Recall issued for ground beef sold at Pierrefonds grocery store

Certain ground beef and pork products from the grocery store Intermarché Palumbo Pierrefonds may contain E. Coli, warns Quebec’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ).

The products in question list Feb. 24, 2026, as the packaging date, and were only sold at Intermarché Palumbo Pierrefonds. They were packaged in a polystyrene tray covered with plastic wrap in the refrigerated section.

The recalled products include milk-fed veal, extra lean ground beef, lean ground beef, minced beef, and minced pork of variable weights. MAPAQ says they are likely to contain Shiga toxin-producing E. coli bacteria.

“Anyone in possession of one of these products is advised not to consume it. They should return it to the store where it was purchased or discard it,” MAPAQ wrote in a press release.

The grocery store is voluntarily recalling the products in question, and have agreed with the Ministry and the City of Montreal’s Food Inspection Division to announce the warning as a precautionary measure.

Food contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli bacteria may not show any visible signs of spoilage or have a suspicious odour, but consuming it can cause serious, or fatal, illness. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain, blood in stool, nausea, vomiting and fever. They can appear two to 10 days after ingesting contaminated food.

“It is strongly recommended to seek medical help immediately if these symptoms appear. Most symptoms disappear within five to 10 days,” MAPAQ wrote.

Cooking meat properly destroys E. coli bacteria if cooked long enough and at high enough temperatures, MAPAQ notes.

No cases of illness associated with the recalled products have been reported to MAPAQ as of Thursday afternoon.
