They Never Gave Up on Cat Found Clinging to a Building, Now Her Whole World Has Transformed PuppyKittyNYCity

Last summer, a tabby cat was spotted clinging to the side of a building, perched precariously on a narrow ledge just outside a window.

She endured sweltering heat followed by a relentless downpour. When volunteers from PuppyKittyNYCity learned about her situation, they sprang into action. “She was found trapped on a rooftop, alone, terrified, and with nowhere to go,” PuppyKittyNYCity shared.

With the city shelter closed to intake at the time, many animals like her had nowhere to turn.

Each day brought new challenges, but the rescue team was determined to get this cat to safety.

The fire department arrived to assist with the rescue. Using a wooden chair, they carefully guided the cat down, while rescuers waited below, ready to catch her. Thanks to the coordinated efforts, the cat was finally secured in a carrier and on her way to a new beginning.

After her long ordeal, the cat, named Fiddler, was exhausted. She pressed herself into the corner behind her carrier, too frightened to let anyone near.

Rescuers soon realized she had long fur, though her weather-worn coat had disguised it. No one knew how she had ended up stranded on that rooftop, but she was finally safe, with access to food, water, and care.

“We don’t know how long she was up there, but we do know she survived something no cat should ever have to endure.”

After a few days of rest and a visit to the vet, Fiddler was spayed and received the medical attention she needed. Free from hunger and protected from the harsh elements, her eyes softened, and the tension in her posture began to ease.

The rescue team created a cozy space where Fiddler could learn to trust. Little by little, she stopped hiding from visitors. Then one day, as she lay curled up in her bed, she allowed a volunteer to gently pet her.

“She’s quiet, gentle, and learning that humans can be kind. What she needs most is patience, a calm home, and someone willing to let her open up at her own pace.”

For the first time, she could sleep without fear, no longer worrying about her surroundings or where her next meal would come from.

Over the following months, her body filled out, and her coat grew soft, full, and radiant. A fluffy mane formed around her neck, perfectly complementing her long ear tufts.

As weeks turned into months, she continued to wait for the right family willing to give her the time she needed to come out of her shell. “Shy cats are often overlooked, but they feel just as deeply and love just as hard once they feel safe.”

These days, Fiddler enjoys exploring the shelter and lounging comfortably. While she remains shy around people, she gets along well with other cats.

Because of those who refused to walk away, Fiddler will never again face hunger or the harsh realities of life outdoors. She has transformed into a stunning cat, with a luxurious coat and a soft, gentle heart.

“She deserves more than survival, more than spending her life in our shelter. She deserves a home where she’ll never be left behind again.”

Wayne and Garth: Overcoming Obstacles Together – Wayne and Garth: Overcoming Obstacles Together

Wayne and Garth: Overcoming Obstacles Together – Wayne and Garth: Overcoming Obstacles Together

As 6-month-olds in our Forgotten Kitten Project, they needed stability, patience, and time for their confidence to develop in a way that adopters could see.

First, we addressed both of their respiratory infections, then we focused on their more chronic medical issues that limited their quality of life. Garth had entropion, a painful genetic condition where the eyelids turn inward and eyelashes rub against the eye. In our care, he received corrective eye surgery. He had painfully rotted teeth that made eating difficult, so we got him dental surgery. Wayne’s eyes were unusual too — he had corneal damage that wasn’t painful, and wasn’t severe enough to require surgery at the time, but would need monitoring for signs of deterioration.

Then, we began focusing on the bigger picture: what would it take for these cats to build the courage needed to become adoptable?

One way for cats to develop trust is to see trusting behavior modeled by other cats, so we placed them in our free-roaming space for some social learning. Although Wayne and Garth settled into our Cat Zone quickly, they struggled to attract adopters. They remained hesitant around people, which the average guest could quickly perceive as “not interested” or “not friendly.” We could see they would need more predictable interactions to adjust at their own pace, so we decided to try another approach and give them more time.

Alyssa, a volunteer with Liberation Cat House, was helping with TNR (trap-neuter-return) efforts for community cats when she learned that one of them needed extra care.

A young gray-and-white cat was severely congested from an upper respiratory infection. She had no appetite and refused medication mixed into her food. Believing she was feral, one of the rescuers put on a protective glove as she attempted to give her the medicine.

“To our surprise, she just started purring,” Alyssa told Love Meow.

Everyone was stunned, including the colony caretaker, who had never been able to get close enough to touch her. With proper treatment and plenty of rest, the cat, named Nova, regained her appetite and began to heal.

