A professional cornhole player and quadruple amputee is facing murder charges for the fatal shooting of a man in Maryland.

Dayton James Webber, 27, and Bradrick Michael Wells, also 27, were arguing in Webber’s Tesla SUV on Sunday in La Plata, Md., when things escalated, according to a news release from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Webber allegedly shot and killed Wells, who was sitting in the passenger seat, then pulled over and asked the two people sitting in the back to help pull the victim out of the car.

They refused, jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene to call police, while Webber also took off, leaving Wells in the car.

All occupants of the car are known to each other, police said.

The victim was discovered about two hours later in a yard, where he was pronounced dead, while Webber was found at a hospital in Charlottesville, Va., where he was charged as a fugitive from justice.

He is now awaiting extradition to Charles County, Md., on first- and second-degree murder charges, as well as two counts of assault in the first degree and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, WTTG reported.

It is unclear how Webber, who has no limbs, was able to fire his weapon or ditch the body. There are online videos purportedly showing Webber using a handgun.

“It’s early in the investigation, but there’s no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved in the shooting and that he acted alone,” Charles County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Diane Richardson told the outlet.

However, Richardson told People that Webber has “great capabilities and abilities,” noting the cornhole player’s YouTube videos in which he shoots a “nine millimetre handgun.”

His Facebook page is also filled with photos of his hunting trophies, including many snaps of Webber with dead deer.

When did he lose his arms and legs?

Webber became a quadruple amputee when he was just 10 months old after a blood infection ultimately led to sepsis.

In a 2023 essay for Today.com, Webber detailed how he learned to drive with his disability.

“Teaching myself how to do various tasks — such as writing, picking things off the floor and even driving — helps me with cornhole, too,” he wrote.

That same year, Webber joined the American Cornhole League.

The league released a statement in response to Webber’s arrest.

“The ACL is aware of the reports regarding allegations involving Dayton Webber. This is an extremely serious matter and our thoughts are with all those impacted, including the family and loved ones of Bradrick Michael Wells.”

They added: “At this time, this remains an active legal situation. We respect the judicial process and will not comment on specific allegations or details while proceedings are ongoing.”
