NEW DELHI: Gujarat Titans finally got their first win of IPL 2026 after a dramatic last-over finish against Delhi Capitals. The match turned on a crucial moment when David Miller refused a single late in the final over, a decision that proved costly.

Last-over drama decides the match

Delhi looked in control towards the end, especially with Miller hitting big shots and bringing the equation down quickly. However, the game changed in the final over bowled by Prasidh Krishna. Miller declined a single on the second-last ball, keeping strike but putting pressure on himself. On the final delivery, with two runs needed, he missed a slower ball and attempted a run, but Jos Buttler ran him out at the striker’s end, leaving Kuldeep Yadav short. Delhi finished agonisingly short, handing Gujarat a thrilling one-run win.

How the match unfolded

Earlier, Gujarat Titans posted a strong total of 210/4, thanks to key contributions from Jos Buttler (52), Shubman Gill (70) and Washington Sundar (55). Buttler’s aggressive start, including multiple sixes, set the tone, while Gill and Sundar kept the momentum going. In response, Delhi Capitals got off to a solid start with KL Rahul (92) and Pathum Nissanka (41) building a strong opening partnership. However, Rashid Khan’s three wickets in the middle overs shifted the momentum.Despite Miller’s late heroics, including a big penultimate over, Delhi couldn’t cross the line. The result marked Gujarat’s first win of the season, while Delhi suffered their first defeat after a promising start.

NEW DELHI: Chennai Super Kings are facing growing uncertainty over their talisman and former captain MS Dhoni’s availability, with the veteran wicketkeeper-batter still some way off full fitness as the IPL 2026 season gathers pace.According to a Cricbuzz report, Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf muscle strain and is unlikely to be match-ready in time for CSK’s upcoming clash against Delhi Capitals on April 11. At this stage, the 44-year-old may need at least another week before he can return to action, casting serious doubt over his participation in the next two fixtures.

CSK are set to host Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk in the coming days, but Dhoni is almost certain to miss the first game and remains a doubtful starter for the second. His absence comes at a critical juncture, with the five-time champions yet to open their account this season after three successive defeats.Rehab in Chennai, return timeline unclearDhoni has stayed back in Chennai instead of travelling with the squad for away fixtures, including matches in Guwahati and Bengaluru. His absence during CSK’s recent home game against Punjab Kings further fuelled speculation around his fitness. The report states that Dhoni has been working closely with CSK’s support staff, including a physio and masseur, as part of his recovery programme. He has also resumed light training, including a recent batting session at the nets, but is yet to reach match fitness.“MS is undergoing rehab and it will take some time. We can’t say how much time,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, indicating there is no fixed timeline for his return.CSK struggle without their talismanDhoni’s unavailability has coincided with a poor start for CSK, who are currently enduring one of their worst openings to an IPL campaign. The franchise’s only worse start came in 2022, when they lost their first four matches. While the team has depth, the absence of their most experienced figure has left a visible gap, especially in crunch situations.Interestingly, Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Heinrich Klaasen offered a contrasting view, suggesting Dhoni’s absence may not drastically alter CSK’s on-field strength.“CSK has got an incredible IPL record. Even with Dhoni not being there, they are not much of a lesser side,” Klaasen said on JioStar Press Room, adding that Dhoni’s impact is felt more in leadership than in batting.

NEW DELHI: There seems to be a spring in every step Delhi Capitals are taking this season. Yes, it might be only two games so far, but with two comprehensive victories, Capitals give the impression of finally translating their potential into performance and look capable of being a team that can go the distance. The Axar Patel-led team will be eager to build on its impressive start and complete a hat-trick of victories when they face a winless Gujarat Titans on their home turf here at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday night.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!The good news for Titans is that their regular skipper Shubman Gill is fit and available to play after missing out the last game against Rajasthan Royals due to muscle spasms. Though ‘Impact Player’ Sameer Rizvi hogged the headlines with two scintillating half-centuries, it’s the performance of the bowlers that set up the twin wins for the Capitals. Their bowling unit appears to be a well-rounded one, with the pace triumvirate of Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar and T Natarajan making up for the absence of Australian speedster Mitchell Starc. Mukesh seems to have learnt quickly from his seam-bowling partner Ngidi, adopting similarly clever deceptions of pace and length which helped him peg Mumbai Indians back in the previous tie and return with impressive figures of 2/26.“If you manage to get two or three wickets in the Powerplay for around 40 runs, it will be difficult to score over 200 unless you bowl badly at the death. That’s what we have been able to do so far. The presence of Lungi Ngidi has also helped. He has variations and a good slower ball. He is putting the experience of playing in Indian conditions during the World Cup recently to good use. He also provides useful tips to his fellow pacers,” said Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel.

