Former WWE champion expected to be out till the summer – Reports

A former WWE champion is expected to miss several months due to injury. The promotion is on the road to WrestleMania 42 next month in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, Santos Escobar is expected to miss substantial time due to his torn triceps. The veteran has already undergone surgery and is not expected to return to the ring until “late into the summer” due to his injury. Escobar worked AAA Rey de Reyes injured earlier this month, ahead of his surgery.

Santos Escobar sent a message to his fans following his surgery and simply wrote, “I’ll be back,” and several WWE Superstars responded to his message. WWE acquired AAA last year, and Escobar had been a prominent part of the promotion before his injury. He has not competed in a match on SmackDown since May 2, 2025.

WWE star Santos Escobar reacts to his injury

Santos Escobar recently revealed that he would be out of action for months and vowed to get revenge on Dr. Wagner.

In a promo for AAA, the former NXT Cruiserweight Champion provided an update on his injury. Escobar shared that he would miss a substantial amount of time and warned Wagner that he would be coming after him upon his return.

“The reason I came to AAA, Wagner, is to show you what real Lucha Libre is. That you’re not on my level and that your mask is not the most beautiful in Mexican Lucha Libre. What you did today is unforgivable. The medical report says I’ll be out for months… Months. This is what I do, to provide for my family and my legacy, and you messed with it. When I come back, because you better believe I’m coming back, I’m no longer just coming back for that title, this time, I’m coming for what you value the most, the thing you say is the most beautiful in Mexican Lucha Libre. Be careful what you wish for,” he said.
