Golf legend Tiger Woods is ARRESTED and charged with DUI after rollover car crash in Florida

Tiger Woods is behind bars in Florida after being arrested and charged with DUI, property damage and refusing to provide a urine sample in the wake of a rollover car crash near his home on Jupiter Island.

The golf legend is unhurt and was able to crawl out of the passenger side door after his Range Rover SUV flipped onto its side, having clipped the rear end of a pressure-washing vehicle shortly after 2pm on Friday afternoon.

At a press conference, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Woods showed signs of impairment at the scene and was arrested after refusing a urine test.

Woods was alone in his car, and neither he nor the driver of the other vehicle were injured. He will remain behind bars for at least eight hours, according to the police department.

The crash occurred in a 30mph zone when Woods – who was traveling at ‘high speed’ – attempted to overtake a truck that was pulling a pressure-washing device, according to the cops.

As the vehicle slowed to turn into a driveway, Woods attempted to overtake on the two-lane residential street but clipped the rear of the trailer, flipping his Range Rover onto its side before coming to a stop.

After clambering out, a ‘lethargic’ Woods agreed to take a breathalyzer at the scene – with the Sheriff’s Office confirming that he showed ‘triple zeros’ – but he then refused to provide a urine sample.

Speaking to the media, Sheriff John Budensiek revealed: ‘He is cooperative, but he was not trying to incriminate himself, so he was careful in what he said and didn’t say. When it came time again for the test, the urine test at the jail, he stopped that.

‘On scene, we had [Drug Recognition] experts evaluating him and they believed from on scene that he was not impaired with alcohol, but they believe it was some type of medication or drug. And again, at the jail he cooperated with the breathalyzer, and then the urine [test] he wanted no part in.

‘He has a right to refuse that test. There is a statute that he will be charged with for refusing to take that test, but we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.’

Woods, who lives on Jupiter Island around two miles from where the incident occurred, was involved in a similar crash in 2021 in California, which shattered his right leg after he was trapped under the vehicle. He needed multiple surgeries in order to recover from his injuries.

The accident, the third crash he has been involved in, comes just days after Woods made his hugely anticipated return to golf at an event on Tuesday night, where girlfriend Vanessa Trump was watching him play.

The police confirmed that Woods is being kept away from the general population in jail, where he will remain until at least 11pm EST on Friday night.

‘We know we arrested a high-profile figure, I’m not trying to dramatize it,’ Sheriff Budensiek told reporters. ‘But it doesn’t matter who you are, if you break the law we’re gonna follow the law. That’s a really easy path to take.

‘Now as far as being in the jail, we’re gonna make sure he’s safe. We’re not gonna put him in general population, he’s not gonna be with other inmates that can try and hurt him or try to capitalize on what he did.

‘He’ll pay the price, but he’s not gonna pay the price by getting punished in jail. He was not injured. He was lethargic on scene, but we believe that was because of what he was intoxicated on.’

Woods had been weighing up whether to compete in The Masters at Augusta National, Georgia in April after undergoing a seventh back surgery last October. He said this week that, despite returning to golf, he has days where he struggles to move.

‘Sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days,’ he said this week of his overall health.

‘Disc replacement is not a lot of fun. I’ve had a lot of procedures prior to that, so the body doesn’t quite heal like it was when I was 24. Doesn’t quite bounce back. So I have good days when I can pretty much do anything, and other days where it’s hard to just to move around.’

As well as Woods’ ongoing back issues, he also tore his Achilles last March. He last played a tournament in July 2024 at The Open Championship in Scotland.

Remarkably, President Trump had said on Thursday night that Woods – who he is friends with – would not be playing at Augusta.

‘I love Tiger but he won’t be there,’ Trump told Fox. ‘He will be there but he won’t be playing in it.’

Trump also spoke out about Woods’ crash on Friday as he traveled home to Mar-a-Lago, telling reporters: ‘I feel so badly. He’s got some difficulty.’

He added: ‘There was an accident and that’s all I know. Very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person, amazing man. But, some difficulty. I don’t want to talk about it.’

In 2017 Woods was arrested for DUI after police found him slumped in his car in Florida with five drugs in his system, including two painkillers.

He subsequently checked into rehab for painkiller addiction.

He was involved in another high-profile crash in 2009 when he hit a fire hydrant after being chased from his home by then-wife Elin Nordegren, which led him to admit to multiple affairs and drug use.

Woods and Nordegren eventually divorced in 2010 but have remained friends while co-parenting their children.

