SACRAMENTO — There’s a reason why the Warriors dubbed this a dress rehearsal.

Rolling out the lineup they hope to use to escape from the play-in, nothing came easy for a group about as close to full strength as the Warriors hope to get heading into the postseason.

Steph Curry survived an early injury scare but was largely kept quiet for his second consecutive game, Kristaps Porzingis turned in one of his poorest shooting efforts of the season and Al Horford made little impact in limited minutes.

In theory, the debut of the three together should have guided Golden State to an easy win over one of the NBA’s worst teams, but it proved to be a struggle to put away the Kings in a 124-118 loss.

It was Kings guard Devin Carter who played a starring role with six 3-pointers for a game-high 29 points. The Warriors were led by two guards not named Curry: Brandin Podziemski with a career-best 30 points and De’Anthony Melton with 17 off the bench.

Curry was held to 11 points in 27 minutes and didn’t re-emerge after going into the tunnel with about five minutes left. Porzingis connected on only four of 12 attempts from the field for 11 points and Horford failed to grab one rebound while scoring 10 points in 17 minutes.

What it means

The game provided coach Steve Kerr his first look at the team with Curry, Porzingis and Horford all healthy. Without the latter two on Tuesday, the Warriors struggled to put the Kings away at home, and despite possessing most of their missing puzzle pieces ran into trouble again.

Turning point

Whatever hopes the Warriors have for this postseason flashed before their eyes only minutes into the game when Carter blitzed Curry at halfcourt. He swiped the ball clean and sent Curry spinning to the ground, visibly shaken up.

All it amounted to, however, was a scare. 

Curry appeared to tweak the same right knee that has kept him out of all but three games since Jan. 30. But after a timeout and some attention from Rick Celebrini, the head of their medical staff, Curry remained in the game.

Carter converted a reverse layup on the opening possession of the second half to extend the Kings’ lead to 65-51, their second-largest of the game, but the Warriors went on to score the following 12 points and took an 89-82 advantage into the final period.

Sacramento mounted a 14-2 run to flip a 98-92 Golden State lead into a 106-100 advantage with 5:16 to play, and the Warriors played from behind the rest of the way.

For the anticipation behind the debut of Curry, Horford and Porzingis together, the Warriors’ best player was the only one to play all of their 81 games so far.

Podziemski sank a free throw in the final seconds to reach 30 points for the first time in his career.

In their 81st game of the season, the Warriors used their 42nd different starting lineup.

With Curry, Porzingis and Horford all healthy at the same time for the first time all year, Kerr said before tipoff, “We’ve been looking forward to this.” He brought Horford off the bench and started Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos and Draymond Green alongside Curry and Porzingis.

They will only have one more dress rehearsal before the play-in, and the first didn’t go so well.

Still, there’s a reason why Kerr said the grouping is so “enticing” to Golden State.

“Lot of versatility, ball handling, shooting,” Kerr said. “Obviously Steph negates a lot of spacing issues, but with the spacing that we will have with Kristaps, there’s the potential that it could open things up for Steph, for BP, for Gui and his driving.”

But Trump traveled to Georgia knowing five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods would be absent. Woods was arrested after a rollover crash in Florida late last month. He later announced he would not compete at this year’s Masters and was granted permission to seek treatment outside the U.S.

Trump’s mother, Vanessa, has been publicly linked to Woods romantically. Vanessa supported Woods amid the fallout from his arrest on DUI charges, writing “Love you” in a post to an Instagram stories post, which featured a photo of the pair.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Florida said Woods was traveling at “a high rate of speed” when his vehicle collided with another car, causing it to roll over onto the driver’s side.

Authorities said Woods “exemplified signs of impairment.” He blew “triple-zeroes” for alcohol but refused a urine test.

“DUI investigators came to the scene here, and Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment. They did several tests on him. Of course, he did explain the injuries and the surgeries that he had. We did take that into account, but they did do some in-depth roadside tests,” a sheriff’s department spokesperson said.

Woods pleaded not guilty to the DUI charges. Before his arrest, he indicated that playing the season’s first major was a possibility.

In the 14 majors since he won the green jacket in 2019, Woods has failed to muster a top 20 finish. It’s his longest such streak since failing to finish in the top 20 in the first six majors of his career in 1995 and 1996. In his last 26 majors, he has only four top 20 finishes.

Since finishing tied for ninth at the 2020 Farmers Insurance Open, his best finish in his 18 official events since then has been a tie for 37th at the 2020 PGA Championship.

Woods has not competed in a professional golf tournament since 2024, when he competed in just five events — the Genesis Invitational and the four majors. He withdrew from the Genesis, finished dead last in the Masters and missed the cut in the other majors.

Former NFL quarterback Browning Nagle, a Louisville standout in the 1991 Fiesta Bowl, has died, his alma mater announced Friday. He was 57.

Nagle was diagnosed with colon cancer earlier this year.

He made his pro football debut in 1991 after the New York Jets selected the strong-armed quarterback in the second round. Nagle saw limited action in his rookie season, attempting just one pass, but he moved into the starting role in 1992.

Nagle finished his time as the Jets’ starter with a 3-10 record and seven touchdown passes.

