Newcastle United are ready to reject a bid from Manchester United for Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports.
The 28-year-old has been a pivotal figure for Newcastle since he moved to St James’ Park in a £40 million deal from Lyon in 2022.
Guimaraes is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and Newcastle have won just two of their 16 Premier League matches without him in their side since he joined the club four years ago.
On Thursday, Reuters reported that United have made an approach to sign Guimaraes for the summer transfer window with a €80m (£69m) deal being discussed with Newcastle.
It was also reported that Casemiro had personally recommended the signing of Guimaraes to United’s hierarchy as his midfield replacement.
Casemiro is due to leave United at the end of the season when his contract expires.

However, talkSPORT reports that while Guimaraes may be on United’s shortlist, Newcastle have no intention of selling their captain.
The report adds that Newcastle are even looking to extend Guimaraes’ contract, which currently runs until 2028, in order to keep the Brazil international at the club.
Elsewhere, ESPN Brasil reports that Newcastle would be open to selling Guimaraes but United would need a bid of at least €80m (£69m).
The report also claims that Casemiro has been pushing Guimaraes’ signing behind the scenes at United but a deal with Newcastle ‘is not that advanced’.
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has issued a stark warning to his former club over the future of Bruno Guimaraes after it was suggested Manchester United were in advanced talks over a summer transfer
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has made his feelings on Bruno Guimaraes transfer speculation.
Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer has warned the Magpies they must qualify for European competition or face losing their star players.
The former Toon striker reckons that much of the coverage linking skipper Bruno Guimaraes with a departure from the club is nonsense and anticipates further rumours between now and the campaign’s conclusion.
Both the Brazil international and fellow midfielder Sandro Tonali have been connected with summer moves away from St. James’ Park, with Manchester United said to be interested in the pair. The Reds are even now reportedly in advanced talks over a £69m deal for Guimaraes, as they look for a successor to Casemiro.
Michael Carrick’s side are currently in third place and among the favourites to secure Champions League football. Newcastle, on the other hand, are currently ninth, seven points behind Liverpool in fifth place.
It’s highly likely the Premier League will be given five spots in next season’s edition of the Champions League, but Eddie Howe’s side are well off the pace.

United have a clear advantage over Newcastle in that regard, and Shearer has warned the Magpies that ‘noise’ around their key players will only get louder.
Addressing the rumours surrounding Guimaraes, Shearer told Betfair: “Newcastle have to get through the season. They have to somehow get European football, whether that’s Europa League or whether that’s the Conference League.
“They have to somehow get European football. I guess it’s been happening for the last two months. I’ve seen the reports myself now on Bruno Guimaraes. I also know that a lot of the reports are rubbish.
“If Newcastle don’t qualify for European football, then the noise around their top players will only get louder and then it becomes difficult not only to keep your top players, but also then it becomes difficult to bring top players in because top players want European football.
“So that’s going to happen more and more between now and the end of the season. If there’s any truth in it, I haven’t got a clue, but that will happen if Newcastle don’t get European football.
“That’s the same for most clubs but obviously with Newcastle, that’s what happens when you have a little taste of success. If that doesn’t continue, then that’s when the transfer talk will happen.
“There’s no difference to anyone else. It’s the same at Tottenham, it’s the same at Man United, it’s the same at Villa. Villa will have the same issues as well, there’ll be talk about Morgan Rogers.”
Guimaraes is presently sidelined with a hamstring problem, although he was spotted in Barcelona during the week observing the Magpies’ Champions League loss.
Speaking last year, the Brazilian stated: “I hope to stay much longer. I don’t know what the future brings let’s see, but I hope to play much more for Newcastle United.”
Manchester United have been linked with a wealth of talent as they look for a suitable replacement for Casemiro, with Newcastle United skipper Bruno Guimaraes now emerging as the frontrunner

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Bruno Guimaraes or Sandro Tonali from Newcastle this summer could rest on the Magpies securing or missing out on European qualification. The Reds have been linked with a number of names as they look to address issues in the heart of midfield.
And with Casemiro revealing his intentions to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, the club will scramble to find a suitable successor in the coming months. While the likes of Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton have all been brought up in conversation, Newcastle captain Guimaraes is thought to be the club’s number one priority.
As per Reuters, United are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign the 28-year-old in a £69million deal. It is also claimed that both Guimaraes’ camp and the Reds favour the move.
However, according to former Manchester United star Danny Simpson, the club could potentially retain their key talents should they manage to see Champions League or Europa League football in 2026/27. Speaking to the MEN via Gambling.com, who rank and compare licensed UK casinos, Simpson said: “I watched Tonali, he’s another one I watched that I was so impressed with.
“I think I tweeted how good I thought he was, watching him live at Man Utd last week. Didn’t realise how big he was, to be honest, and didn’t realise how well he moved with the ball, off the ball powerful.
“I think any of them top clubs are looking at him in that centre. City need one, Man Utd need one. Chelsea obviously can’t buy players.
“I think he’s one definitely people are looking at. [Tino] Livramento, again with him, playing left-back, right-back. Yes, okay, he’s had injuries this season, so we’ll see how he finishes this season.
“The other one for me is Lewis Hall. As well, I think he looks…They got him for £30million, which I think at the time raised a few eyebrows, but the way he’s developed and looks like for the next 10 years could be a top, top, top left-back in the Premier League and for England.
“They’ve got some really good players. I think the other thing is, the other clubs know the financial situation Newcastle are in. Wanting to progress and get more…
“It’s going to be an issue. It’s going to be tough to hold on to them, but it depends how they finish the season.
“Can they still get European football? If they don’t, that’s obviously when players will say to Eddie [Howe] and the club, ‘I want to play in these big nights that we’ve just played in, Barcelona, etc.’ It’ll be very tough, but I think it depends on where they finish in the league this season if they can get European football.”
A top-five Premier League finish remains as Howe’s last hope of securing European football next season, considering Newcastle were dumped out of the Champions League 8-3 on aggregate by Barcelona in the last 16 on Wednesday evening.
Given just how tight it is at the top of the table, however, and with just eight games to go, finishing around the sweet spot of the top five will undoubtedly be a tough task. As things stand, the Magpies sit ninth in the Premier League standings, seven points adrift of a fifth-place Liverpool and trailing a fourth-place Aston Villa by nine.
Up next for Newcastle is a bitter Tyne-Wear Derby with Sunderland on Sunday, March 22. Fixtures with Crystal Palace, Fulham and Arsenal make up a portion of their remaining top-flight games.