‘Having the relationship that I have now with her is fantastic,’ Woods told Time in 2015. ‘We both know that the most important things in our lives are our kids. I wish I would have known that back then.’

Their 17-year-old son, Charlie, is an aspiring golfer and the former couple often reunite to support him at events. They also have a daughter, Sam, who is 18.

Woods has been dating Vanessa Trump for over a year – their relationship was first reported by the Daily Mail in March 2025 after they started seeing each other around Thanksgiving 2024.

Vanessa filed for an uncontested divorce from ex-husband Donald Trump Jr. in March 2018.

Her daughter, Kai, is also an avid golfer who has commited to play at college level for the University of Miami. She has also forged a growing profile as an influencer in the sport.

But just as Woods has appeared to find happiness once again away from golf, Friday’s incident is a stark reminder of the troubles that have followed him throughout the course of his life.

As well as his recent struggles to stay healthy, his mother Kultida died in February 2025 at the age of 80.

‘My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh,’ Woods said at the time.

‘She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.’

His 2021 crash in California happened when Woods lost control on a downhill stretch of road, smashed through a road sign and rolled his car several hundred feet in a horror smash that police said he was ‘lucky to survive’.

Firefighters had to use a Halligan tool to extricate Woods, freeing him from the car via the window.

Woods is a 15-time Major winner in golf and widely considered to be the most talented player to have ever competed in the game.

The Daily Mail has contacted Woods’ agent for comment.

Florida GOP gubernatorial candidate calls for sweeping federal limits on Muslim immigration

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A Florida GOP gubernatorial candidate is pushing a “permanent” federal ban on Muslim immigration, arguing Islam is incompatible with American law and values.

Former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, who launched his gubernatorial bid in the Sunshine State last summer, said Tuesday he would propose and promote a federal ban on Muslim immigration that is “permanent and comprehensive.”

“We have to be realistic and be honest that the long-term compatibility of Islam in this country does not exist,” he said. “We cannot have long-term compatibility with the American Constitution and with the American way of life.”

Renner added that anyone with terrorist ties, who has defrauded taxpayers or who has been convicted of a serious crime should be denaturalized and deported.

Renner made the comments during a news conference while speaking in front of a “No Sharia Law” sign. Sharia law is a religious legal framework derived from Islamic texts that governs aspects of life for some Muslims.

The gubernatorial candidate pointed to the passage of a bill in the Florida Legislature prohibiting the use of certain foreign laws, including Sharia law, in state courts.

Renner asserted that “only American law can be used in American courts and that should go without saying.”

He added that he would also end all funding for schools that promote what he described as Sharia law concepts.

Renner said he would pursue legislation designating the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs).

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis previously issued an executive order last December designating the groups as FTOs, but a federal judge issued a temporary injunction citing First Amendment concerns, according to The Floridian.

In his announcement, Renner cited a “recurring pattern of conflict and violence” in the years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, including a recent shooting at Old Dominion University in Virginia that left one person dead and two others injured.

The suspected shooter, Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, was a former Army National Guard soldier convicted of supporting ISIS, according to the DOJ.

“The simple fact is while there may be people in this country that will live peaceably with us, as a system there will continue to be increased division, increased conflict, and increased violence, which we have seen over the decades since 9/11, and we have to be realistic about that and put a stop to it so that we protect Americans,” Renner said. “That is the first order of business for any governor or any elected official and that is what I will do as governor.”

DeSantis, who is serving his second consecutive term, is not permitted to run again in 2026. President Donald Trump has previously backed U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds for the job.

Emily Gregory projected to win Florida special election to represent Trump, Mar-a-Lago

Democratic candidate Emily Gregory is projected to win a special election on Tuesday evening for a Florida state House seat representing a Palm Beach County district whose residents include President Donald Trump.

Gregory’s projected victory over Jon Maples, the 43-year-old Republican endorsed by Trump, would flip the House District 87 seat from GOP control. The district includes Trump’s Palm Beach club, Mar-a-Lago, where he holds residency.

With more than 95% of the votes counted as of 9 p.m. ET, Gregory was leading Maples by 51.2% to 48.8%

Gregory’s expected win was immediately touted by Democrats as yet another warning sign to Republicans for the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.

Since Trump returned to the White House in January 2025, 29 seats in state legislatures around the country have been flipped from Republican control by Democratic candidates.

“If Democrats can win in Trump’s backyard, we sure as hell can win anywhere across the country. Onward to November!” Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin said in a post on the social media site X.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams, in a statement, said, “Mar-a-Lago just flipped red to blue, which should have Republicans sweating the midterms.”

