AEW News & Rumor Roundup – Female star deletes her X account during TV absence; reason why Ricochet apologized; Mercedes Mone announcement
Welcome to the latest edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling’s AEW News & Rumor Roundup. Today, we’re covering news involving top All Elite Wrestling stars, including Ricochet and Mercedes Mone, among others.
A major female AEW star has deleted her X account. Meanwhile, an All Elite name is reportedly the reason Ricochet apologized for his recent despicable action, and Mercedes Mone’s immediate future in wrestling has been revealed. All these stories and more as we explore the top news coming out of the Jacksonville-based promotion. With that said, let’s start this roundup.
#4. Penelope Ford has deleted her X account amid her absence from AEW
Penelope Ford, part of the popular MegaBad tag team with Megan Bayne and new ally Lena Cross, has unexpectedly deactivated her X account during her absence from the Jacksonville-based promotion. The 33-year-old star had previously missed several months last year after tearing her UCL, but she worked her way back and became a top contender for the tag team championships earlier this year. Unfortunately, during a high-stakes title match last month against The Babes of Wrath, Ford hurt her ankle. While initial fears pointed to a serious injury, reports now clarify that it was just a sprain, and she is expected to return to action soon.
That said, the exact reason for her sudden X deactivation remains unknown. Meanwhile, her factionmates Megan Bayne and Lena Cross (now called the Divine Dominion) have gone on to win the AEW Women’s Tag Team titles, dethroning Babes of Wrath (Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale) at Revolution 2026.
#3. AEW coach Chris Hero reportedly asked Ricochet to delete his controversial tweet
Ricochet faced severe backlash this week after making a despicable comment directed at a fan on social media. The former National Champion lashed out at a fan diagnosed with multiple sclerosis who had criticized his acting skills after losing his title at Revolution 2026. The situation escalated to the point where the Future of Flight and his wife, Samantha Irvin, received d*ath threats, prompting Irvin to deactivate her own Instagram account. Ricochet eventually deleted the offensive tweet and issued a public apology a few days later.
While many fans believed All Elite Wrestling management officially intervened to handle the situation, reports suggest the intervention came from a more personal source. According to Fightful, former WWE star and current AEW coach Chris Hero contacted his old friend, advising Ricochet on his actions and telling him to delete the tweet.
#2. Mercedes Mone announced to defend her PTW Women’s Championship
Mercedes Mone has been absent from AEW television since the December 31st episode of Dynamite, when she announced via a taped promo that she was taking a break from the promotion after her record-breaking reign as TBS champion ended at the hands of Willow Nightingale. During her hiatus, the CEO has traveled the globe to defend her extensive collection of international championships. Unfortunately, she has faced a series of setbacks, losing titles like the TBS Championship, ROH Women’s TV Championship, and RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship. After recently dropping the BODYSLAM Scandinavian title and the Discovery Scotland women’s title to Alexxis Falcon at RevPro High Stakes, her collection has shrunk from nine belts down to just four.
Despite these losses, the erstwhile Sasha Banks remains very active and has a major appearance scheduled for the end of the month. Prime Time Wrestling announced that Mone will appear on March 29 in Poland for the PTW: More Mone, More Problems event. She is set to defend her PTW Women’s Championship against Diana Strong. Moreover, the promotion confirmed that Moné will host an official meet-and-greet earlier that day in Kozłów, near Gliwice.
#1. Swerve Strickland explains why he wants to be AEW EVP
The stakes have never been higher as the rivalry between Swerve Strickland and Kenny Omega continues ahead of their highly anticipated rematch on the March 25 episode of Dynamite. The two stars previously clashed on February 18, where Strickland scored a huge victory after hitting the Big Pressure, followed by a brutal post-match attack where he choked Omega with a chain and drove him through a table with a Vertebreaker. For their upcoming rematch, the New Flavor is fighting to claim the Cleaner’s EVP status, while Omega aims to regain Strickland’s number one contendership for the AEW World Championship.
During an exclusive interview with WhatCulture Wrestling, Strickland detailed exactly why he is gunning for corporate authority.
“The EVP power is to control outside interferences, making sure that nobody else can get in the way of my opportunities…The EVP power is just to give me the best advantage to block anything out, block anybody else from not necessarily getting into my matches, but also blocking other EVPs from mixing up control, trying to sway things into their direction and advantage. It’s about control now. That’s what Swerve in 2026 is about.” [H/T Fightful]
It remains to be seen if Swerve Strickland will become an EVP in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
