Senators get 2026 first-round pick back after penalty modified
The Ottawa Senators will be picking in the first round of the 2026 draft after all.
The penalty for Ottawa’s role in an infamous invalidated trade in 2021 has been modified, as the Senators will now be selecting 32nd in the upcoming draft and fined $1 million, the league announced on Thursday.
In addition, the Senators are not permitted to trade away the rights to the 32nd pick.
Ottawa was initially forced to forfeit a first-round pick in either the 2024, 2025 or 2026 drafts after the team traded Evgenii Dadonov to the Golden Knights in July, 2021, but failed to supply Vegas with the player’s 10-team no-trade list.
