Erling Haaland injury latest for Man City vs Nottingham Forest and FPL update

The Manchester City talisman missed the win over Leeds United, and it remains unclear whether he will return for the mid-week Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest at the Etihad

Erling Haaland may be a doubt for Manchester City’s meeting with Nottingham Forest at the Etihad on Wednesday night. The striker sat out the 1-0 victory over Leeds after picking up a minor knock.

With the Forest game arriving just four days after the win at Elland Road, there are concerns over whether the 25‑year‑old will have fully recovered in time. Antoine Semenyo’s goal secured the points against Leeds, keeping City firmly in the title race.

Pep Guardiola’s side remain five points behind leaders Arsenal, though they still have a game in hand against Crystal Palace. That fixture was postponed due to City’s upcoming Carabao Cup final against Mikel Arteta’s team later this month.

Here, the Manchester Evening News has taken a look at the latest on Haaland’s potential availability.

What has been said about Haaland’s injury?

Haaland missed the match at Elland Road last Saturday with Guardiola revealing it was just a ‘little injury.’

“Two days ago in training he had some problems and a little injury,” the City boss said. “Not a big issue but not ready for today. We are without one top striker and we are playing with another top striker.”

When pressed for a timeline on his return, Guardiola added: “I don’t have the answer right now. He was not ready for today, but we have four days before Nottingham Forest.

“And after three days in FA Cup at Newcastle at 8pm – thank you so much for that time to go better to Madrid with less recovery, I thank you.”

Haaland was replaced in the starting line‑up by Omar Marmoush.

Will Haaland be fit to face Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 29?

Fantasy Premier League lists Haaland with a 75 per cent chance of being available, which may calm some nerves among both City supporters and FPL managers who rely on him.

So far this season, the Norwegian has only been sidelined once through injury, missing the recent match against Leeds.

Erling Haaland responds to Man City win at Leeds United after injury blow

Erling Haaland was not selected as part of Pep Guardiola’s squad to take on Leeds United on Saturday evening owing to a minor injury, but shared his support as the Sky Blues ran out 1-0 winners over the Peacocks

Erling Haaland has reacted to Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Leeds United with a two‑post response. City came away with crucial three points in Yorkshire with Antoine Semenyo scoring the only goal of the encounter on the brink of half-time.

Haaland’s absence from the win was due to an issue he picked up in training during the week. The problem isn’t believed to be serious, and there is optimism he could even recover in time for Wednesday’s visit of Nottingham Forest, though Pep Guardiola remained cautious about giving any firm timeline for the Norwegian’s return.

Speaking to the BBC after the game, the Blues boss said: “We don’t have spies in the training centre to deliver the info to our media. I think it is not a big issue. We will see.”

After the game, the 25‑year‑old took to Snapchat to share a picture of himself celebrating the win.

He posted a selfie, clenching his fist, with the caption: “So important,” followed by prayer and blue heart emojis.

On Instagram, he shared City’s post that read: “A hard‑fought victory” and replied with a blue heart emoji.

In Haaland’s absence, Rayan Cherki stepped into the side and played a key part in the decisive moment.

After the victory, Guardiola said: “A huge victory for us. Erling is a massively important player for us, but we behaved really well. My idea of the game is that they started well, but we expect it here.

“Leeds are so intense. After that we did what we are good at for the last decade, a thousand million passes, and make the vibe of the crowd a little bit calmer.

“We missed a little bit more intention up front with the movements, but when they got fatigued the last 15 or 20 minutes we had more intention and to pass the ball to try to score a goal – and we found it at the end of the first half.

“We dropped in second half normally, but that didn’t happen today: we were incredibly focused. We didn’t create much but we didn’t concede anything. It was long balls where we struggled with the second balls.

“It was a little bit more uncomfortable, but we defended really well.”

The victory at Elland Road cuts City’s deficit to leaders Arsenal to two points ahead of the Gunners’ meeting with Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Haaland, Doku, Gvardiol – Man City injury news and return dates after Fulham

Manchester City have been battling some significant injury troubles across the team, with Pep Guardiola giving an update on Erling Haaland’s fitness situation after the Fulham game

The Premier League title race is heating up, as Manchester City applied pressure on Arsenal once again by picking up an important win in midweek action.

