A man in his 70s has died after being struck by a vehicle in Mississauga on Thursday evening, according to Peel Regional Police.

Police said officers responded to Lakeshore Road East and Stavebank Road area at approximately 7:10 p.m, when a blue Chevy Trax travelling westbound on Lakeshore Road struck a pedestrian, who was crossing mid-block from north to south.

The driver, an adult male, remained at the scene and was co-operative with investigators.

Peel EMS responded to the scene and transported the male to a local hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The pedestrian later died in hospital.

The investigation is now underway by the Major Collision Bureau. No charges have been laid.

The intersection was closed following the collision, but has since reopened.

Peel Regional Police say a Brampton, Ont., kidnapping investigation has led to multiple charges and the seizure of a firearm after a victim was allegedly held at gunpoint during a $200,000 ransom demand.

According to Peel police’s release, the investigation began on Nov. 6, 2025, at approximately 6 p.m., when a complainant contacted officers to report that a close friend had been kidnapped.

Investigators allege the accused demanded $200,000, warning that the victim would be harmed if the payment was not made.

The victim was safely located and found to be unharmed. One accused was arrested at the scene, where a .45-calibre firearm was recovered.

“Through their coordinated and persistent efforts, they [police] removed an illegal firearm from our streets and intervened in time to protect a victim from harm,” Peel Regional Police Chief Marc Andrews said.

On Feb. 13, 2026, investigators executed two Criminal Code search warrants in Brampton, where additional evidence related to the investigation was located.

Police say officers also seized a loaded firearm magazine and an unloaded rifle magazine.

Two Brampton men, both 27, have been charged with multiple firearm-related and kidnapping offences.

Police say an arrest warrant has also been issued for a third suspect, a 28-year-old with no fixed address, who now faces similar charges.

Peel Regional Police say nearly 200 charges have been laid following an investigation into a series of commercial break-and-enters in Mississauga.

In a statement, police said the searches resulted in the arrest of two young offenders and the recovery of more than $50,000 worth of stolen property.

More than 35 incidents were reported between November 2025 and January 2026, with businesses across the city targeted.

Investigators allege multiple vehicles were used during the offences, including a silver 2007 Acura RDX and a 2009 Hyundai Elantra.

Officers executed four search warrants on Feb. 10 at three Mississauga homes and one vehicle.

Items seized included jackets, shoes, perfumes and cosmetic products.

“Break and enters have a real and lasting impact on residents and local businesses, and no one should feel unsafe in their own community,” said Deputy Chief Marc Andrews in a statement.

The first accused faces 83 charges, including break-and-enter offences, disguise with intent, possession of break-and-enter tools and mischief over $5,000. The second accused faces 71 similar charges.

Police say both young offenders were held for bail hearings.

A third young offender has been identified and is wanted in connection with the investigation. They are facing 36 charges.

In total, the three accused face 190 charges.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identities of the young persons cannot be released.