“A Trump +11 district in his own backyard shouldn’t be in play for Democrats, but tonight proves Republicans are vulnerable everywhere,” Williams said. “Gas prices are spiking, grocery costs are up, and families can’t get by – it’s clear voters at the polls are fed up with Republicans.”

“If Mar-a-Lago is vulnerable, imagine what’s possible this November,” she said. “Democrats are clearly on offense as we prepare for the most expansive midterm strategy ever down-ballot, with 650 seats in play. 2026 is shaping up to be an election for the history books.”

Gregory, a 40-year-old small business owner, had not sought elected office before this year. She is expected to seek election to a full two-year term in November.

The special election was held to fill the seat previously held by Mike Caruso, a Republican who resigned in August to become Palm Beach County clerk.

Caruso, who won District 87 in the 2024 election by nearly 20 percentage points, was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, who had unsuccessfully sought the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, which was won by Trump.

Trump had praised Maples at an event in Florida on Saturday, calling the candidate up on stage.

“I’m honored that the voters of District 87 have placed their trust in me,” Gregory said in a statement on Tuesday night.

“Tonight’s result sends a clear message that people want Florida to move in a new direction, one where leaders focus on lowering costs and standing up for working families,” Gregory said.

“Floridians are being squeezed by rising housing costs, insurance rates, and everyday expenses, and that’s what this campaign has always been about: making Florida more affordable and making sure our state works for the people who live here,” she said.

Maples’ campaign did not immediately reply to a request for comment by CNBC.

Ballot box upset: Democrats flip Florida legislative seat in Trump’s stomping ground

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Florida Democrats on Tuesday flipped control of a long-vacant Republican-held state House seat in a Palm Beach-anchored district that includes Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s home turf.

The Associated Press reports that Democrat Emily Gregory defeated Republican Jon Maples in a special election in Florida’s House District 87, in the race to fill the seat left vacant last August, when GOP state Rep. Mike Caruso resigned to become Palm Beach County clerk and comptroller.

The ballot box battle was one of three special legislative elections being held in GOP-dominated Florida on Tuesday. And while the contests won’t change the balance of power in the state legislature, where for more than a quarter-century Republicans have held majorities in both the House and Senate chambers, bragging rights were up for grabs in the president’s home district.

Maples was backed by Trump, who moved his primary permanent residence in 2019 from Trump Tower in New York City to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. He is also backed by a number of top Sunshine State Republicans.

“There is a very important Special Election tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24th, for Florida State House District 87 in beautiful Palm Beach County — JON MAPLES HAS MY COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT!” the president wrote in a social media post on Monday evening.

The 43-year-old Maples, a financial planner and former Lake Clarke Shores Council member who, during his years at Palm Beach Atlantic University was an all-American athlete, made cutting taxes and government spending, reducing regulations, promoting private sector job creation and advancing school choice.

Gregory, a 40-year-old Army spouse, owns and runs a Jupiter-based fitness center for pregnant and postpartum women. The first-time candidate made affordability, increasing public education, tackling rising property insurance and housing costs, and access to healthcare key parts of her campaign.

Maples was the favorite heading into the special election, thanks to his fundraising advantage in a district that leads to the right. Trump carried the district by roughly 10 points in his 2024 re-election victory. Palm Beach County was once firmly blue until a GOP surge in recent cycles.

NADINE DORRIES: My church encounter with Edo made it clear exactly what kind of man he is. This is what he gets up to, what those in the Cotswolds really think of him… and the only way Beatrice can save their marriage

This past weekend, the Cotswold Set has been positively buzzing with concern and intrigue following hints that the six-year marriage of a local couple may have hit troubled waters.

According to The Mail on Sunday, there has been a notable ‘distance’ between Princess Beatrice and Edo Mapelli Mozzi of late, as Edo tries to protect his luxury interior design consultancy from the toxic fallout of the Epstein Files.

The claim was underlined by a flurry of snaps on Edo’s own Instagram feed that showed him living it up in the luxury hotspots of Palm Beach, Florida, on a business trip recently.

Like the flamingo pink suit and loafers he was wearing, it wasn’t a good look for the Italian aristocrat. Not when his wife – and mother of his two young daughters – is enduring the toughest time of her life.

I wasn’t surprised though. I’ve had some experience of Edo myself. At a church service, I found Beatrice and Eugenie and their husbands seated behind me.