DC vs GT Head-to-Head

Skipper Axar has not been afraid to bring himself on or use leg-spinning allrounder Vipraj Nigam in the Powerplay. The dexterity of left-arm wrist-spin bowler Kuldeep Yadav has helped the Capitals maintain pressure on their rivals even in the middle overs. The only tinge of worry for the Capitals would be the cheap returns of their top-order batters KL Rahul and Nitish Rana in the first two matches. Rahul, with scores of 0 and 1 and Rana, with 15 and 0, will be keen to repay the faith shown in them by the team management, who have offered them their favoured batting slots. The Titans will be smarting from the defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the previous encounter as they choked during the run chase. Their bowling attack, comprising Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, Ashok Sharma, Prasidh Krishna and experienced spinner Rashid Khan looks intimidating on paper but has been guilty of leaking runs. For Titans to come out of their slump, it is imperative that the batting clicks in unison. Hopefully, Gill will be out there leading them from the front.NUMBER GAMES

NEW DELHI: MS Dhoni could be on the verge of a much-anticipated return for Chennai Super Kings, with the veteran set to undergo a crucial fitness test ahead of their IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals on Saturday. The 44-year-old has missed the opening matches of the season due to a calf strain sustained during the preparatory camp. With CSK reeling from three consecutive defeats, his possible comeback comes as a timely boost for a side searching for stability and leadership.

Fitness test to decide Dhoni’s comeback

According to an IndianExpress report, Dhoni will undergo a fitness assessment over the next two days, which will determine his availability for the Chepauk fixture. The franchise has so far adopted a cautious approach, resisting the temptation to rush him back despite his steady progress in training.Although Dhoni has not travelled with the squad for away matches and was absent at the stadium during the home game against Punjab Kings, he has remained actively involved in practice sessions. Ahead of that fixture, he spent considerable time batting at the MAC B ground and later trained at the main stadium nets without showing signs of discomfort. The signs have been encouraging, but the team management is keen to ensure full recovery before bringing him back into match action. If he clears the fitness test, Dhoni is likely to feature in what could be a turning point fixture for CSK.

Brevis edges closer, middle order boost likely

Alongside Dhoni, Dewald Brevis is also nearing a return after recovering from a side strain. The young middle-order batter has missed the first three matches but has been travelling with the squad, indicating progress in his rehabilitation.Head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that Brevis is “closer” to regaining full fitness. “We hope he is going to be right for the next game. We have been conservative, and hopefully these next few days go as planned,” Fleming said.Brevis’ return would significantly strengthen a fragile middle order that has struggled for consistency in his absence.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has weighed in strongly on the growing scrutiny surrounding Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka, cautioning that repeated on-field interactions with players could disrupt the team’s internal balance. The debate intensified after Lucknow’s defeat to Delhi Capitals, where Goenka was seen in a visibly animated discussion with skipper Rishabh Pant. The visuals quickly went viral, drawing comparisons to the widely discussed fallout with KL Rahul during the 2024 season. In an attempt to control the narrative, LSG later released what they described as an “unfiltered” clip of the interaction. However, the move did little to silence speculation, with some fans questioning the authenticity of the footage and suggesting it may not have been the original exchange. Reacting to the situation, Vaughan criticised the optics of such conversations taking place in public view immediately after matches, stressing that even harmless discussions can be misinterpreted. “I’m intrigued by this franchise, I must admit. I look from quite far away, and I keep seeing things on social media, and I see the owner on the pitch with Rishabh, with Tom Moody, Justin Langer. I hate seeing that. I just hate seeing it after one game on the pitch. You can have those conversations in private. And even if they’re nice conversations, I just don’t understand them because what you’re doing is leading people to suggest that other things are said in that group that maybe aren’t. It might have just been a fun conversation, who knows? But yeah, they’re an interesting franchise. But I think the Lucknow wheels could get quite loose quite quickly,” he said on Cricbuzz. Vaughan further emphasised the importance of clarity within the leadership group, particularly around Pant’s role, suggesting that any decision should be backed consistently rather than changed frequently. “Often quotes are taken out of context, but if there is even a hint of confusion in the group, then clarity is key. If the decision is for Rishabh to take on that role alongside Mitch, it should be backed for five or six games,” he added. Interestingly, Pant responded on the field in LSG’s very next outing against Sunrisers Hyderabad. After a modest return against Delhi, the skipper produced a composed yet authoritative unbeaten 68 off 50 balls to guide his side home in a tense chase of 157. The innings stood out not just for the result but for the control Pant showed. On a slightly slow surface, he balanced caution with aggression, finishing the game in style by taking on Jaydev Unadkat in the final over when 9 runs were needed. Two crisp boundaries, including a forehand-like slap and a lofted drive, sealed a five-wicket win with one ball to spare. Earlier in the match, Mohammed Shami had set up the victory with a masterful spell of 2 for 9, dismantling SRH’s top order with clever variations and relentless accuracy. Despite a strong recovery from Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy, SRH’s total of 156 proved insufficient. Pant’s knock, coupled with Shami’s brilliance, helped LSG regain momentum, but off-field questions around leadership dynamics and management involvement continue to linger as the season progresses.

NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma added another milestone to his name during Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, even though his innings was a modest 35 runs. The experienced opener hit five fours and a six before getting out, but that one six was enough to put him in the record books. With that shot, Rohit became the Indian player with the most sixes against a single team in IPL history. He now has 51 sixes against Delhi Capitals, going past MS Dhoni’s previous record of 50 sixes against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

This achievement highlights Rohit’s consistency and dominance over the years, especially against Delhi. While he didn’t play a big innings in the match, the milestone stood out as a significant personal achievement.Globally, the record still belongs to Chris Gayle, who has smashed the most sixes against a single team in IPL history. Among Indian batters, Rohit now leads the list, followed by Dhoni and Virat Kohli.Rohit also came close to another big milestone, 6000 runs for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, but he fell just short of eleven runs. Despite that, his record-breaking six added another feather to his already impressive career.Even on a day without a big score, Rohit managed to make headlines, proving once again why he remains one of the most impactful players in IPL history. In the match, Sameer Rizvi smashed a brilliant 90 off 51 balls to guide Delhi Capitals to a comfortable six-wicket win over Mumbai Indians. Mumbai posted a modest 162/6, with Rohit Sharma (35), Suryakumar Yadav, and Naman Dhir (28) being the main contributors, while Mukesh Kumar (2/26) struck early blows.Chasing 163, Delhi lost KL Rahul and Nitish Rana cheaply, but Pathum Nissanka’s quick 44 steadied the innings. Rizvi then took control, hitting seven sixes and seven fours, as Delhi chased down the target in just 18.1 overs.

Bharat Arun’s brief at Lucknow Super Giants was clear: rebuild the team’s bowling identity. The early indicators are encouraging.

Mohammed Shami, recruited from Sunrisers Hyderabad, led the charge against Delhi Capitals alongside Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav, pushing the side into a corner within the PowerPlay. While the lack of runs eventually allowed the Capitals to claw back, it shouldn’t overshadow the progress LSG’s bowling unit is visibly making.

“T20 is batter-friendly. They are expected to play big shots and that’s what the crowds come for. But I strongly feel there is a challenge for the bowlers. It is also an opportunity for them to come good and become a hero. Under batting circumstances, a bowler needs to trust his abilities to be able to do well,” Arun expressed.

He also downplayed concerns over the absence of Digvesh Rathi, LSG’s leading wicket-taker last season (14), against Capitals.

“Rathi did not play because we wanted an extra batter. He is a fantastic bowler. He has done exceptionally well for us in the past and he would be one of our main spinners going ahead.”

Arun also spoke about the team’s batting combinations, especially at the top of the order, where Rishabh Pant opened the innings – just the second time he has done so in IPL. The move didn’t pay dividends, as Pant managed just seven runs off nine balls.