Boomer Esiason, the 1988 NFL MVP, was traded from the Cincinnati Bengals to the Jets in 1993, relegating Nagle to a reserve role. Nagle joined the Indianapolis Colts in 1994 before ending his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons.

Nagle was long linked to Brett Favre, whom the Jets had targeted in the 1991 NFL Draft. After failing to trade up, New York selected Nagle after Atlanta took Favre one pick earlier at No. 33 overall.

Months before entering the NFL, Nagle etched his name into college football lore, throwing for 451 yards and three touchdowns in Louisville’s upset win over Alabama in the 1991 Fiesta Bowl.

The mission remained simple for Conor Sheary. After clawing his way onto the Rangers roster through a professional tryout in training camp, and after spending most of last season with the Lightning’s AHL affiliate, he wanted to prove — to himself, to everyone around the league — that he could still contribute, that the version of Sheary from the Penguins teams that won back-to-back Stanley Cups early in his career still existed.

But Sheary struggled. Really struggled.

He didn’t tally his first goal until his 27th game. He didn’t score his second until March 10. He was a healthy scratch at times and then missed the final 17 games leading into the Olympic break with a lower-body injury. There were chances for more goals, Sheary admitted, but instead all that emerged were questions.

Head coach Mike Sullivan, who coached Sheary for three-plus seasons in Pittsburgh, stuck by him. Sheary kept a spot in the lineup even as the Rangers auditioned younger pieces.

Cameras caught Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre making an obscene gesture Thursday. 

The Scottish news outlet The Scotsman reported Friday that MacIntyre had been “reprimanded” for it.

The incident unfolded on the par-5 15th hole. After sending his approach shot into the water guarding the green, MacIntyre appeared to raise a middle finger in visible frustration.

Augusta National officials are known for enforcing strict decorum standards. According to The Scotsman, MacIntyre was reminded of the code of conduct by one of the officials.

The 27-year-old declined to speak with reporters after the round.

After a penalty drop, MacIntyre dunked another shot into the pond. After yet another drop, he blasted his next attempt over the green entirely. By the time the damage was done, he carded a quadruple-bogey nine.

MacIntyre also slammed his club into the ground on the 17th hole after a poor second shot. Earlier in the round, he was heard cursing on the 12th and 13th holes.

Entering Augusta, MacIntyre was viewed by many as a potential contender after strong showings at The Players Championship and the Texas Open. But after Thursday’s performance, his chances of making the cut appear slim.

For a tournament steeped in tradition and composure, MacIntyre’s meltdown could end up being one of the defining storylines of the opening round.

As far as Darko Rajakovic is concerned, the tension of not knowing if his Toronto Raptors will reach the NBA playoffs or stumble into the play-in tournament this weekend is “the beauty of the job.”

The Raptors visited the New York Knicks on Friday and will host the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday in the final two games of the regular season, with a win in either game clinching Toronto’s first playoff berth in four years. If the Raptors lose both games, they’ll have a longer route to the playoffs, having to advance through the four-team play-in tournament.

“This is what we signed up for, and this is very, very exciting for our coaching staff, our team, for the city of Toronto, for our fans,” said Rajakovic at practice on Wednesday. “Just the path that we had in the last two years, in my three years coaching here, just being in a position to plan, to fight for something, to fight for a playoff, to fight for seeding, and all of that is very, very meaningful.

The Raptors were without two key pieces in New York as starting point guard Immanuel Quickley (plantar fasciitis, right foot) and rookie centre Collin Murray-Boyles (neck strain) were ruled out hours before tip-off.

Both played hurt in back-to-back wins over the Miami Heat in Toronto on Tuesday and Thursday. Rajakovic appreciated them playing through the pain, especially Quickley, who he said had a positive impact on the entire roster.

“He allows everybody to go to their roles that they were developing during the whole season. Guys like to play with him. He provides a lot of spacing, opens up the floor.

Toronto also waived guard Tyreke Key on Friday, although he never actually played any minutes with the NBA club. The transaction will allow the Raptors to convert either Alijah Martin or AJ Lawson of Brampton, Ont., from a two-way deal to a standard NBA contract by Sunday, making that player playoff eligible.

The Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers have all locked up playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, with Detroit clinching the top seed. The Raptors (45-35) were fifth entering play Friday, tied with Atlanta but ahead of the Hawks on tiebreakers.

After the two losses in Toronto, Miami is locked into the play-in for a fourth consecutive year. Entering Friday, the other three teams in the field were the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets.

The Raptors haven’t been in the playoffs since the 2021-22 season, when they lost to the Sixers in the first round.

Backup centre Sandro Mamukelashvili said earlier this week that the entire season has been leading up to this weekend.

“We’ve been keeping each other accountable and playing hard. Even though sometimes we have ups and downs, we stay together. We try to figure it out together,” he said. “Coach (Rajakovic) is doing a great job coaching us and helping us get over the humps that we have. It’s amazing to be where we’re at because I don’t think anybody saw us being here.

“Now we’ve just got to lock in and finish strong. It’s not done until it’s done.”

The NBA penalized the Orlando Magic for what the league says was a violation of its injury reporting policies.

