Trump issues chilling new ultimatum for Iran to make a peace deal as talks on brink of collapse

Donald Trump has warned Iran that it should strike a deal within a day or he’ll end the ceasefire and launch a new wave of strikes.

‘We’re going to find out in about 24 hours. We’re going to know soon,’ Trump told the New York Post after dispatching Vice President JD Vance to Pakistan to lead peace talks.

It’s his latest salvo in a string of ultimatums against the Islamic Republic that has defined the President’s handling of the war.

‘We have a reset going. We’re loading up the ships with the best ammunition, the best weapons ever made – even better than what we did previously, and we blew them apart,’ he said.

‘And if we don’t have a deal, we will be using them, and we will be using them very effectively.’

The upcoming peace talks are expected to center on Trump’s demands that Iran surrender its stockpile of enriched uranium and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping.

In a Truth Social post later on Friday, Trump said the Iranians ‘don’t seem to realize they have no cards, other than a short term extortion of the World by using International Waterways. The only reason they are alive today is to negotiate!’

Tehran, meanwhile, is pushing for immediate relief from US sanctions, continued control over the strait, and compensation for wartime damages.

Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf warned that peace talks were not going well, accusing the US of already violating the terms of the ceasefire.

Qalibaf said two key measures previously agreed upon have yet to be carried out, including a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, and the release of frozen assets.

Trump on Thursday pressured Israel to slow down attacks on Lebanon as the strikes threatened to thwart peace talks with Iran.

The President admitted that he’d told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ‘to be sort of a little more low-key’ as Vance and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff lead negotiations in Islamabad.

US and Israeli officials described Trump’s phone call with Netanyahu on Thursday as ‘tense’, according to CNN.

An Israeli source said that Netanyahu believed if he did not immediately call for direct talks with Lebanon then Trump would simply declare a ceasefire on his behalf.

Shortly after the call, Netanyahu announced he would engage with Lebanese authorities in peace talks.

US officials are concerned that Israel’s campaign against Lebanon could crumble the fragile three-day-old ceasefire before the peace talks even begin.

According to the latest Daily Mail/JL Partners poll, American voters were ‘relieved’ that the President decided to take the off-ramp instead of escalating the war.

The survey found that 33 percent of voters view the deal as a good outcome for the United States, compared to 18 percent who see it as a bad one.

Another 28 percent of respondents said they feel neutral about the agreement, while 20 percent remain unsure, underscoring the public’s mixed but measured reaction.

The President’s falling approval appears to have been driven in part by surging gas prices after the strait’s closure, with the national average climbing to $4.20 per gallon.

Prince Harry is being sued for defamation by a charity he co-founded, court records show.

Sentable, which was founded by the British roal in 2006 to help young people with HIV and AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana, has lodged a defamation complaint.

Harry had resigned as patron in March 2025 after a falling out with chair of the board Dr Sophie Chadauka.

Former trustee Mark Dyer has also been named in the claim, according to the High court record made public today.

There are no suggestions as to what the lawsuit involves.

Has Ukraine created a ‘wonder weapon’? RICHARD PENDLEBURY spends days deep underground on the Kharkiv frontline to witness the unjammable killer drone that could decide the war

On the first episode of a gripping two-part series documenting Ukraine’s new fibre optic drones, award-winning foreign correspondent Richard Pendlebury joins the elite Charter Brigade to become the first reporter to witness the ‘wonder weapons’ in combat.

Fibre optic kamikaze drones are inflicting heavy casualties on Russian forces along the Kharkiv frontline. What sets them apart from conventional attack drones is devastatingly simple, they cannot be jammed.

With the addition of a gossamer thin fibre optic cable running from the drone to its operator, the devices are completely unaffected by enemy electronic warfare systems.

While the cabling limits their range, the drones are piloted by specialist soldiers who live and operate from dugouts deep underground, launching deadly strikes before vanishing back beneath the earth.

Before meeting these pilots in their underground bunkers, Pendlebury explained what makes the drones so innovative.

He said: ‘The Charter Brigade are at the forefront of the use of a so-called wonder weapon, the fibre optic kamikaze drone, which first appeared on the battlefield in the autumn of 2024.

‘Ordinary first person kamikaze drones have dominated the Ukrainian battlefield for at least two years. They are controlled by radio signals, which can be jammed by an enemy’s electronic warfare equipment.

‘Fibre optic kamikaze drones are instead controlled by a thin cable attached to a pilot’s handset up to 40 kilometres away. The signals which pass through it are immune to electronic jamming.