Edo was laughing loudly and generally behaving like a disrespectful teenager so that, at one point, I turned round and gave him the evil eye that only a woman my age – and a mother – can bestow.

To his credit, he got the message, pronto. But there was an arrogance there that smacked of immaturity.

‘He needs attention, he’s one of those men,’ a source told the MoS. That figures, I thought when I read it yesterday.

Of course, one could legitimately ask what marriage wouldn’t hit a rocky patch with all Beatrice and Edo have been through of late.

The collapse of the House of York, her father’s arrest and the sustained humiliation over her parents’ links to a convicted paedophile; the fact that Beatrice herself is mentioned hundreds of times in the Epstein Files. And perhaps, most brutally of all, the isolation of herself and sister Eugenie from the wider Royal Family – it has been reported that they will not attend some of this year’s most illustrious public events.

Then there is the pressure on both girls here and in the US to tell all about their own association with Epstein. All of this would surely take its toll on the strongest of marriages.

But this is no ordinary pairing. When Edo married Beatrice in 2020, neither she nor her sister were strangers to scandalous headlines generated by their parents over many decades.

From toe sucking to cash for access and dodgy business deals, Edo – whose own parents were long-time friends of the Yorks – knew exactly what kind of family he was marrying into.

Of course, none of the numerous sins of the parents can be held against the girls. But some might say that for Edo to suddenly decide that his business is in danger of being tainted by the ongoing scandals, just as Beatrice needs him the most, is a bit rich.

I’ve met Beatrice, too, and she strikes me as a very sweet and earnest young woman.

People who know her well describe her as ‘incredibly kind, if a little naive’. No doubt she’s making the best of it by trying to navigate the ‘distance’ Edo is reportedly creating in their marriage with his various work trips while loyally supporting both her parents. She wants to keep the show on the road.

The truth is that, her children aside, Beatrice is a far better person than those she loves and supports but who appear to let her down repeatedly.

A friend of mine sat next to her and Edo on the train from Paddington to the Cotswolds late last year as they worked on the guest list for the Christening of their youngest daughter, Athena.

‘They seemed very together, as they compared names and numbers from their phones. But it was Beatrice doing the work.

‘Neither looked like they had had a good day,’ my friend added. ‘But she was stoically cracking on with the job in hand.’

Those who know the Princess appear to have little time for Edo.

‘Beatrice herself is very likeable and a kind person but, Edo, he’s smarmy,’ says one.

‘He’s a little p***k,’ says another bluntly.

It seems to me that Beatrice has two choices. The first is to make her marriage work and for that to happen, she should follow in the footsteps of her sister – Eugenie is based in Portugal with her husband Jack Brooksbank and their two sons – and leave the UK.

Their daughters are young and if Edo’s business interests are mainly in the US, then that should be the destination. If the marriage is hard-going now, then it is only going to get trickier if they are apart for long periods.

As for her parents, it is possible for Beatrice to love them and to hold onto the fond memories of her childhood, whilst cutting herself free from their toxic influence. She should, as her sister has reportedly done, let them go.

Not with rage – from everything I hear, that is not Beatrice’s style. She is an emotional individual who wants everyone to be happy. But she needs to understand that if her marriage is her priority, that she and her family deserve better.

She can step away and begin to reconcile what she has been through whilst understanding that she is not accountable for the behaviour of others.

I think I understand enough about Beatrice now to know she’ll put her family first, herself last.

There isn’t a person I have spoken to who isn’t rooting for her. The time has now come for her to start doing the same for herself.

Democrat Emily Gregory wants to represent Trump — and his Mar-a-Lago resort — in Florida’s legislature

Marco Bello | Reuters

Emily Gregory, a small business owner and first-time candidate for elected office, is looking to score an upset in a Florida special election on Tuesday to represent Mar-a-Lago in the state legislature.

Gregory is a Democrat running for state House District 87, which runs up the coast of southeast Florida and includes Palm Beach — where President Donald Trump’s home and resort is located — as well as South Palm Beach and Juno Beach.

“It is the kind of district that fits just kind of outside the bubble of what we’ve seen Democratic over-performance in these targeted races,” Heather Williams, president of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, said in an interview with journalists from CNBC and MS Now. “We could win it. If we don’t win it it’s not going to be a surprise.”

Gregory is squaring off against Trump-endorsed candidate Jon Maples — a financial advisor and former college basketball player — in a district the GOP has controlled since 2022.

Republican Mike Caruso, who represented the area in the state House until his resignation in 2025, won reelection in 2024 by 19 points. But as Trump’s approval ratings dip and Democrats throughout the country are showing gains in special elections, Gregory and her supporters see an opportunity to play spoiler and potentially pick up a seat with major symbolic value.