“I think she knew she needed help, so she let down her walls.”

cat before after rescue Alyssa @orlandofosterkittens

“Nova was a little hissy for the first couple of days, but she’d start purring the second you touched her. She just needed a second to remember that humans were safe.”

She quickly discovered the comforts of indoor life: soft blankets, warm beds, and nourishing meals. It was a world away from the outdoor conditions she had endured. After a few gentle pets, she would melt into a puddle of purrs, leaning into Alyssa for more affection.

“Nova and I really bonded through her sickness. She wouldn’t have survived much longer without intervention, and I think she could sense that this was her chance at a better life. I can tell she is a very grateful little kitty.”

As the infection cleared from her nose and eyes, Nova’s beautiful personality began to shine.

She started greeting her foster mom with full-body stretches, accompanied by a deep, rumbling purr. Whenever Alyssa stroked her back, Nova would turn toward her and stretch out her toes across Alyssa’s hand.

“Now she spends her days making biscuits on soft blankets and eating all the yummy snacks.”

In less than ten days, Nova gained a full pound. Her energy doubled, and her affection seemed to multiply. “Just one week can make a world of difference. It really shows how hard outdoor life is on their little bodies.”

Her once flea- and tick-ridden fur transformed into a soft, silky coat that felt like velvet.

“Her eyes, once crusted shut from infection, are now bold and beautiful. And her once fearful personality is now oozing with sweetness. She greets me at the door with the cutest little chirps of excitement.”

With growing confidence, Nova is discovering the joy of play. She chases toy mice and pounces on springs with enthusiasm.

But her favorite thing in the world is still being loved by her people.

After wandering the streets for so long, Nova seeks affection whenever she can, as if trying to make up for lost time. Alyssa often walks into the room to find Nova purring up a storm, her paws kneading the air as she waits for belly rubs.

The “feral” cat turned out to be a complete sweetheart with a wonderfully lovable personality.

Cat Finally Trades Outdoor Life for Comforts of a Home, and He Couldn’t Be Happier

A cat who spent a long time living outdoors has finally traded street life for the comforts of a home, and he couldn’t be happier.

Cat Finally Trades Outdoor Life for Comforts of a Home, and He Couldn’t Be Happier GeorgieSara at Tails High

For a long time, Georgie the cat wandered the streets of a community, relying on the kindness of people to survive.

He was remarkably friendly and quickly won over people with his sweet nature and irresistibly round cheeks. “This friendly boy was rescued from a cat colony at a senior living facility in DC, which feels like a perfect origin story for him,” shared Tails High, a volunteer-run rescue.

Last month, Georgie finally left the streets behind and began an exciting new chapter indoors.

When rescuers saw just how affectionate Georgie was, they knew he deserved so much more. The team at Tails High took him in, and one of their foster volunteers, Sara, welcomed him into her home.

“He’s absolutely as sweet as can be and so happy to be inside,” Sara shared.

From the moment he arrived, Georgie seemed completely at ease, soaking up attention and enjoying every bit of his newfound comfort.

“He has the calm, relaxed charm of someone who enjoys the simple pleasures in life and keeps good company wherever he goes,” the rescue said. “Georgie has officially traded colony life for the comforts of indoors, and he’s absolutely blooming.”

When Sara placed a fresh blanket on the floor, Georgie walked over and plopped himself down. As soon as his paws touched the fabric, he began kneading it like a little baker, eventually slipping into a blissful trance.

Soon, the room was filled with the deep rumble of his purrs. “His biscuits are truly a work of art.”

Once Georgie was given free rein of the house, he decided that the kitchen was his favorite place to be.

He happily follows his foster mom as she goes about her chores. While she prepares dinner, he watches every step with curious eyes. When dishes pile up in the sink, he parks himself nearby as if ready to lend a helping paw. In his own endearing way, he makes sure the kitchen runs smoothly every day.

Whenever a cabinet door opens, Georgie insists on an inspection. Every shelf and corner must receive official feline approval as he makes his daily rounds.

“He may still be in training, though, so don’t be surprised if he shadows you in the kitchen while you unpack groceries, check the fridge, wash the dishes, or start making dinner. Georgie likes to make sure everything is done just right.”

Georgie has blossomed into the perfect companion, brightening every room he enters. When Sara comes home from work, he greets her with affectionate head bumps and gentle purrs. But the moment the fridge opens, he hops inside for a quick check to ensure everything meets his standards.

He clearly takes his role as kitchen supervisor very seriously.