‘They are like deadly kites, ones which, unlike ordinary drones, can lie on the ground and wait for a passing victim.’

Pendlebury spent days underground with three drone pilots, known only by their military call signs, Puma, the team leader, Kush and Umbrella.

Their commanding officer told the reporter of a recent Russian push into Ukrainian territory to illustrate the lethal effectiveness of the new weapons.

He said: ‘The last time we had Russian tanks here, it was on the 15th of May last year.

‘Our side and their side were supposed to be negotiating. The next morning, the Russians launched a big assault in our direction. Six armoured vehicles, two cars and one cannon. All of it was destroyed by our drone units.’

One of the drone pilots, Puma, shows Pendlebury how to construct a fibre optic drone, revealing another of the weapon’s key strengths.

It can be assembled in as little as 30 minutes, with the fibre optic cabling adding only 10 minutes to the normal build time.

This allows the unit to keep multiple drones on standby, ready to replace any that are lost or destroyed in combat.

‘We keep a stockpile,’ Puma said via a translator. ‘We just need to attach a shell, then it’s ready for a mission.’

Three-month-old baby girl is mauled to death by ‘bully breed’ dog while ‘being looked after by a friend’ – as man, 45, is arrested

A man has been arrested after a three-month-old baby girl was mauled to death by a ‘bully type’ dog.

The infant was attacked by the animal at a property on Hardale Drive in Redcar, North Yorkshire, at around 1.30pm yesterday.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury resulting in death. He was released on conditional bail following questioning.

Locals said the baby was being ‘looked after by a friend’ and was just visiting the street when she was attacked.

Two dogs were involved in the incident, although it remains unclear which one was responsible for the death of the little girl.

A bully type dog was detained by Cleveland Police and later destroyed, while a grey and white animal of a similar or same breed was shot dead by officers at the scene.

Both dogs were assessed by a specialist officer, and they have been deemed not to be an illegal breed.

Residents have described the dogs as ‘pocket bullys’- a small breed from the same family of dogs as American Bullys and XL Bullys.

A 31-year-old woman also sustained injuries to her arm as a result of a dog bite and received hospital treatment.

Chief Superintendent Rachel Stockdale, Head of Local Policing at Cleveland Police, said: ‘Our thoughts continue to be with the child’s family following this tragic and distressing incident.

‘I want to take this opportunity to request that their privacy is respected during this difficult time.

‘There will continue to be a scene in place at the property alongside a visible policing presence as the investigation is ongoing.

‘I encourage anyone who has concerns to please speak to an officer.

‘We are also appealing to anyone with information, mobile or doorbell and dash cam footage to get in touch.’

Meanwhile, floral tributes have been left outside the home this afternoon while forensic officers have also been spotted close to the scene.

As the terrifying attack unfolded, one resident told Teeside Live that police shouted at residents to ‘get in any cars or houses’ while the animals were running loose.

Scarlett Calvert said: ‘I was on the path behind the police tape when one of the dogs escaped. Police said to everyone just just get in anyone’s cars, houses or gardens,’ she said.

‘Two police officers came up to me and I got put in someone’s garden. The next thing I heard was a gunshot. They had already captured one of the dogs and put it in the van but then the other dog got out through a gap in the fence.’

One woman, who witnessed the moment the dog was shot, said: ‘Earlier in the day, my friend had told me that a baby girl had been attacked.

‘I had seen a brindle looking bully type dog running around Hardale and it wasn’t until I saw all the ambulances that I thought, something is going on.

‘Two hours later I came home to find the road was cordoned off and witnessed the grey and white dog get shot.’

The neighbour added: ‘They had to do what they had to do, the dog was loose.

‘It was awful, it was distressing, but you just want to know what’s going on.’

Another local who lives on the street where the tragedy happened said: ‘One of the dogs tried to attack a neighbour but she jumped in her car.

‘She heard someone screaming, and she tried to help, but the dog went for her, so she had to jump back in the car.

‘It’s awful, absolutely awful. I don’t know exactly what happened, but I would never leave a baby alone with a dog.

‘It was a baby girl. She didn’t live in the house. She was being looked after by a friend.

‘It’s absolutely tragic.’

Trump turns on his closest allies in furious tirade on Iran as loyalists bail on president… as he declares Brigitte Macron is a WOMAN

Donald Trump issued a nearly 500-word rant ripping into his most influential advocates in conservative media over their opposition to his war with Iran.

Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Megyn Kelly, and Alex Jones have turned on the President’s agenda following the launch of Operation Epic Fury.

