Barcelona’s transfer stance on Julian Alvarez comes to light as they set firm price limit: Reports

Spanish giants Barcelona have reached a decision with respect to their pursuit of striker Julian Alvarez this summer, as per reports. La Blaugrana are eyeing a move for a new striker for the 2026-27 season, and have Alvarez in their sights.

According to reports from La Posesión podcast (via GOAL), Barcelona have determined that they will not pay more than €70 million to sign Alvarez this summer. The club is said to be unwilling to go above this figure for the striker, whose numbers this season have not touched those from previous campaigns.

Julian Alvarez left Manchester City to join Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024 for an eye-watering €95 million. He scored 29 goals in 54 appearances in his debut campaign, but has managed only 17 strikes in 47 appearances for Los Colchoneros this season.

Barcelona consider the Argentina international as the perfect profile to replace Robert Lewandowski at the Nou Camp, with the Poland international now 37 years old. Atletico Madrid are reportedly prepared to listen to offers from €80 million for the 26-year-old, but the Spanish champions are not prepared to pay this much.

Hansi Flick’s side are keen to capture a new striker this summer, and the quality and versatility of Alvarez have put him at the top of their wishlist. Atletico Madrid have been keen to stress that the former Manchester City man is happy at the Metropolitano, but appear to have a price tag for him.

La Blaugrana plan to keep Lewandowski at the Nou Camp for another year, at least, even if they bring in Alvarez or another striker. They intend for the veteran striker to play a supporting role off the bench and add his quality to games, when needed.

Barcelona considering move for Spain U-21 star as Rashford doubts grow: Reports

Barcelona are reportedly weighing up a move to sign Spain U-21 international Jan Virgili this summer despite their agreement with Manchester United for Marcus Rashford. La Blaugrana are intent on strengthening their squad this summer, with cover for Raphinha on the left wing a key consideration.

El Chiringuito journalist Jose Alvarez has revealed (via Barca Universal) that Barcelona are eyeing Mallorca winger Virgili this summer. The 19-year-old left the club last summer, signing a five-year deal with Mallorca as he wanted regular first-team football. He has impressed since his move, providing six assists in 22 LaLiga appearances.

Hansi Flick’s side retain 50% of the rights of the teenage winger, who will cost significantly less than the €30 million they will have to pay for Rashford. They will weigh up the transfer at the end of the season, but Virgili features prominently in their thoughts.