The resident cats, Wilford and Callie, have warmly accepted Georgie, who absolutely adores their company. He shows off his impressive biscuit-making skills and happily curls up beside them whenever he can.

“After spending time outside, he does not take the comforts of home for granted. Soft blankets, cozy beds, and snuggling with his foster cat friends are at the top of his daily agenda when he is not busy playing.”

Now, he rules the house, lounging in comfort like a pampered king. “All he needs is a forever home where he can continue to blossom.”

Stray Cat Follows a Woman to Her Apartment Building, Then ‘Invites’ Himself into Her Home Yong Li

Yong Li was on her way home when an unexpected encounter stopped her in her tracks.

A young cat came trotting from down the street, weaving between her legs and brushing against her ankles. “I was on my phone when he suddenly popped up in front of me, meowing for attention,” Yong told Love Meow.

Having rescue cats of her own, Yong noticed something special about this stray. “He was fearful of other passersby, but for some reason, he was very friendly with me.”

Their first encounter was brief, but Yong couldn’t stop thinking about the little guy. She found herself looking for him whenever she came home. “I didn’t see him again until a few days later. Around midnight, he showed up again, and this time he followed me all the way to my apartment building.”

No one had come forward to claim him, and it was clear he had been living outside for quite some time. Seeing how affectionate he was, Yong knew he deserved better. “I said to him, ‘If you let me, I’d be happy to adopt you.'”

As Yong entered the building and headed toward the elevator, the cat paused at the entrance. The unfamiliar hallway must have felt intimidating. He gathered his courage and padded inside, wrapping his tail around Yong’s legs for reassurance.

When the elevator door opened, he studied it for a moment before dashing in. “He walked into the elevator on his own, even though everything must have smelled unfamiliar to him.”

Once inside the apartment, the hungry little one devoured a full plate of food, as if he hadn’t had a proper meal in days. He quickly settled into his new surroundings. That night, he curled up in a basket by the window and fell fast asleep.

“I woke up the next morning to him greeting me from his nap spot.”

After a much-needed spa day, the cat, named Didi, felt brand new. His coat was clean, soft, and gleaming.

From the very beginning, Didi carried a quiet confidence. He followed Yong from room to room, inspecting every corner and claiming cozy spots along the way. When he briefly met the other resident cats, he acted as if he had always lived there.

On the second day, as Yong relaxed on the couch in the living room, Didi hopped up and settled into her lap. All he wanted was to stay close to his human. Curled up contentedly, he dozed off to the sound of the television.

“He lets me cuddle him whenever I want and won’t leave my lap.”

With the resident cats warming up to him, he is starting to join them on the couch, making himself an official part of the crew. Completely at ease, he flops down beside them, as if he’s always belonged.

Little by little, he’s charming his way into their hearts.

In just a few days, Didi has taken on multiple roles in the apartment. He’s a TV companion, an office assistant, a kitchen supervisor, and above all, a loyal friend. He enjoys all the food he could ever want, new toys, and plenty of cozy beds. In return, he showers his human with affection tenfold.

After roaming the streets for so long, Didi is overjoyed to be safe, pampered, and loved.

February Adoption Stories – February Adoption Stories

Each month, we’re glad to have this honor of introducing you to the cats who’ve come to Cat Town, and their stories. Some are shy, some playful, and some need a little extra care before they’re ready for their next chapter. With patience, medical attention, encouragement — and your support — these cats can feel comfort, grow confident, and show adopters who they truly are.

We celebrated 22 adoptions in February. Here are just a few of the success stories you helped us bring to life.

A dedicated cat colony caretaker reached out to the rescue community about a tabby who wasn’t doing well.

Kate, a foster volunteer with Tails High, saw the plea and didn’t hesitate to help. The cat, named Herbert, or Herbie, instantly reminded her of another foster cat, Rupert. Both shared the same sweet little smile and soulful eyes.

Serendipitously, Herbie was rescued on the two-year anniversary of Rupert’s gotcha day. “It feels like a sign,” Kate shared.

When Herbie arrived in foster care, he was understandably timid and overwhelmed by all the changes. He spent much of his time hiding, quietly observing as he tried to make sense of his new surroundings. Despite his fear, he’d look up at his foster mom with soft, gentle eyes.

The caretaker had been especially worried about his mouth. “It turns out he only has one tooth left.”

With a quiet environment and nourishing meals, Herbie began to relax. He poked his head out of his cubby bed, taking in all the new sights and smells. As curiosity replaced fear, he found the courage to explore and even seek out affection.

