A 36-year-old St. Catharines, Ont., man is facing a second-degree murder charge after a man he allegedly assaulted died, police say.

The man was arrested and charged with assault and failing to comply with his probation following a Nov. 2 attack in St. Catharines’ Queenston area, Niagara Regional Police Service said in a news release Wednesday.

The 54-year-old victim went to hospital with serious injuries, police said. He died Dec. 15.

The 36-year-old has been in custody since November and on Wednesday, police said they charged him with murder.

Officers ask anyone with information related to the case to contact them.