A first-half blitz from Pep Guardiola’s men saw them defeat Fulham, as goals from Antoine Semenyo, Nico O’Reilly, and Erling Haaland handed them victory at the Etihad Stadium.

With the gap at the top now down to just three points, it’s up to City’s title rivals Arsenal to respond, as they are in action on Thursday against an in-form Brentford side.

In the meantime, Guardiola will be keen to rally his troops once more, hopeful of avoiding injuries at a key time of the season when they can start to crank up the pressure on their rivals for the Premier League crown.

So, with that said, here’s a look at the latest City injury news, including an update on Haaland after the Fulham victory.

Erling Haaland

City fans were left nervous over Haaland’s fitness after the goalscorer was substituted at half-time during his side’s win over Fulham.

Fortunately, Guardiola downplayed the issue after the match, as he told reporters: “Niggles. Some problems, he didn’t feel comfortable, it was 3-0.

“The reason why is too many games. Fatigue. He said ‘I don’t feel comfortable’. With 3-0 and with a lot of games and with having Omar [Marmoush], common sense.”

As a result, it’s unclear whether Haaland will feature against Salford in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, before City turn back to Premier League action against Newcastle the following weekend.

John Stones

After a spell out of the team through injury, John Stones finally made his return to the City squad again in midweek, featuring on the bench.

The defender was an unused substitute, while he could make an appearance against Salford in the FA Cup over the weekend.

Jeremy Doku

Jeremy Doku is still out through injury, having picked up a calf problem against Galatasaray in the Champions League earlier this season.

There is an expectation that he could return at some point this month, but it remains to be seen whether the recovery will meet that timeline.

Josko Gvardiol

City will be without Josko Gvardiol for the foreseeable future, with the defender picking up a tibial fracture in the clash with Chelsea.

There is hope that the Croatian international will be back at some point before the end of the season, with a few months left for him to make a return.

Savinho

Savinho has struggled to get going this season, having failed to get many minutes on the pitch with some proper momentum, as injuries continue to impact him.

The Brazilian winger was lined up for a possible return this week, but after failing to make the squad against Fulham, it’s unclear exactly when he will be available once again.

Mateo Kovacic

It’s been a tough campaign for Mateo Kovacic, who picked up an ankle problem in November, and has been unable to play for City ever since. A return seems unlikely until next month at the earliest.

Pep Guardiola gives Erling Haaland injury update after Man City win

Pep Guardiola spoke about Erling Haaland after the Manchester City striker was replaced at half time during the Premier League game with Fulham

Pep Guardiola played down concerns over an injury to Erling Haaland after the Manchester City striker was taken off half way through their Premier League win over Fulham. Haaland scored City’s third shortly before the break but did not reappear for the second half, with Omar Marmoush coming on in his place at the interval.

Haaland had been taken out in the build-up to the second goal but played on before he was taken off and told the coaching staff that he didn’t feel right. With the lead they had and the rest that can lie ahead for the Norwegian, Guardiola and his medical staff decided the best thing to do was not to risk anything.

“Niggles. Some problems, he didn’t feel comfortable, it was 3-0,” said Guardiola. “The reason why is too many games. Fatigue. He said ‘I don’t feel comfortable’. With 3-0 and with a lot of games and with having Omar, common sense.”

The Egyptian was unable to make much of an impact, with City failing to offer a threat in a game that petered out and finished 3-0. Guardiola though was delighted with the performance that sees the Blues move to within three points of Arsenal before the league leaders play Brentford on Thursday night.

Haaland’s goal against Fulham means he has scored in back to back Premier League matches having netted just once, from the penalty spot against Brighton, in his previous seven. He has 28 goals in all competitions for City this season.

City are in FA Cup action this weekend against League Two side Salford City, before a free midweek ahead of the visit of Newcastle United to the Etihad in the Premier League. A sparse February ends with a trip to Leeds in the Premier League at the end of the month before games in four competitions in March including the Carabao Cup final.