Read more CNBC politics coverage

But according to Gregory, Trump is not the focal point.

“It’s impacted people’s interest in talking to me about it,” Gregory said in an interview. “He is a constituent. But I am more focused on all 115,000 voters in District 87, not just the one.”

But in the MAGA era, Trump cuts a large figure even in some state and local races, particularly ones where the president has a personal stake. In January, Trump endorsed Maples, who last year stepped away from his seat on the Lake Clarke Shores Town Council.

Maples did not respond to multiple phone calls to his financial advisory office. His campaign did not respond to multiple emailed requests for comment. The Republican Party of Florida did not respond to an emailed request for comment.

“As your next State Representative, Jon will fight tirelessly to Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Stop Migrant Crime, Safeguard our Elections, Support our Military, Veterans, and Law Enforcement, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” the president wrote in a post to Truth Social in January.

Trump became a Florida resident in 2019, during his first term as president.

Maples has branded himself a “conservative outsider. America First patriot.”

On his campaign website, Maples says he would focus on “congested roads, polluted waterways” and “affordability challenges, from inflation to soaring insurance premiums to ever-increasing property taxes.” After notching Trump’s endorsement, Maples called the president “the most transformative leader I’ve seen in my lifetime” in a social media post.

“The positive impacts of his presidency will be felt for generations — from the liberation of Venezuela, to the incredible trade deals he’s negotiating, to securing the Southern Border after 4 years of open border policies. America is better off with Donald J Trump in the White House,” Maples posted to Instagram.

Affordability as a state election issue

Gregory is eager to talk about affordability issues. She said she would be focused on addressing the state’s property insurance crisis and concerns about spiking health insurance costs with the expiration of Affordable Care Act tax subsidies earlier this year. She said the state legislature should expand Medicaid, stop gutting public education and focus more on kitchen table issues.

“The legislature is focused on attacking vulnerable communities and participating in culture wars and not solving the affordability crisis in the state,” Gregory said.

But Gregory has an uphill climb to win on Tuesday in a state where Republicans have a cash advantage and outnumber registered Democratic voters by more than a million.

Gregory sees hopes in national trends of Democrats overperforming in special elections in the last year, including in ruby-red Florida.

Democrats outperformed 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in nine special elections in Florida in 2025, in some cases by double digits, according to local outlet MCI Maps. And in December, Eileen Higgins became the first Democrat to win a mayoral race in Miami in nearly 30 years.

“We’ve knocked all of the doors, we’ve made all of the calls. I’m really proud of the campaign we ran. I think it’s going to be close, and I think we’re going to come out on the right side of it,” Gregory said.

19 Kids and Counting star Joseph Duggar arrested on accusations of sexual activity with a nine-year-old girl

Joseph Duggar, a married father-of-four, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with allegations that he touched a nine-year-old girl on her underwear and genitals.

Joseph, 31, the younger brother of convicted sex offender Josh Duggarwas arrested in connection with lewd and lascivious behavior involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a statement from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Lynn Haven, Florida, announced.

On Wednesday, an investigator with the Tontitown Police Department in Tontitown, Arkansas, reached out to the BCSO ‘regarding a report of past sexual abuse.’

An alleged victim, identified as a 14-year-old girl, told law enforcement about a series of inappropriate incidents Joseph Duggar was involved in around five years back, police said.

Authorities said the alleged incidents occurred during in 2020, when the alleged victim was nine years old and on vacation with her family in Panama City Beach, Florida.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the BCSO for further comment. A Duggar family spokesperson told the Daily Mail the family had not issued a statement as of Wednesday evening.

Joseph Duggar was arrested on Wednesday in connection with allegations that he touched a nine-year-old girl on her underwear and genitals

The alleged victim told investigators that the family had been staying at a home located on Danny Drive at the time of the illegal incidents.

Joseph Duggar ‘repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap,’ BCSO officials said, adding that his behavior appeared to escalate as the vacation continued.

In another incident, Joseph ‘asked [the victim] to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket, ‘rubbing’ his hands on her thighs.

‘During this time, Duggar manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals.’

Duggar subsequently told the alleged victim he was sorry, and the incidents ceased, according to officials with the BCSO.

The father of the alleged victim confronted Joseph Duggar about what happened on Tuesday, at which time he admitted to his actions to the father and a detective in Tontitown, the BCSO said.