“Strategies change all the time. I think the first four places should be very dynamic. We do understand that Mitch (Marsh) and (Aiden) Markram were a good opening pair for us. But sometimes, strategically, these changes do happen.”

‘Hard work is paying off’: Sameer Rizvi after stellar 90 runs knock vs Mumbai Indians | Cricket News – The Times of India
Sameer Rizvi credits practice after stellar 90

Delhi Capitals (DC) batter Sameer Rizvi credited his intense self-improvement for his match-winning knock against Mumbai Indians (MI) in their IPL 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.Rizvi’s scintillating 90 off 51 balls powered DC to a six-wicket win over MI on Saturday. His innings featured seven fours and seven sixes as Delhi chased down a target of 163 comfortably. The victory marked DC’s second win over MI in their last seven IPL encounters. It was also only their second win in six matches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium since 2025, with the other coming in a Super Over against Rajasthan Royals.Named Player of the Match, Rizvi reflected on the effort he has put in over the past year to refine his game.“I have worked very hard on myself. Since last year, there have been many changes. I identified my weaknesses, especially against fast bowlers, and worked on them throughout the year. The hard work is paying off now,” Rizvi said.He also highlighted the importance of adapting to match situations. “I always try to play according to the situation. At the start, our situation required patience, so I took my time. Once I got settled, I played my shots and focused on watching the ball till the very end,” he added.Speaking about handling different match scenarios, Rizvi emphasized the value of settling in at the crease. “Whenever I come in under pressure, I try to give myself time. Once you are set, you understand the situation better and batting becomes easier,” he explained. The youngster also acknowledged the significance of performing in the IPL. “Yes, this is a very important time for any player because if you score runs and bat well here, you gain confidence. You also get opportunities to move ahead, to play more, and to get chances on bigger platforms. So sir, it is a very good thing for us youngsters,” he said.

Debut in IPL 2024

Rizvi first grabbed attention in IPL 2024 when he smashed a six off his very first ball against Rashid Khan while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). After a modest start to his IPL career, he has now found his rhythm with Delhi Capitals, registering three consecutive half-centuries.In his first eight IPL innings, Rizvi managed just 114 runs at an average of 16.3. However, in his last three matches, the right-hander has turned things around dramatically, amassing 218 runs, including three fifties. Rizvi’s knock was historic in multiple ways. His 90 is the second-highest score by an Impact Player in IPL history, behind Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 107 against KKR in 2024.It is also the third-highest individual score by a DC batter against MI, after Virender Sehwag’s 95* in 2013 and Jason Roy’s 91* in 2018. Additionally, his seven sixes are the joint-most by a DC batter against MI, equalling the records of Rishabh Pant (2019) and Tristan Stubbs (2024).With 160 runs in just two innings this season, Rizvi now holds the Orange Cap, underlining his explosive start to IPL 2026.

NEW DELHI: At the halfway mark, Rohit Sharma said the pitch was difficult to bat on and backed Mumbai Indians’ bowlers to defend 162 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. His words almost proved to be prophetic.Chasing 163, Delhi Capitals needed 90 runs in the last ten overs with well-set Pathum Nissanka back in the hut. But Sameer Rizvi, Delhi’s hero in their last match against Lucknow Super Giants, took them home again with another sublime knock. Rizvi struggled initially and was 11 off 17 balls at one stage. The 22-year-old broke free with a six off Corbin Bosch in the ninth over. However, the match remained in the balance as Mitchell Santner dismissed Pathum Nissanka. The Sri Lanka opener, who scored a fluent 44 off 30 balls, top-edged one, with Mayank Markande taking a good catch at short fine leg.Rizvi then shifted gears in the next over, taking 20 runs off Corbin Bosch. He handled every variation with ease, dispatching slower balls, short deliveries and fuller ones alike, even managing a maximum off a mistimed shot.He smashed back-to-back sixes off Mayank Markande to complete his second consecutive fifty this season and his third in a row for the franchise, reaching the milestone in 32 balls.Jasprit Bumrah briefly pulled things back with a one-run over, but Delhi were firmly in control by then. Rizvi continued his assault on Deepak Chahar and later combined with David Miller for a 50-run stand in just 26 balls, with Miller contributing only one run.Rizvi looked unstoppable, taking apart Shardul Thakur for 17 runs in an over. Miller then joined in with a couple of elegant boundaries off Bumrah.Rizvi eventually departed after a brilliant 90 off 51 balls, receiving a standing ovation from the Delhi crowd, his teammates and even the opposition. And by then time, he got out it was a mere formality.

