Linz Open 2026 Day 1: Predictions ft. Paula Badosa vs Lilli Tagger, Dayana Yastremska vs Ann Li
Paula Badosa and Ann Li will spearhead in action on the opening day of the 2026 Linz Open. Both players are looking to book their spots in the second round of the WTA 500 event making its debut on clay this season.
While Badosa will clash with youngster Lilli Tagger, Li will take on the big-hitting Dayana Yastremska. The likes of Jaqueline Cristian, Sorana Cirstea and Sinja Kraus will also be in action. Here, we take a look at the prospects of those in fray:
Thanks for the submission!
Paula Badosa vs Lilli Tagger

Paula Badosa takes on a fast-rising Lilli Tagger in her opening match of the Linz Open. The Spaniard has had her fair share of struggles with injuries in recent times and comes into the event with a modest 9-9 win-loss record for 2026.
Badosa did pick up a couple of encouraging wins in Charleston a couple of weeks ago and will look to build on that result. Last year’s junior French Open champ has made a successful transition onto the senior circuit and is already at the cusp of a top-100 debut.
This year, the Austrian has picked up her first few wins at the big stage. Playing on clay in front of the home crowd, she will be completely at home.
Much like Badosa, Tagger has a big serve and often clocks up to double-digit aces. She is also the fitter of the two players. The indoor conditions will give a filip to the big hitters and it will come down to whoever is braver. Given the 18-year-old’s recent exploits and better fitness, she could well be the one to come out on top.
Prediction: Tagger in two tight sets
Dayana Yastremska vs Ann Li

Two big ball-strikers, Dayana Yastremska and Ann Li, will lock horns in the other big first-round match. The former is in particular need of match wins, having put together a negative 7-10 record for the season so far.
Yastremska’s high-risk game has not worked for her of late and she will need to adopt a more patient approach on the slower clay.
Li too has made a slow 5-8 start to the season, with only a second-week showing at Qatar to show for. She is the steadier of the two players, but even her flat groundstrokes are better-suited for quicker surfaces.
With both women looking to find lost form, this one could come down to the nerves. And in a contest of thin margins, Li’s better-rounded game should give her an edge.
Prediction: Li in three sets
