Shaw, Maguire – Man United injury latest before Newcastle game after new worries
Michael Carrick appeared to be handed two fresh Manchester United blows during the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League, as we look at the latest regarding injuries at Old Trafford
Manchester United enjoyed another positive afternoon at Old Trafford in the Premier League, despite two new concerns. Michael Carrick’s side beat Crystal Palace 2-1 with Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko on target after an early opener from Maxence Lacroix, who was later sent off.
The Palace defender rose highest to head home a corner after just a few minutes, with the first half made worse by Luke Shaw being forced off. The left-back had been caught late on the top of his foot by Daniel Munoz in an earlier duel.
United did not let that impact their performance however, with Fernandes scoring from the penalty spot early in the second half after Matheus Cunha was fouled by Lacroix. The Eagles defender was initially shown a yellow card, but that was upgraded to a red after a VAR review for the denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Sesko then grabbed the eventual winner with a bullet header from a Fernandes cross to help United move up to third. Harry Maguire was then forced off later in the half with Carrick offering updates on him and Shaw after the game.
It is a tight turnaround to United’s next league outing as they face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday evening, with Carrick hoping some key players can return.

With all of that being said, the Manchester Evening News have rounded up the latest updates on United’s injured stars and when they could be back.
Luke Shaw
During the first half against Palace, Shaw was forced off with what looked to be a foot injury following a collision with Daniel Munoz. Carrick later confirmed illness had been plaguing him.

Possible return date: N/A.
Harry Maguire

What Carrick said: We’ll see with Harry. Hopefully he’ll be ready for Wednesday. I thought the boys who came on did really well for us and we needed it.”
Possible return date: N/A.
Lisandro Martinez
Martinez has now missed United’s last two games because of injury, but it does not look to be a big problem for the defender.
What Carrick said: “We will have to wait and see. He is close and he is not far away, but it is hard to say at the moment.”
Possible return date: Aston Villa (H) – March 15.
Mason Mount
Mount not played for United since mid-January with injury problems resulting in him playing just 30 minutes since Boxing Day. He is however, close to being back available for selection.

Possible return date: Aston Villa (H) – March 15.
Mattijs De Ligt
A back injury has seen De Ligt absent for the last three months but there is some hope he will be back fairly soon.
What Carrick said: “Matthijs (De Ligt) has had a back issue, which has been a little bit sore to progress, really. He’s heading in the right direction.”
“It’s the nature of the injury, the issue in the back, it’s a difficult one to pin down time wise. He’s definitely improving.”
Possible return date: Aston Villa (H) – March 15.