Joseph Duggar was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with Lewd and Lascivious Behavior — Molestation of a Victim Less Than 12-years-old; and Lewd and Lascivious Behavior Conducted By A Person 18 Years or Older.

Authorities with the BCSO said that Joseph Duggar is currently awaiting extradition to Bay County.

Joseph said he was shocked by his brother Josh’s criminal actions in a December 2015 appearance on Jill & Jessa: Counting On.

A then-20-year-old Joseph said, ‘I don’t think there’s any way any of us would have known that my brother was living such a secret life. It broke my heart.’

Joseph has been married to wife Kendra since September 2017, and they are parents to four children, People reported.

Through hard work and dedication, Kendal Vickers got the chance to live out a dream shared by countless kids, through a seven-year career playing in the NFL.

The 6-foot-3 defensive tackle carved out a pro career in one of the toughest roles in sports, suiting up for the Las Vegas Raiders from 2020 to 2022 and later taking the field for the Buffalo Bills and the New Orleans Saints.

Now, in his first year as a real estate agent working in Florida and Tennessee, Vickers is starting over, once again chasing success in a game where the competition is fierce and victory is never guaranteed. It’s a challenge he welcomes.

“I just decided I was going to take the same work ethic and the same mentality that I had in football,” Vickers says. “I know I’m going to end up reaping the benefits of my work. I just have to control what I can control, and that’s myself.”

Vickers’ introduction to real estate didn’t come from luxury listings or celebrity pals, but rather from time spent swinging a hammer at a dusty jobsite under the hot Tennessee sun.

As a college player at the University of Tennessee, he would spend his summers working for his uncle, a longtime general contractor and developer who runs the Wright Group in the Knoxville area.

“Every offseason, when I wasn’t doing anything football-related, I’d go work for him,” Vickers recalls. “He had me getting on roofs, working on old windows, doing flips—just a bunch of stuff that, at the time, I didn’t really know what I was doing. I was just working an extra dollar.”

What started as a summer job slowly turned into an education. His uncle walked him through how the business actually works: how projects are financed, what makes a deal profitable, where the risks are. His aunt, who ran the books, helped explain the financial side.

“It was a real family dynamic,” he says. “I thought that was pretty cool, but I didn’t know I wanted to sell real estate until about a year before I retired.”

Planning for life after football

Like many players who get the rare opportunity to go pro, Vickers grew up singularly focused on reaching the NFL.

“I always wanted to go to the NFL, since I was 4 or 5 years old,” he says. “It’s a 1% thing, and you hear that your whole life, that it’s not a real job, or that you’ve got to pick something more realistic … but I just wanted what I wanted, and because of my size and physical attributes, was able to mature into that.”

That single-mindedness carried him through college and into the NFL. But as his career progressed, he started thinking more intentionally about what would come next. Before his final 2024 season with the Saints, Vickers quietly began laying the groundwork for a second act.

“I was just like, ‘Hey, I think I want to get into real estate. I think I want to become an agent,’” he says. “I decided I was going to take a class and see where it got me.”

That decision turned 2024 into one of the busiest years of his life. Mornings were devoted to training and conditioning to stay ready for the season. Afternoons and evenings were spent grinding through real estate coursework.

On top of all that, Vickers and his wife were expecting their first child.

“I’d get up in the morning, train, do everything: lift, get my cardio in. Then when I got home, I’d sit at my computer desk for the next six hours,” he says. “Luckily, I have a great support system who helped me keep everything organized.”

He finished about 60% of his coursework before the 2024 season kicked off, then completed the remainder after the year ended. He earned his Florida real estate license in June 2025, followed by his Tennessee license a few months later.

A new career in a tough market

Vickers launched his real estate career at a tough point in the market, particularly in Florida, where sales have slowed and prices have softened in the past few years.

“People tell me, ‘You picked a hell of a time to get into real estate,’” Vickers says with a laugh.

He shrugs off the concern. “Is there ever really a perfect time? My mindset was, I’m not going to worry about the market. I’m just going to outwork it.”

Vickers signed up with Compass, a brokerage he first connected with through the agent who helped him purchase a home in Tampa while he was playing for the Raiders.

He says the transition has been a smooth one, with plenty of support from the team at Compass.

“They’re very agent-centric as far as the things we need, and they listen to us,” says Vickers. “I’ve heard from a lot of people that there’s not a better one you could pick as your first brokerage.”

Vickers’ first two deals came almost simultaneously: one on the buyer side and one on the seller side.

