Some operations scheduled at the Victoria General site of Halifax’s Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre are being rescheduled or provided in a different location after a power outage at the hospital over the weekend.

On Friday at 11:30 p.m., the power went out at the Victoria General Hospital due to a problem with the backup generator.

Crews restored power at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, but operating rooms in the Victoria General’s Centennial building will be closed until the backup generator is fixed.

Nova Scotia Health is adding operating room capacity at the Halifax Infirmary site, and will redistribute or reschedule some appointments booked for Monday at the Dartmouth General Hospital, Victoria General and Halifax Infirmary.

Any patient whose appointment will be rescheduled or moved to a different location will be contacted.

Most outpatient care scheduled for the Victoria General site on Monday will continue as planned.

Nova Scotia Health said it will provide further updates if appointments scheduled for Tuesday are affected.
