Penguins’ Malkin receives game misconduct for slashing Sabres’ Dahlin

Evgeni Malkin might be getting a call from the NHL Department of Player Safety for his actions during Thursday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres.

Malkin was given a game misconduct early in the second period of the contest after slashing Sabres defenceman Rasmus Dahlin in the neck area.

The star Penguins forward swung his stick at Dahlin after being pushed into the Sabres net and cross-checked by the Buffalo captain.

Along with the game misconduct, Malkin was handed a five-minute major.

Malkin, 39, entered Thursday’s action with 13 goals and 47 points in 45 games.

With Sidney Crosby out of the Pittsburgh lineup, the Penguins are set to rely on Malkin to carry the load with their captain.

They currently sit second in the Metropolitan Division with a 31-16-13 record and 75 points.