The buyer-side referral came from a contact in Las Vegas, who connected him with a young couple seeking to buy their first home in Florida.

“To see the look on their face when they bought their home, when they came in for the walkthrough, seeing their son running in the backyard, the smile on the wife’s face,” he recalls. “That was the moment where I was like, ‘Okay, I see why people do this now.’”

The other deal was representing a listing in Tennessee, one of his uncle’s properties that had languished on the market for nearly 300 days. Vickers stepped in, tweaked the strategy, and got it under contract in a matter of weeks.

Vickers’ NFL background has also helped him make new connections in real estate. At one industry event in Tampa, mortgage broker Marcus Duane Anderson, a diehard Raiders fan, recognized him and approached him.

Anderson, the founder of MDA Financing, is now Vickers’ preferred lender.

“He just has a certain level of character that stands out,” says Anderson. “Being in the mortgage business as long as I have, I know a lot of real estate agents, and not all of them have such a good vision, a good heart.”

Early in his real estate career, Vickers says he’s made it a point to handle as much of the process himself as possible to shorten the learning curve.

“I did all the paperwork by myself, because I wanted to learn how to do everything, so I’m taking care of my clients as much as I’m able to,” he says.

Today, his work with his uncle’s firm has expanded beyond one-off listings. The family company is building two subdivisions totaling roughly 200 lots in the Knoxville area, with another subdivision coming soon near Nashville. The homes, all single-family, generally range from about $600,000 to $1.5 million, and Vickers now serves as head of sales on the projects.

Setting the foundation for success

Vickers traces back his approach to work to his upbringing in a military household, with his father serving in the Marines for 21 years.

“I had a certain level of discipline in my home,” he says. “Anybody that grew up in a military family knows what that looks like.”

As a Marine’s son and later as an NFL player, he moved often, an experience that has given him special empathy for clients who are going through a relocation.

“You’ll be on one team one week and gone the next,” he says. “If there’s anybody that knows how to go from one place to another as seamlessly as possible, it’s definitely me. I know how stressful moving can be, and I just try to help alleviate that pressure.”

For younger people considering a career in real estate, Vickers says the field is rewarding but doesn’t sugarcoat the work involved.

“The first year sets the foundation for the rest of your career,” he says. “You’re going to make mistakes. The difference is whether you learn from them.”

He points to the top agents he’s watched at Compass and in his family’s business: “The successful people I know don’t make the same mistake twice. They listen to other agents, to their clients, and they’re always willing to learn. It’s not for the weak. You’re going to have slow months. But persistence and consistency are what set you over the top.”

That perseverance took a kid with a 1% chance of going pro all the way to the NFL. Now it’s driving his success in the real estate game as he launches his second act.

Armed individuals killed by Cuban coast guard aboard Florida-registered boat were US residents, local officials claim

Four people killed aboard a Florida-registered speed boat following an alleged shootout with the Cuban coast guard were US residents, local officials said.

The deceased were among a group of ten ‘armed’ individuals who had entered the country’s waters to carry out a terror attack, Cuba’s government claimed in a statement issued Wednesday night.

Six others aboard the vessel were reportedly injured after they exchanged gunfire with the coast guard, per the Ministry of the Interior of Cuba.

Michel Ortega Casanova was identified as one of the fatalities, with local authorities reportedly working to identify the three others.

The injured were detained and named by according to the Cuban government as Amijail Sánchez González, Leordan Enrique Cruz Gómez, Conrado Galindo Sariol, José Manuel Rodríguez Castelló, Cristian Ernesto Acosta Guevara and Roberto Azcorra Consuegra.

The group planned to carry out an ‘armed infiltration’ and swooped bearing guns, Molotov cocktails and tactical gear, according to the government’s statement.

Local officials also claimed the majority of those on the boat have ‘a known history of criminal and violent activity’.

The ministry specifically said González and Gómez are wanted by Cuban authorities ‘based on their involvement in the promotion, planning, organization, financing, support or commission of actions carried out in the national territory or in other countries, in connection with acts of terrorism’.

The Cuban government further claimed Duniel Hernández Santos was detained within the national territory and ‘confessed’ to being sent by the US ‘to facilitate the reception of the armed infiltration’.

The incident unfolded Wednesday morning, when the speedboat approached one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino channel in the Villa Clara province, according to the Cuban Embassy.

It added that Border Guard Troops confronted the speedboat, leading the crew of the Florida-registered boat to open fire on the Cuban personnel.

Authorities said they later seized assault rifles, handguns, Molotov cocktails, bulletproof vests, telescopic sights, and camouflage uniforms from the boat.