Trump branded his former allies ‘low IQ…stupid people’ and ‘NUTS JOBS, TROUBLEMAKERS,’ in a Truth Social post on Thursday.

‘I know why [they] have all been fighting me for years, especially by the fact that they think it is wonderful for Iran, the Number One State Sponsor of Terror, to have a Nuclear Weapon – Because they have one thing in common, Low IQs,’ Trump said.

‘They’re stupid people, they know it, their families know it, and everyone else knows it, too!’

The four right-wing pundits claim Trump was misled into launching the war under pressure from Israel and that the President abandoned his ‘America First’ campaign promises. Trump’s explosive tirade comes as he faces fresh scrutiny over his two-week ceasefire with Iran.

The President highlighted some of the most glaring embarrassments tied to each of the right-wing influencers, including mocking Owens for claiming that France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron, is a man.

‘”Crazy” Candace Owens, who accuses the Highly Respected First Lady of France of being a man, when she is not, and will hopefully win lots of money in the ongoing lawsuit,’ Trump wrote. ‘Actually, to me, the First Lady of France is a far more beautiful woman than Candace, in fact, it’s not even close!’

Right-wing influencer Candace Owens

Donald Trump issued a nearly 500-word rant ripping into his most influential advocates in conservative media over their opposition to his war with Iran .

Owens falsely claimed Macron was a born named ‘Jean-Michel Trogneux’.

Macron sued Owens for defamation in July.

Trump then went after Jones over his notorious conspiracy theory that the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting was staged.

Those claims ultimately resulted in roughly $1.5 billion in defamation judgments against Jones, awarded to the victims’ families across multiple lawsuits.

‘Bankrupt Alex Jones, who says some of the dumbest things, and lost his entire fortune, as he should have, for his horrendous attack on the families of the Sandy Hook shooting victims, ridiculously claiming it was a hoax,’ Trump continued.

Trump also falsely claimed Carlson never finished college, adding that he was a ‘broken man’ after being fired from Fox News: ‘He’s never been the same – perhaps he should see a good psychiatrist!’

He wraps his rant by claiming all four right-wing stars are ‘losers’ and do not represent the MAGA movement.

‘As President, I could get them on my side anytime I want to, but when they call, I don’t return their calls because I’m too busy on World and Country Affairs and, after a few times, they go “nasty.”‘

Megyn Kelly and Alex Jones have turned on Trump over his war with Iran

‘MAGA is about MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and these people have no idea how to do that, BUT I DO,’ Trump added.

Carlson and Kelly famously campaigned for Trump during the 2024 election.

The former Fox News hosts, as well as Owens and Jones, command some of the largest media audiences in the country.

Manager of Scotland’s first alcohol free bar crashed his car while more than four times the drink-drive limit

The manager of an alcohol-free bar was found slumped over the wheel of his car after crashing at more than four times the drink-drive limit.

Hayden Geraghty is the boss of Sobr in Aberdeen but got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol with friends after a shift last month.

He crashed the motor and police arrived to find him on the driver’s seat on March 7.

Geraghty was breathalysed and gave a reading of 99 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 22mcg.

The 33-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday and admitted drink driving.

Sheriff Eric Brown banned Geraghty, of Newtonhill, from driving for 12 months and ordered him to pay a total fine of £520.

The owner of Sobr, Kate Kenyon, issued a statement following her manager’s conviction and said he was being supported.

She said: ‘Some of you may have seen the news this morning regarding our general manager’s recent drink driving conviction. We pride ourselves on openness and honesty, and so we want to share with you an update.

Irony overload or cautionary tale – where do YOU land on this one?

‘Hayden wrote off his car in March after driving home well over the limit and was convicted on Tuesday.

‘For us as an alcohol-free bar, it was really disheartening to hear what had happened, however it further goes to show the weight that alcohol can hold and the impact it can have.

‘No matter where someone works, what they do for a living or how – from the outside – they appear to have the perfect life.

‘Alcohol abuse does not discriminate and can impact anyone.

‘It affects over 20 per cent of Scotland’s population and it’s why somewhere like Sobr is so important.’

The bar said Geraghty was being supported personally and professionally, and he will continue working at the venue.

Ms Kenyon added: ‘As a sober bar that has tried so hard to create a safe space for those who want to remove alcohol from their lives, we will continue to support Hayden through this as much as we can.

‘He understands the significance and consequences of his actions, and is incredibly remorseful he stepped into his car that night.

‘Since the incident, Hayden has been upfront and honest with us about what he has been going through, which has been greatly appreciated.