A dry afternoon

On the eve of the match, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene and Delhi Capitals spinner Kuldeep Yadav had expressed similar views that the Arun Jaitley Stadium pitch would be batting-friendly. However, it turned out to be a two-paced surface.Mumbai Indians were without their regular captain Hardik Pandya, who missed the match due to a viral infection. Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and opted to chase. After being put in to bat, Mumbai Indians got off to a shaky start, with Mukesh Kumar removing Ryan Rickelton (9) and Tilak Varma (0) in the third over. Mukesh initially searched for swing but adjusted his length in his next over to pick up both wickets.

Rohit Sharma then joined stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav, and the pair steadied the innings. Mumbai Indians were 41 for 2 at the end of the powerplay. The duo rotated strike well and added 53 runs for the third wicket before Rohit fell for 35 in the 10th over, dismissed by Axar Patel. After Rohit’s departure, Suryakumar continued to anchor the innings and brought up his fifty in 35 balls, but was dismissed on 51 off the very next delivery by Lungi Ngidi. Sherfane Rutherford had a brief stay, scoring five before getting caught in the deep.Next in, Naman Dhir scored a fine 28 before falling in the penultimate over. Mitchell Santner and Corbin Bosch struck a few boundaries towards the end, helping Mumbai Indians post 162 for 6.

But Kuldeep Yadav handled it with remarkable calm.Whether it was carrying drinks, relaying the coach’s messages, bringing out bats, or applauding teammates with a smile, Kuldeep stayed fully involved with the team despite not being in the playing XI.In the recently-concluded T20 World Cup, where India lifted the title after defeating New Zealand in the final, teams often opted for spin-heavy combinations. Kuldeep was expected to play a bigger role, but that didn’t materialise.

Sameer Rizvi on batting approach: simple mindset, big impact for DC

India played eight matches in the tournament, including the final, but Kuldeep featured in just one game — the high-profile clash against Pakistan. He bowled three overs, conceded 14 runs and picked up one wicket. After that, he did not get another opportunity in the playing XI.Ahead of the IPL 2026 clash between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, Kuldeep spoke about dealing with the challenge of being benched.“Preparation becomes crucial, especially when you’re not getting games. I made sure there was no gap in my preparation so that whenever an opportunity came, I was ready,” Kuldeep told reporters ahead of the DC vs MI clash in New Delhi.“Even if you’re not playing, being with the team, attending practice sessions, and maintaining that match-ready mindset is important. Whether you play or not, your approach should always be that you’re ready for the next game,” he added.“Confidence comes from preparation. If your training and routines are in place, you will naturally feel confident, even though a bit of nervousness is always there,” Kuldeep said.Kuldeep also highlighted the importance of planning against batters.“Planning against batters is constant; you assess where they want to score and how they might approach you. With new batters, it becomes more challenging, but overall, preparation is what builds confidence,” he added. The 31-year-old is now eager to make his mark in IPL 2026.In Delhi Capitals’ opening match against Lucknow Super Giants, Kuldeep delivered a solid performance, picking up two wickets for 31 runs in four overs. He dismissed Mitchell Marsh and Mukul Choudhary in that game.He will now be up against Mumbai Indians in the upcoming clash.Kuldeep stressed the importance of sticking to one’s strengths, especially in the T20 format.“It’s very important for spinners to hold on to their strengths. Whenever batters put you under pressure, you tend to forget your strength. You look for a safer option to get out of that situation,” Kuldeep said.“If you are an attacking spinner, don’t let that go. Because that is your identity, and if you are doing that work for the team, taking wickets, there can be nothing better than that. Your mindset should be attacking,” he added.“Young spinners think that these are high-scoring matches and runs will be hit. Yes, you will be hit for runs because this is the T20 format. But you have to plan accordingly and be ready. It is not necessary that in four overs you will concede 40-45 runs. If there is a player who dominates, then it happens, or the wicket is very good for batting,” he said.
