Over the course of a trial spanning more than two months, the jury heard that Boundaoui was a bystander in the wrong place at the wrong time, caught in the crossfire of a conflict between two family businesses that did not concern her.
Touaibi said on the stand that he was the shooter, but testified he didn’t realize Boundaoui or anyone else was in the Jetta when he shot at it. He acknowledged being aware of the conflict between family businesses, but said his involvement was limited to trying to act as a peacemaker.
Bouadi’s lawyer argued during closing arguments that his client was just a “passive” passenger in the Mercedes who had gone to get food with his friend and should be acquitted. He said his client was aware of the conflict between groups but not involved.
The two men were arrested days apart by Montreal police in June 2022.

According to the release, investigators also found equipment used to facilitate drug trafficking.
The two suspects were later released on a summons after meeting with investigators and will appear in court at a future date.

Boundaoui was in the passenger seat of a different vehicle that was struck by bullets in Montreal’s St-Léonard borough.
Both Bouadi and his co-accused, Salim Touaibi, are charged with first-degree murder in her death, as well as attempted murder of people standing nearby.

But Labelle says the evidence suggests Touaibi didn’t mean to kill anyone when he shot at the Volkswagen Jetta while the teen was in the passenger seat on Feb. 7, 2021.
Touaibi and his co-defendant, Aymane Bouadi, were charged with first-degree murder after the 15-year-old was killed in Montreal’s St-Léonard borough by shots fired from a Mercedes that had pulled up beside the Jetta.
The trial in Superior Court has heard that Boundaoui was caught in the crossfire of a dispute that did not involve her, which arose between two family-owned businesses over parking spots.

Labelle says his client fired toward the car because he was afraid of being shot and wanted to scare others nearby, but had not realized the teenager was inside.