‘He is working through this personally and is getting the right support from those around him, and services available to him.

‘Hayden will continue to work at the bar during this time and we ask you to be kind to him when you visit.

‘Alcohol has a cultural and societal grip on us and it’s something we want to change.

‘Sobr’s mission is to show that you can have a great night out without alcohol.

‘It’s about connection, community and offering space free from the pressures of alcohol.’

Sobr opened last year and has a expansive menu full of alcohol-free cocktails, wine, beer and spirits.

Student, 19, killed himself just weeks after finding his girlfriend dead in university halls, inquest hears

A troubled student who was devastated after finding his girlfriend dead in her university halls took his own life just weeks later in a double teenage tragedy.

Tom Dingle, 19, from Appley Bridge near Wigan, was found in woodland on Christmas Day last year by a member of the public, bringing to an end a vast 12-day search involving the Lancashire force helicopter, drones, dogs and underwater teams.

Lancaster University student Tom, who had a history of mental health problems, had told medical professionals he was suffering from intrusive thoughts and emotional distress imagining a future without his partner.

He was last seen alive in the early hours of December 13 last year, after leaving his parents’ home and claiming he was going to a garage to buy cigarettes.

In his last ever words to his parents, he told them he loved them – and had reassured his mother that the family had done everything they could to support him.

His body was discovered by a walker in woodland on December 25.

Tragically, this was just a month after Tom had found his girlfriend, Natasha Braithwaite, also 19, dead in her university halls bedroom.

First-year fine art student Natasha suffered with post-traumatic stress disorder, and a coroner recorded her death as drugs-related.

Tom had raised the alarm after being unable to get in touch with Natasha on the day of her death, so went round the flat and woke up her housemates.

When they managed to get into Natasha’s room, she was unresponsive on the bed, and paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Detectives from Lancashire Police found a metal spoon taped to her desk, which they said indicated it had been used for heroin, and toxicology tests showed she had fatal levels of morphine in her system.

At an inquest held at Preston Coroners Court, Coroner Richard Taylor described Tom as ‘a vulnerable young man’.

He said: ‘It appeared to all who knew him that his mental health was improving to such an extent that he was able to go to university in September 2025.

‘It was there that he met his girlfriend. It was there that, sadly, his mental health also seemed to worsen.’

The court heard how Tom found his girlfriend dead on November 21, 2025. After this, his parents drove to Lancaster to take him back to his family home.

He returned home to see friends on December 9. On the way back, Tom told his father he had taken an overdose and subsequently spent some time in hospital, the court heard.

On December 12, 2025, it was agreed he would be seen by an at-home treatment team.

But that never happened, because later that night he left the house, saying he was going to get cigarettes. His mother was suspicious and raised the alarm, contacting the police.

After Tom was first reported missing, his parents, Sue and Peter, issued a statement which said: ‘We just want him home as soon as possible.

‘We’ve even put a note on the front door so he knows he can just walk in. We’re just here to love and protect him, that’s all.

‘Tom is in a vulnerable state of mind following a traumatic event. He is grieving very much.

‘My husband Peter and I, and Tom’s older brother, are going out of our minds with worry that something may have happened to him.

‘We just want him home where it’s safe. It’s cold and wet out at night. We don’t know if he’s seeking shelter anywhere.

‘He needs to know that he’s not in any trouble because of the distress and worry. He needs to know that we are not in any way upset with him.

‘We just want him home. We just love him so much and miss him desperately.

‘So many people miss him as well, especially his family.’

Coroner Richard Taylor described in court how, on the night of his disappearance, Tom had told his mum: ‘You, dad and Jack (his older brother) have done everything you can, so don’t worry.’

In a statement, Tom’s mother described how he had come into their bedroom to say goodnight, which was unusual for him. They then heard the door closing softly.

Tom told his parents, who were concerned about him, that he had gone to get cigarettes, saying: ‘I went through the woods on the way back home. I will be back soon – love you both.’ But he did not return.

Detective Superintendent Lukmaan Mulla, the senior investigative officer during the search for Tom following his disappearance, described him as being seen as an immediate life threat.

An extensive search was carried out in the area, including the quarry and canal, but devastatingly, at 15.12pm on Christmas Day, a member of the public reported finding a body in the woods.

Detective Mulla said: ‘There were no signs of violence or disturbance. There was no evidence of third-party involvement.’

Coroner Richard Taylor said it was his finding that Tom had taken his own life. He said: ‘My sincere condolences go out to all those who loved him, especially his parents.’