After a few days, Herbie finally came out of his shell.

He stepped out of his hiding spot and walked straight up to Kate, gently nudging her for pets. For the first time in a long while, Herbie truly felt safe. His purr motor roared to life as he leaned into his foster mom, soaking up every bit of love.

Once he realized he no longer had to hide, he couldn’t get enough snuggles.

The first time Herbie cuddled in bed, he closed his eyes in pure contentment, wrapped in his foster mom’s embrace. “He and adoptable Nona (another foster cat) sniffed each other a bit, then he hopped up on the bed and slept next to me all night.”

He rubbed against his foster mom, his purrs so loud that the whole room seemed to hum.

“Over the last several weeks, Herbie has seen our vet team, and we’ve learned more about him. How we wish these kitties could talk and tell us their stories,” Tails High shared. “It’s clear that Herbie once enjoyed life indoors and was loved, based on how quickly he has blossomed in his foster home.”

Estimated to be seven to eight years old, Herbie is now on a much healthier path. While he continues receiving care to get back to tip-top shape, he’s savoring every moment of his new life.

Herbie has transformed into a total love bug who always wants to be close to his human. He’s the first thing Kate sees each morning, snuggled right on top of her. He keeps her company while she reads, offering affectionate head boops and serving as the most adorable page holder.

“He is such a sweetheart, and we’re so glad he’s indoors with Kate as we look at the snow outside.”

“With more veterinary care, a dental for his one remaining tooth, and time, we’re hopeful he’ll be ready to find the forever home he deserves. We know that blep of his will have adopters lining up around the block.”

Herbie decided to share a snuggle session with his roommate, Strega Nona, who had survived five winters outside before being rescued.

Ambrose, a dark-brown cat with a charmingly cross-eyed gaze, arrived at the Humane Society, hoping for a second chance at life.

When it became clear that he needed more care than the shelter could provide, Thrifted Kittens Animal Rescue, a volunteer-run organization, didn’t hesitate to help. “He arrived with chronic respiratory issues, and unfortunately, they didn’t improve with treatment in the shelter, so we said yes to taking him in,” the rescue shared.

With proper medication, nourishing meals, and an abundance of love, Ambrose began to turn a corner.

For most of his life, Ambrose had lived as an indoor/outdoor TNR cat until his owner passed away. Friendly and eager to please, he was full of charm and whimsy. During his recovery, he was settled into a quiet room where he could rest, heal, and adjust to life indoors.

With the help of a specialist and dedicated volunteers, Ambrose was nursed back to health. Before long, he fully embraced his cozy new life as a house cat.

After nearly six months in foster care, Ambrose hadn’t received much adoption interest, despite multiple social media posts. It was baffling—everyone who met him was instantly smitten by his endearing quirks and larger-than-life personality.

“He is super sweet, loves snuggles and attention, and wants to play with any toy ever invented.”

By then, Ambrose had overcome his lingering respiratory issues and no longer required specialized care. He had reached many milestones and even celebrated his sixth birthday with his foster family.

The only thing left on his wish list was a place to call his own. Just before New Year’s Eve, the rescue shared his story once again, hoping it would finally reach the right people.

They Found Blind Cat Wandering the Streets, Determined to Save Him, Now He’s Living Like a King ChatonsOrphelinsMontreal

A few months ago, community members who care for local strays noticed a new face in the colony: a blind, round-cheeked tom struggling to survive outdoors.

As they searched for help, the cat narrowly avoided being struck by passing cars. A kind-hearted woman rushed to his aid, scooped him up, and carried him to safety. He didn’t fight or panic, allowing himself to be placed into a carrier.

When she noticed his right eye was bulging, she took him to the vet.

With the support of the community, the woman was able to secure medical care for the cat, who was named Gavroche. It came as no surprise when he tested FIV+. His body bore the scars of a hard life spent on the streets.

Cats with FIV can live long, healthy lives when provided with proper care and a safe, indoor environment.

Chatons Orphelins Montreal, an all-volunteer rescue, welcomed Gavroche with open arms. With the streets behind him, he would never again have to fend for himself. “Gavroche was incredibly lucky to survive outside without being able to see,” the rescue shared.

“He went to his foster home, where he could finally rest and begin to heal.”

Although his right eye couldn’t be saved, Gavroche was freed from infection and pain. He was fully vetted, neutered, and received a much-needed dental procedure to remove several broken teeth. With medication, comfort, and plenty of love, he began eating again.

He was understandably shy at first, but he showed no signs of aggression.

