the coach did not dismiss the possibility.

“The obvious pat answer would be you look at every option, and if Odell is an option, we’ll be looking at him for sure,” Harbaugh told reporters at the owners’ meeting on Monday.

Beckham, 33, played under Harbaugh with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 and was productive as a depth wide receiver. He caught 34 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns.

Harbaugh spoke about the relationship he has with the three-time Pro Bowl receiver.

“He and I do talk. We do text,” Harbaugh said. “We’ve maintained a really great relationship. He’s one of my very favorite people in the world. It’s not like you don’t talk to guys on things like that. And certainly we have.”

“We’ll just have to see where it all goes, what’s best for him, what’s best for the Giants.”

Beckham won Offensive Rookie of the Year with the Giants in 2014, exciting fans with his electrifying play. After four seasons, three of which he made the Pro Bowl, the Giants signed Beckham to a five-year, $90 million contract extension in August 2018.

After the season, then-general manager Dave Gettleman infamously said at a press conference the team didn’t sign Beckham to trade him. Gettleman traded him to the Cleveland Browns just over two months after that press conference.

In five seasons with the Giants, Beckham played 59 games, catching 390 passes for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns.

Beckham never recaptured that same form with the Browns, spending just two and a half seasons with them before they released him. The Los Angeles Rams signed Beckham after his release and he became a key part of their offense in the Super Bowl run, including scoring a touchdown in the big game before he tore his ACL.

Beckham last played in the NFL in 2024 with the Miami Dolphins, playing in nine games and catching just nine passes for 55 yards. He did not play in 2025 and was suspended six games for performance-enhancing drugs.

He played at the Fanatics Flag Football Classic earlier in March and played well. After the event, Beckham told reporters he hoped it would be a “starting point” toward an NFL return.
