The RCMP’s Federal Policing — Central Region (Ontario) division announced on Friday that a male Canada Border Services Agency officer who works at the bridge and a truck driver were both arrested and face charges related to conspiracy to import controlled drugs, trafficking a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The RCMP said the border guard was arrested back in January after a transport truck carrying millions of dollars worth of opium, cannabis products and tobacco was allowed into Canada.
The RCMP said it executed a search warrant on the border guard on March 6.
The truck driver appeared in court on March 13 and the border guard was scheduled to appear in court on March 18, the RCMP said.