“Gavroche is a gentle soul. It took time and patience to earn his trust, but as socialization progressed, his sweet nature resurfaced.”

Once he realized he no longer had to fear, he warmed up to his foster family. He leaned into head scritches, sought out attention, and even flopped onto his side with his fluffy belly on full display, soaking up every ounce of affection he could get.

Though Gavroche is a large-framed cat estimated to be around three years old, he’s still a kitten at heart. “He’s incredibly endearing and easy to love. He seemed unfazed by his past, as if he knows those difficult days are behind him.”

He’s blossomed into a true love bug, constantly seeking affection and never getting enough pets.

Gavroche has the temperament of a teddy bear: soft, gentle, and sweet. Being blind doesn’t hold him back. He navigates his surroundings by carefully mapping the house with his other senses. “He has excellent reflexes. He explores new places slowly and always manages to find cozy nooks and crannies for naps.”

He’s also befriended the other friendly cats in the house, charming everyone with his calm, gentle presence.

Gavroche continues to improve every day. He’s becoming more confident and truly enjoys being petted.

“He can still feel anxious when things are unfamiliar or too busy, and he thrives on routine. Speaking to him before approaching helps reassure him and puts him at ease. This way of communicating helps him feel safe in his environment.”

After many years outside, a cat tried home life for the first time, found trust, and never looked back.

After Many Years Outside Cat Tries Home Life for the First Time, Finds Trust, and Never Looks Back TigrouChatonsOrphelinsMontreal

For years, a tabby cat roamed the streets, blending into the neighborhood and surviving on the kindness of a caring family.

They set up shelters on their porch for stray cats and provided food and fresh water. The tabby always kept his distance, never letting anyone get close. After enduring many harsh winters, his body grew weary, and the toll of the street life began to show.

When an animal rescuer noticed the exhausted cat, she decided to take a chance on him.

stray cat streets porch ChatonsOrphelinsMontreal

Little was known about his past, but he was visibly terrified of people, carrying the weight of experiences that had left their mark on him.

With the help of a humane trap, the rescuer was able to catch him and bring him to Chatons Orphelins Montreal, a volunteer-run rescue. He received medical care and was named Tigrou, French for Tigger. “Completely lost and scared by all the changes, he had no idea that his life was about to change for the better,” the rescue shared.

porch stray cat streets ChatonsOrphelinsMontreal

At the vet clinic, Tigrou retreated to a corner of his kennel with a sad look on his face. He was estimated to be around eight years old and had been living with a severely infected mouth. “Every meal must have been painful for him.”

After a much-needed dental procedure, Tigrou recovered beautifully. Though he was left with very few teeth, he was finally free from pain.

shy tabby cat kennel ChatonsOrphelinsMontreal

When Tigrou arrived at his foster home, he began learning how to live alongside humans for the first time. Terrified, he hid in corners or tucked himself under furniture.

His foster family gave him all the time and space he needed, allowing him to adjust at his own pace. Slowly, Tigrou started to warm up to them. “After years of wandering alone outside, everything was new to him. But with positive reinforcement, trust began to grow.”

tabby cat learns trust ChatonsOrphelinsMontreal

Treats became the key that showed Tigrou human hands weren’t something to fear. Little by little, the distance between him and his people shrank, and eventually, he allowed touch. “We even catch him rolling onto his back and playing with catnip toys. He’s making progress every day and gradually coming out of his shell.”

“He’s had such a difficult life, but now he’s learning what it feels like to be cherished.”

tabby cat adjusting home ChatonsOrphelinsMontreal

As his fear faded, curiosity took its place. Tigrou began exploring his surroundings, inspecting rooms, and claiming cozy spots as his own.

He now strolls through the house with growing confidence. “When he thinks we’re not watching, he plays on his own with toys and curls up to nap by the window. He’s sweet and gentle. We’re starting to see his teddy-bear personality come through.”

tabby cat exploring ChatonsOrphelinsMontreal

With warm beds and hearty meals, Tigrou continues to blossom. While sudden movements can still startle him and he sometimes seeks out a hiding spot, he’s becoming more comfortable each day and has embraced his role as the house supervisor.

He enjoys watching birds and neighbors through the window, completely content with the comforts of indoor life.

Thanks to those who gave him a fresh start, Tigrou is truly thriving.

Instead of hiding in makeshift shelters, he now sinks into his fluffy bed for naps, no longer sleeping with one eye open. The fear that once clouded his face has faded, replaced by slow blinks and soft purrs shared with the people he trusts.
