Metro Vancouver commuters may have to prepare for flurries this week, as Environment Canada says there is potential for two to five centimetres of snow.

“A cool and unstable airmass over the South Coast will bring freezing levels to near sea level before Tuesday morning,” said an Environment Canada special weather statement issued Monday morning.

Flurries or showers could result on Tuesday and Wednesday from the low freezing levels and the “approaching trough of low pressure.”

Snowfall accumulations will vary across the region, and Environment Canada said snowfall is more likely at higher elevations.

Commuters are asked to allow for extra time in the morning as travel delays are possible.

The special weather statement applies to cities including Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster, as well as the North Shore, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Surrey, Langley, Richmond and Delta.