But speaking ahead of the update, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio downplayed Cuba’s version of events, vowing that the United States Department of Homeland Security and the US Coast Guard will conduct their own investigations.

‘We’re not gonna base our conclusions on what they told us,’ he said, insisting that the boat was not in international waters as part of a US government operation.

Rubio then said he was not ‘going to speculate about whose boat it was, what they were doing, why they were there, what actually happened.’

Still, he vowed that the US will ‘respond appropriately based on what our information tells us.’

Vice President JD Vance also said late Wednesday afternoon that Rubio had briefed him on the incident. He added that the White House was monitoring the situation.

‘Hopefully it´s not as bad as we fear it could be,’ Vance said.

The shootout now threatens to increase tensions between the US and Cuba, following President Trump’s authorization of a mission last month to capture Nicolás Maduro, the former leader of Venezuela.

Venezuela and Cuba have been close allies for decades, with Venezuela being the main exporter of crude oil and fuel to the island.

For weeks, the US has been intercepting and seizing oil tankers headed for Cuba, though the Trump administration has not acknowledged it is instituting a blockade.

Last week, the US Coast Guard seized a tanker 70 miles away from the island that was full of Colombian oil, The New York Times reported.

There are indications that the Trump administration wants to go further and pursue regime change.

Trump himself has made numerous statements hinting that he wants the Cuba’s Communist leadership gone.

In late January, The Wall Street Journal reported that officials close to the administration have been discussing ousting Miguel Díaz-Canel, 65, who has led the country since 94-year-old Raúl Castro retired as president in 2021.

Officials familiar with the plans were focused on waiting for Cuba’s economy to collapse, making a possible operation easier to accomplish.

However, it broke on Wednesday that the Trump administration is now allowing American companies to resell Venezuelan oil to private companies in Cuba. The new guidance came from the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

‘This favorable licensing policy is directed towards transactions that support the Cuban people, including the Cuban private sector (e.g., exports for commercial and humanitarian use in Cuba),’ the office said.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the State Department and the White House for comment on Cuba’s claims.

Russell Brand pleads not guilty to raping and sexually assaulting two women in 2009

Russell Brand has pleaded not guilty to fresh charges of rape and sexual assault.

The 50-year-old, who is based in Florida, was at Southwark Crown Court this morning to deny the offences, which relate to alleged incidents in 2009.

He is alleged to have raped a woman sometime between February 7 and March 1 and to have sexually assaulted another between August 31 and December 1.

Brand, who flew back from the US for the hearing, spoke only to confirm his name and to enter his not guilty pleas from the dock.

He is due to face trial later this year in relation to the charges.

He arrived at Southwark Crown Court this morning in a black Mercedes-Benz, wearing a white wide-brimmed hat, a tiger-print shirt open to the midriff, pinstripe trousers and a large grey overcoat.

The former comedian, who said he found religion in early 2024, also carried a copy of the Bible with several bookmarks hanging out the top.

The former presenter and actor is already facing one count each of rape, indecent assault and oral rape, as well as two counts of sexual assault, relating to four separate women.

He appeared in court in May last year to plead not guilty to those five charges.

The two new charges on which he pleaded relate to two additional women.

Detectives began investigating Brand in September 2023 after receiving a number of allegations, which came after reporting by The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches.

The original incidents are said to have occurred between 1999 and 2005.

Brand already stands accused of raping a woman in a hotel in 1999 after they met that day at a theatrical event following the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth.

He is also alleged to have raped a woman working in television whom he met in a Soho bar in 2004, accused of grabbing her breasts before pulling her into a toilet and forcing her to perform a sex act.

Another woman claims she was indecently assaulted by Brand, who grabbed her arm and attempted to drag her into a male lavatory at a television station in 2001.

The presenter was working for Channel 4 on Big Brother’s Big Mouth between 2004 and 2005 when he is said to have carried out the final assault on a radio station worker.

Born-again Christian Brand denied the charges in a video posted online shortly after he was initially charged last year.

He told viewers: ‘When I was young and single, before I had my wife and family… I was a fool, man. I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict, and an imbecile.

‘But what I never was was a rapist. I have never engaged in non-consensual activity.’

A four-week trial is scheduled to begin at Southwark Crown Court this summer in relation to the five original charges.

Brand was married to Katy Perry from October 2010 until July 2012; he is now married to Laura Gallacher – sister of sports presenter Kirsty – with whom he has two children.

This is a breaking story – more to follow.
