New video footage has shown the moment a chaotic mass brawl broke out between British passengers on a flight from Turkey to Manchester.

The airplane was forced to make an emergency diversion after the fight broke out, with dramatic footage showing passengers screaming as others exchanged blows and wrestled in the aisle mid-air.

Now new video footage has shown how the brawl on a Jet2 flight began when a man standing in the plane aisle appeared to attempt to snatch a woman’s phone who was filming.

Passengers previously claimed one of those detained had been drinking heavily and making racist remarks before the situation escalated.

A male passenger could be seen trying to take a seated woman’s phone out of her hands after spotting she was filming what was already a tense encounter.

The footage shows how another male passenger intervened, while a woman shouted: ‘Get off her.’

The first man then appeared to snatch the second man’s glasses from his face, prompting him to shove him.

Multiple passengers then attempted to intervene to calm the situation, with cabin crew seen also trying to ease things.

The brawl erupted between British passengers and prompted the flight to make an emergency landing in Brussels 

But a third man then joined in shoving the would-be phone snatcher, prompting all hell to break loose.

During the ensuing altercation a woman could be heard screaming as a female flight attendant rushed in to try and separate those fighting.

One man placed another in a headlock, and terrified families and elderly travellers reportedly became caught up in the disorder.

Witnesses described seeing blood on seats and teeth scattered on the floor.

Several passengers were later spotted giving basic first aid to those involved. 

The flight was diverted to Brussels on Thursday evening before police boarded the aircraft on landing and took two individuals into custody.

‘At one point it became very physical. Passengers were distressed. People were frightened. The atmosphere turned chaotic,’ one traveller said. 

Another added: ‘Respect to the passengers who stood up against the racism, including the kind person who sat with and comforted those shaken. The Jet2 crew dealt with the situation calmly and professionally.’ 

The pilot later told passengers that in 30 years of flying he could count his emergency landings on one hand, adding he had never witnessed an incident as violent.

The aircraft later continued to Manchester following the unscheduled diversion.

Jet2 described the behaviour as ‘appalling’ and said those involved would be banned for life.
