Nationals sign veteran right-hander Littell to one-year deal

The Nationals aren’t done adding to their rebuilding roster. The franchise agreed to sign veteran right-handed pitcher Zach Littell to a one-year contract on Sunday, according to multiple reports.
The contract is pending a physical and includes a mutual option for the 2027 season.
Littell threw 186 2/3 innings last season across 32 total starts — both career highs — with the Cincinnati Reds and the Tampa Bay Rays. He posted a 3.81 ERA with a 10-8 record.
The 30-year-old projects to be a back-end starter in Washington’s still-to-be-determined rotation. The group is missing an ace after Washington traded All-Star pitcher MacKenzie Gore to the Texas Rangers this offseason. He’ll vie for a spot with fellow pitchers Miles Mikolas, Cade Cavalli, Josiah Gray, Brad Lord and Foster Griffin.
Littell, an 11th-round pick in the 2013 amateur draft, made his big league debut with Minnesota in 2018. He is 34-29 with a 3.88 ERA in 155 relief appearances and 79 starts, also playing for San Francisco and Boston.
The Nationals open the regular season on March 26 in Chicago against the Cubs.