The team was fined $25,000 Thursday over Magic guard Anthony Black’s availability ahead of Monday’s game against the Detroit Pistons.

Black missed 15 games leading up to Monday’s matchup as he recovered from an abdominal strain. He was initially designated as out for the game, but the 22-year-old entered and finished with 14 points and a pair of steals.

After a rough first round at Augusta National Thursday, Bryson DeChambeau did not appear too pleased when he was asked about his 3D-printed 5-iron.

The two-time U.S. Open champion had an eventful first round at the Masters, hitting a patron with a tee shot on the sixth hole before taking three separate bunker shots on the 11th.

After the round, he had to face the media, and he was asked about the process of making his special club other than the driver.

DeChambeau said it’s roughly a “day-and-a-half” process to make a club, so when he was asked if he “would want to” go through the process of making another one, it was a hard no.

“Pfft, no. It has to be USGA-conforming. There’s a whole process you have to go through,” he said.

It’s a club he built himself.

“There’s this nature that I have about myself where innovation is a habit of mine, and I really find and take pride in that ability to learn — even through failure, even through making a bad decision or a good decision — what I can get from that,” he told ESPN.

DeChambeau said after the round that he only used the club once on Thursday.

Last year, DeChambeau was in the final group of the Masters alongside eventual winner Rory McIlroy. The two were paired together to end the prior year’s U.S. Open as well, which DeChambeau won in part due to bad putting by McIlroy and a forever-remembered up-and-down by DeChambeau from the bunker on 18 at Pinehurst No. 2.

But DeChambeau could not find similar success Thursday after shooting a 4-over 76, putting himself in danger of missing the cut.

A couple of Indiana Pacers fans went viral on Thursday night after what appeared to be a rather animated conversation in the stands.

The Pacers were in Brooklyn to take on the Nets in a battle of NBA basement dwellers, but props to the fans for showing out.

However, during the game, there appeared to be an animated chat between a male and female fan, with the male launching into a monologue.

The man almost immediately responded with a face of slight recognition and appreciation at the very least.

It’s a far cry from last year’s Pacers season, when they made the NBA Finals, but Tyrese Haliburton ruptured his Achilles during that series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and he’s missed this entire 2025-26 season.

The nightmare for the Pacers and Nets is almost over. The NBA season ends Wednesday.

The Montreal Canadiens have already punched a ticket. The Edmonton Oilers are nearly there, too.

The Ottawa Senators also look be on course for a return to the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Winnipeg Jets, meanwhile, have some work to do — and need a lot of help.

Four of Canada’s seven NHL teams remain in the mix for the NHL’s annual spring dance, with the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs all set to miss out.

The Canadiens clinched a second straight post-season berth last weekend, but are jockeying for position in the Atlantic Division with the Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Bay Lightning. Buffalo tops the ledger with 106 points, followed by Montreal (104) and Tampa Bay (102).

The Sabres, who hold the first tiebreaker with 41 regulation victories, have two games remaining on the schedule, while the Canadiens and Lightning each play three more times in the regular season.

Montreal, which fell to the Washington Capitals in last year’s first round, could face either of those clubs to open the playoffs, while other possibilities include Ottawa and the Boston Bruins.

Edmonton leads the Pacific Division — a race captain Connor McDavid called a “pillow fight” last month because of its slow crawl to the finish line — with 90 points, one better than both the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks. Each team has three games remaining, with the Oilers holding the tiebreaker thanks to 31 regulation victories.

The website MoneyPuck.com pegged Edmonton’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs at 99.98 per cent heading into Saturday after the league took Friday night off. Claiming the division crown would likely mean a first-round matchup with the Utah Mammoth.

The Senators have captured four of their last five games in regulation to push the club’s post-season chances to 92.1 per cent.

Ottawa occupies the Eastern Conference’s second wild-card berth with 94 points and three games remaining.

The Senators are two back of the Bruins for the first wild card, while the Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders are three points adrift of Ottawa. The Columbus Blue Jackets have 90 points, followed by Washington with 89.

Boston, Ottawa, Detroit, New York, Columbus and Washington all have three games left.

The Senators, who made the playoffs a year ago for the first time since the franchise’s run to the 2017 conference final before bowing out to the Maple Leafs, could face the Carolina Hurricanes in the opening round, while the Sabres, Canadiens and Lightning are also possible.

Winnipeg sat last in the overall standings on Jan. 8 with a 15-22-5 record. The Jets steadied themselves and have made 20-9-7 surge in the second half to stay in the playoff conversation in the top-heavy West.

Last season’s Presidents’ Trophy winner with a league-topping 116 points, however, will need a lot to go right to get in.

Winnipeg currently sits on 82 points, three back of the Los Angeles Kings for the conference’s second wild-card slot. The Nashville Predators have 84 points, while the San Jose Sharks are at 81.

The Kings, Jets and Sharks have four games left, one more than the Predators.

Winnipeg still has a shot, but MoneyPuck.com had its chances at 12.6 per cent heading into the weekend. Snagging an improbable post-season appearance would also likely mean a first-round date with the powerhouse Colorado Avalanche.
